...or at least gather together in one place.

I was just wondering if there are any NYC-area browncoats that would like to get together and discuss all things 'firefly' face-to-face-like (a la meetup.com). The next meetup is scheduled for Saturday, June 5th. Last month's meetup was canceled because not enough people signed up.

I am in the process of converting 2 of my co-workers, but I don't yet have any friends that are as crazy about the show as I am. I really enjoy the online FF community, but I would love to get all fanatical with you guys in person!

If you are not familiar with meetup.com, might I suggest you go to the website and check it out? Via this website, you can connect with people in your area who share your interests. It's free and very informal.

So...anyone up for it?

June 5... I think I'll be here then.
I'll keep you posted (no pun intended) and let you know status.

Whereabouts in NYC?

Well if I'm still in PA when June comes lumbering around might just drive over, haven't been to NYC in a while. I dunno how long I'll be up here, and I'm really missing Arizona but anything's possible.

Just no hovering over me like Godzilla Jefé or I'll...I'll...I'll do something dammit. Involving vintage Korean War jet fighters and high voltage power towers if necessary!

I haven't been on the board much lately because I am at a conference in Florida (the weather is here - wish you were beautiful). Poor me, huh?

Thanks for responding , guys. I would be thrilled to meet you both. I really enjoy reading both of your posts.

If you know anyone in the area, please encourage them to sign up at meetup.com.

Yeah!!

I am glad that there is some interest in a meetup in NYC. Only one person has signed up at meetup.com (that would be me, BTW). If you want to do this official-like, go to www.meetup.com, search for firefly meetups in NYC, and vote for a place to get together. Even if you are not absolutely sure that you can make it, it's okay to sign up. That's right my fellow commitment-phobes, there are no consequences to flaking on this little shindig at the last minute! If less than 5 people sign up, the meetup will be 'canceled', but that is just a technicality, IMO. We can still get together on that day anyway.

I guess I should go over to the OB and try to drum up interest there, huh? I have only gone over there a few times when fff.net posters have linked to that site. I just like this board so much!

I'll keep you guys posted.

Spread the word and keep flying!

There are several possible places to meet listed on the website - three in manhattan and one in brooklyn, I think. The one in brooklyn might be hard for me to get to, since I am ship-less in the city, but I really have no strong opinion about the manhattan sites. I live in Chelsea/Hell's Kitchen, but I can get anywhere on the island pretty easily. We could go somewhere else, too, if you have a good recommendation. Let me know what you think.

Grrr, the meetup thing isn't letting me sign up for something (or search for it) in another city! Technical assistance? When's the date/time?! My friend and I would still really really love to be there.

For some reason the gorram meetup thing won't let me change my home city.

I just tried to change my city and it worked by going to the 'voting for a venue' page. It shows the venues for your local meetup and on the left of the page it gives some facts about the meetups. Under "Where" (just made you say...) It says "Philly (I assume) and up to 600 other cities". Click on "other cities" and at the bottom of the page, it gives you the option of entering another city. If you haven't already, try that.

I also went to the home page by clicking on the meetup namebadge in the upper left corner. On the home page, it let me enter a new zip code. It then took me to my local page, but it gave me the option of switching to the new zip code. Maybe one of those will work for you.

The meetup is scheduled for Saturday, June 5th at 2:00pm. I'm looking forward to seeing you and your friend there.
