Now that I'm out of school for the summer I can actually spend some time doing something here other than just hanging out and reading. One thing I've been doing has been to introduce my friends to this loveable show of ours. This brings me to the point of this thread...

What's the weirdest, strangest, or funniest thing you've said or done to get someone to give Firefly a chance?

For me it was telling one of my friends that there was a hooker in every episode. That got his attenion real fast.

To the wife I just said that we're going to watch it. She trusts my taste in shows so she went along with it and thus became my first convert.

For the other people I just had to say that Joss did it and they were willing to watch. And, all of them loved it

I just found it interesting (weird?) that I just had to mention Joss' name and bingo bango, people would watch.

Hey I went to a Catholic High School too! For about 4 months...

No I ain't telling you why I was kicke...I mean decided to leave all on my own. But the way I get people to watch it is simple. I say:

Me: "Okay watch this show."

Them: "What if I don't wanna?"

Me: "Well I know you'll like it, really. And if you don't watch it I'll beat you to a pulp and make you watch it while you're in traction in the hospital recovering."

Them: "What if I turn it off?"

Me: "Can't, I'll steal the changer."

Them: "I

ing hate you, okay let's watch it."

At least that's what I'd do if anyone had reservations about watching it. Thankfully my friends are all shiny and if I say something's good they believe me.

I pick a show that I know the person watches and then tell them Firefly it just like that only better. Of course it really isn't like the Smurfs or CSI, but it makes them willing to sit down with me and the DVDs. They always like it. Always.

Well, so far I am having a not-speaking-to-my-best-friend-until-he-watches-the-damn-show contest, since Christmas. The idiot thinks he can just not buy it (or rent it! I gave him that option too!!) and that I will just forget about it. I told him to call me when he's seen it, and even offered to buy it if he didn't like it and he hasn't yet. And he likes stuff like this!! He thinks it will make him a Buffy/Angel fan, and I keep telling him it will not. (but if it does, so what?)

So, he has to live without my input into his life. Poor guy.

dang...I think Malicious wins.
so far the only thing I've done besides throw the occasional "Firefly party" (my house is the general hangout for all my friends so it works easy that way) is call in 4 favors to get 4 of my friends to watch it (they were my origional converts 1 week after I saw the first episode)
and another one of my friends...he and I have watched Alias together for all of season 3...he watched Alias from the beginning and when he showed me the show I watched all of seasons 1 and 2 (over 40 hours of shows) in 2 weeks straight...then all I had to do was tell him that I watched every episode of Firefly in 2 days (yes I did the call in sick thing the day after renting the first DVD) and he understood it HAD to be good

I have a friend in the UK who had never seen it and was not about to buy it, even though she is a big Buffy and Angel fan.... So I bought it for her. Here is a snip of the email she sent me afterward..

"It arrived!!! And I think it is fantastic!!!!!!!!!! I watched Serenity, I was a little "I don't know about this ...." in the beginning with the war fighting, I like physical contact fighting so I was a bit unsure, but then as the characters all started coming together, I thought that this was brilliant. I really love the combination, I am just so hooked, what have you done to me :-) Thank you so much for sending it to me, I probably would never have bought it myself and I would be missing out on so much ....
