There are far too many bad endings I can think of, mainly cuz I'm a pessimist. Here are my top two for now...

1. Mal stands over Jayne's dead body and says "Yep." (beat) "That was an interesting day...."

2. The End

You know, that actually ain't half bad as a plot device... New mercenary needed of course (Jayne's twin brother, Suzy, perhaps), but I'd love to see the story of how Jayne got on the wrong side of Mal and then lost the fight.

---------------------------------------
"Damn it Mal... I forgot my line!"

Jayne' got a brother named Suzy!!

Oh, bugger! Now I have to wait for someone to wake up!

And thank you. There are three SW films and only three...the first, second and third one. Prequel episodes? I don't know anything about any prequel episodes. They don't exist!! LALALALALALALA

CHRONOS

The worst ending I can imagine...

The movie is everything we hoped for, it's epic, revealing, action packed, romances go the way we want, pasts are revealed (Mal, Inara, Book), the jokes bring tears to our eyes... Basicaly our wildest and most secret dream come true. The movie lasts for 3+ hours and at the end there's the fade to black and the sign that says: "for Joss, 1964-2004".

Take me out to the black, tell them I ain't coming back

The worst possible ending--

The last scene passes before us, and the credits roll.

Of course, the Bruckheimer thing really did send chills down my spine.

But nothing was scarier than Chronos picture of a dedication to Joss. That really might have me hiding under my bed tonight. *shivers for real*

Actually, I think the worst possible ending for the movie would be to wrap up all the loose ends from the show. After all, I think we all hope that the movie doesn't end this story....I know I'm hoping for more movies or a return to TV. (I'd actually love to see the show go to cable but that's a discussion for another thread.) So the movie can't reveal all the mysteries or wrap up all the plot lines.

So here are some things I would *not* like to see happen by the end of the movie:

-- River's full potential revealed. I'm sure the movie will focus on her a lot and that's fine, but I still think that the ongoing suspense of what she is *really* capable of after all the experimentation is too sweet to let go of(remember her telling Kaylee no power in the 'verse could stop her? -- what exactly does that mean?)

-- Jayne's final betrayal (or redemption for that matter). This is another on-going plot line that it would be a shame to derail. I mean, you get the feeling that if the show hadn't been cancelled that Jayne was going to find his conscience at some point, but then again, it could go the other way too and he could be the entire crew's undoing. Once you send him too far in either direction, good or bad, the character loses that suspense that makes him one of my favorite parts of the show. Think about it -- would it be as interesting if you really knew where everything stood with Jayne?

-- Too many romances. This is another thing I would rather see drag out *beyond* the movie. If they pair off Mal & Inara and Simon & Kaylee in the movie (don't think the Jayne & River pairing will make it outside the fan web sites ), then any future movies or TV will lose all that tension.

I know that they have to touch on all of these things in the movie because the romance, the Jayne factor, and River's state of mind are all such integral plot lines. But I guess I just worry that if *everything* is wrapped up in the movie that it will just feel like the whole story is over. And that, to me, would be the worst thing of all.

Off my soap box now....sorry for the small essay.

Morbid and creepifyin' I got no problem with, long as she does it quiet-like.

Ok, see if this will turn your stomach:

Serenity is a phenomenal film that brings in new fans as well as being the kind of thing the hard-core fans can point to and say "see, THIS is why i watch this stuff all the time!" some loose ends are wrapped up but others are left to tickle our brains and a few new threats pop up. the movie makes millions and a trilogy is announced. Joss gets inspired by a piece of paper he found in a fortune cookie and streaches this pseudo-intellectual bunk into a two hour script. after looking at the script he shuffles the pages into random order, divides the script into two equal piles and fills in the blank spaces between never-ending dialogue about the nature of reality and painful exposition with slow motion fight scenes and, for some reason, a musical number...

oh wait, that was Matrix. my bad

i'm still nervous though

LOL -- Hoagie, that's hysterical.

I don't worry as much about what happened to the Matrix happening with Serenity. I think I have more faith in Joss's writing abilities...and his attachment to the characters he created.

O pleass don't even say that. I see a healthy, long and full life for Mr. Whedon. Yes I do!! One with lots of writing and directing and producing in it. Projects keep coming and each is shinier than the next. Lots of ways to tell FF's story, of course.

Hmmm....that could be a new thread...what could outshine FF?

No, no, no, no, no.

You can't kill off Jayne. The question of his loyalty to Mal is one of the suspenseful plot lines, and the character is just too integrated into the show considering he's been there since they picked up River and Simon. (What are they going to do, kill Jayne and then hire on another soldier-for-hire knowing they have fugitives on board?)

Besides, you can't just replace Jayne with another mercenary. He has too much character. And no, I don't mean character as in moral fiber. In fact, I think that if I'm 100% honest, I'd have to say that by "character" I mean that he can just walk into a room and it's one of the hottest moments in TV history. Plus, he's really, really funny.

I think River's comment of 'No power in the 'verse can stop me', is just a direct quote of Kaylee earlier in the episode when she takes her apple back from River.
What I want to see is some back-up of River's threat to Jayne: 'I can kill you with my mind.' BUT no gorram Jedi stuff. Say it makes her go catatonic for an hour or something...
Edit- where's my avatar to?

Luckily, that won't happen. Joss wrote a wrapping up script where main characters died and everything was resolved, but then scrapped it and went for an open script leading into a new TV series.

Of course, I could be wrong. And even if Joss did wrap everything up, he'd probably do it in a superb, mind-blowingly awesome way.

That rumor is not true. Fillion, and I think other cast members have said a TV series revival is not in the cards. And Joss also responded in his EW weekly interview:

Quote:

EW:About Serenity: There were rumors you were asked to make some changes to your screenplay to accommodate Universal's vision for franchising. True?

JW: Absolute nonsense. You're seeing alot of movies that are built to be a springboard for a franchise. Like Underworld. Well, I'm saying maybe you should take a long hard look at your f---ing movie before you worry about your franchise. Obviously, Universal does see this as a potential franchise-springboard marketing vehicle. But none of that matters unless I make a movie that not only people who loved Firefly will respect, but people who never heard of it can walk in and have a wonderful time.

Why is everyone here so gungho about reviving the series? Accept that it's over. I think the worst possible ending would be for it to have no ending. Open-ended? Fuck that. I won't stuff payed off. Because a TV series revival ain't gonna happen.

Whilst, yes, it is unlikely seeing as how Universal hold the rights to Firefly stuff for something like 5 years after the film, if Serenity is a success then a further two films are on the cards. So sayeth Joss, at least.

Settle down Joe. Your hard-bitten, voice of reason crap has come and gone from this board many times, most of the time telling us how silly we were to hope for more Firefly. 'Just get over it' they'd say, 'accept it'. Yeah, whatever.

If we'd listened to that advice there's a very good chance it would be over, no movie, nothing. So, we'll keep hoping for a series, we'll keep asking that the story remain open-ended, and you'll just have to accept that. Dong Ma?

And I agree that the worst ending would be all the loose ends wrapped up. I want as much Firefly as possible. Hopefully 7 good seasons after all three movies. That'd be nice.

So you would prefer that the movie "Serenity" function just like the pilot "Serenity"? More questions, and no answers? I can't concieve of a person who would want that. That is not what a movie should be. Joss promised "one giant pay-off" at an LA convention last december, and that's what I'm wanting and expecting.

A trilogy of movies would be a dream come true. Thing is, after that there would be nowhere for a tv series to go. Perhaps a spin-off, but there's no way we're going to see the return of "Firefly" as we knew it.

Ah, I don't know about that. Joss did seven seasons of Buffy, five seasons of Angel whilst generally keeping a high calibre of story throughout. Yes, I know that a trilogy of films isn't the same as a couple of series of a TV program, but the fact remains is that Joss can create an awful lot of ideas, storylines etc. for a series. Therefore, why not with a continuation of Firefly after the films?

heh. that would be like Nickelodeon thanking Invader Zim fans for being a constant pain in their ass. they have basically flung the IZ DVDs out in a "take the stuff and stop bothering me" manner.

Fox would never survive. if they piss of Joss Whedon fans like that. generally we are smart, cynical, and worst of all, creative. the last one is death for the ones who put out all the freakin reality shows and "when animals attack the world's scariest police chases caught on tape 5".

now ending Serenity like they ended the X-Files film (ie. bulid-up, build-up, build-up, build-up, watch Fox) would suck so much it would both suck and blow
