Last week the poll at UNR was taking over an hour for early voting. The parking outside has a limit of 30 minutes and people we getting ticketed even as they were putting money in the meter.

ouch. Luckily I didn't have to drive. I looked up my polling place and it was like literally right next door to my apartments. I just slammed the alarm clock threw on jeans and a t-shirt and walked over to stand in line for an hour or so. Fun. It almost started raining a couple times too. Luckily it just got to the sprinkling point and never started pouring.

Thing is as annoying as it was to stand in line like that I don't get the people who were being rude to the volunteers. At least I assume they're volunteers and don't get paid to man the polling stations. People were yelling stuff like "well you should have tested these things earlier" and "not very reassuring". Dude I'm sure they're trying to get stuff fixed. Yelling at them isn't helping.

Check this out. It was sent to me by one of my oldest friends who lives in Iowa. I'd take it halfwise as it is secondhand news to me, but I rarely let myself get this close to such things.

message:

I live in Iowa. I have a disabled 26 yr old son. I have never registered him to vote because 1. He is not mentally capable and 2. He couldn't read a ballot. He lives in a group home with others like him. They the homes staff registered my son to vote. When I found out I told them that he is NOT allowed to vote. I find out today they took him to vote and a home staff member told him who to vote for (Obama) and was actually the person who help him vote. I am livid. They tell me it is his right and the law. They knew I would probably get him on election day so they took him to vote early. I have already contacted a lawyer and the media will get back with me. I am shaking so bad right now. The staff used my son and others for political gains. Sorry I just needed to vent.I am off now to try and get someone's attention on this matter

I assure you this is true. My friend is very close to this family and knows the state of the young man. Pretty messed up.

There's a zombie invasion in WoW, but I haven't heard of any others. I've been watching CNN all day, you would think they'd mention it. Unless Wolf Blitzer actually is a zombie, hmmm...

So I got up and voted early, walked the half mile or so over there and back, because parking was going to be gross. Waited for about a half an hour, got rained on while walking back (omg! rain in southern California during day light hours! the world is ending!), then drove hubby to work because apparently there's going to be some drinking there today lol. Now I'm all sleepy.

First exit polls in half an hour, then the first polls close in an hour and a half. Hopefully we'll be able to get some sort of indication on how things are looking before tomorrow morning. It'll take a lot longer to hear about the Propositions here in California though. I'm a total election junky, but I am so looking forward to not having to look at all the ads and crap anymore.

Taste the rainbow bitchez!!!

Second, i would suck during a zombie situation. I can't run long distance, I get hungry easy, I care too much for other people, and I'm only a fair shot.

Tootsie rolls suck the brown parts, Starburst are really good after the Skittles dry up, and Zack And Miri Make A Porno was far too funny for this day and age.

END just found left over Halloween candy rant.

I don't know how the heck they project these results so quickly. Looking back now they projected stuff that ended up with like a 2% difference between the candidates and they were projecting them with like 12% returns. Drives me nuts. They even projected michigan for obama when mccain was in the lead for the results they had at the time. wtf is that about? They were right of course but still. You think there's a reason people don't think their votes matter? Maybe because they don't even need to count them before they call the race?

I guess I'm glad I didn't have to stay up late watching the boring political analysts argue, but the projections will always drive me crazy.

side note: my brother went to the obama rally in chicago. Didn't see him on tv or anything but sorta interesting that he was there. Not something I'd do, but he always has to do what the cool kids are doing.

I just gotta say south park is crazy. I'm impressed that they got obama's acceptance speech in their episode the very next day, but they of course had to go over the top with the episode too. The whole focus of the episode was that obama, mccain and palin were really like ocean's eleven. They were all in it together to steal some diamond necklace through a secret presidential escape tunnel in the white house. Anyway one part of it was that obama's grandma's death was faked so she could pull off one part of the heist. Not cool.

The rest was funny though.

Ok Zeek in answer to your question for me it symbolizes becomeing a part of his family. We are a family together and taking his name represents that. Plus legally less confusing when it comes to registration of kids at school and such.

Plus it makes me feel connected :)

The only choice I'm against is hyphenated names. What happens to the kids? Do they get the hyphenated name too? Then if they marry someone else with a hyphenated name are they going to end up with 4 names all jammed together? I don't see the point of that. I'm an all or nothing type of guy I guess.

I can relate to the hyphenated name after marriage. Too many professionals have their name established and need to be recognized as the person they were before marriage. My favorite is Dr. Susan Doctor. An incredible woman, caling her Dr. Doctor was just the norm for many years. After she got married she went with the hyphen and people still know who you are talking about. Of course I don't think the change is required, but the person stuck with the name makes the ultimate call. Plus it's cute. Still not used to calling her Mrs. Allen.
