Oh yeah. A few decades ago the mayor of Chicago was hustled out of office (well voted out at the next election) after a particularly nasty blizzard followed by a less than stellar snow removal. Since then every city, village, town, and township in the five county region lays the salt on thick and fast. Nobody wants to lose their job.

nice, they should do that where i go to school. a foot of snow on the ground (the fluffy stuff, so it was IMPOSSIBLE to drive in) in a hilly area of town, a full hour after the snow started to fall and the *MAIN roads* still hadn't been cleared even once. no plow trucks to be seen. that was a night of many cars getting stuck on the road. >< that was fun.

Were in for some more snow. We tend to get it in large clumps and then it warms up and melts.

We lost our last mayor because he could not keep it in his pants. It was like Clinton disorder spread across the country.

Some people complain when they see salt trucks just parked on the side roads; waiting for the storm to hit. But they stop complaining when we get 10 inches of heavy wet stuff.

Because apparently that's the most important thing about running a government. Blow the budget on no bid contracts to cronies? A-ok. Have an orgasm? What were you thinking???

The woman he had an affair with turned around and claimed harassment. She never proved it. how these guys let the power of there office get to their heads and then there is no room for anything else.

I forget if it was the county official or the city but the gave themselves inflated pensions. Needles to say when this got out they were voted out the next election. I wonder if politics has a requirement for greed and stupidity sometimes.

oh come on if they're a politician they are, by basic definition, power hungry, self absorbed, lying, and corrupt...

Snow removal in Utah is a precision thing and with the potential for 8 -12 inches of snow in a few hours it's gotten to the point where everyone expects to have to 4wd it:)

Well the brain pan is just the inside of the base of the skull. Every politician needs a skull if for no other reason than having a place to put their hair. A toupee right on top of the C1 vertebra doesn't lend itself to picturesque campaign ads. There's no need for anything in particular to rest within the brain pan though it's true.

I just saw the news. They released the Nixon tapes from his White House years. That man was insane. He was talking to someone on the phone and he repeated three times, "The press is the enemy." You can not tell me Nixon was living in the same world as the rest of us. It seems strange we start talking about politicians and this comes up. Of course our wonderful public officials tend to keep the news media busy, so there would have been some politician in the news if not Nixon.

Got home before the traffic got to heavy. When it snows some people decide to do one of two things. Go 20 MPH and snarl a highway lane or 80 MPH and change lanes every 5 seconds. The rest of us just hope the two don't meet.

Snow was light. Just enough to make the roads slippery. So happy to be home and out of it.

oooh yes, the fun wet snow thats impossible to clear even when plowed, so you have to wait for the salt to take effect to give you *some* sort of traction. at least thats how it happens round here XD Those are the days i stay inside.

the other thing we get a lot of around here is the ice-snow effect. road ices, snow lands on top. MASSIVE fun when ur trying to turn a corner XD

It just hits me when people talk about how long ago the first Indiana Jones movie was and here I am having seen Shane with Alan Ladd. A lot of years between those two films. But I would not trade it. I saw the original Star Trek and Twilight Zone series. Some great science fiction Firefly had to live up to and it did that and more.

You were busy trying to get yourself lit on fire. It happens.

A note about snow

When it snows, the roads get salted and the snow melts. Then, at night, the melty snow turns to ice. Then, in the morning, there's ice instead of snow, which means more salt, and also nasty chemicals. But they salt early in the morning, and the temperature stays low the whole day, so there's ice on the road again back pretty quick. Their actions are futile.
