Okay, this may have been done before, but since I'm new here I'm curious . . .

What is your favorite episode?

My episode of the moment is "Out of Gas". What a fantastic way to tell the backstory of some of the characters. Not only that, but to show the comeraderie and love the crew has for each other . . . heck, even Jayne. The end when Mal asks if they'll all be there when he wakes up . . . awesome and very, very moving.

Zoe: "Get it running again."
Mal: "Yeah"
Zoe: "So not running now"
Mal: "Not so much"

I think my favorite episode is "Out of Gas" too, but I really like watching "Our Mrs. Reynolds," and "Trash." I love the character of YoSaffBridge and as well as looking at Christina Hendricks.

ya know, as much as I love "out of gas," I think my favorite is either Ariel or War Stories

I am partial, ATM, to "Heart of gold."

**SPOILER ALERT to those that have not seen this episode**

IMHO it has one of th most telling scenes of the series.

The scene where Inara Tells Mal that she was glad he was with Nandi, and then goes off by herself and cries is absolutley heartbreaking. If you ever doubted how she felt about Mal, you didn't after that scene.

Serenity, the Big Damn Pilot, is the *B*E*S*T*.

Shindig, OMR and Heart of Gold next, a nose ahead of the rest.

Good choice, OoG. It's among my favs, but I have to go with the Pilot - Serenity Parts 1 & 2.

We get so much in this ep. One special moment for me that said a lot about Jayne's character is when he's kneeling by the infirmary window while Simon is attending to Kaylee's stomach wound.

Wash's cool flying while being chased by Reavers,
Book's "confession" to Inara in her shuttle, Simon's speech about his sister and Kaylee's "that's my girl" after escaping the Reavers. All special moments.

But here are a few more eps that are close seconds:

OMR, Jaynestown, Ariel, War Stories and Bushwhacked.

Thanks for posting. BTW Welcome aboard.

Favorite episode? Hmmm...tough, because there are SO many to choose from. I guess it boils down to the episode I most often put in the DVD player when I need a Firefly fix, and that would be Our Mrs. Reynolds.

Important people don't do field work.

For a long time, Shindig was my favorite. I can't explain why it isn't anymore, but, as I was watching the show, I would ask myself "What episode would I show to someone new to get them to watch?" The obvious answer, of course, is Serenity, or maybe The Train Job (Hey, worked on me).

Now, I usually stick with Ariel. Everyone to their strengths (except, of course, Book) in that one. Hands of Blue...more River craziness than usual; very, very competent Simon; Jayne actually betrays everyone; Mal gets to show off who has the most foresight..there are more and more examples there. I think this should be THE shining example of what Firefly was all about. It was like a classic heist movie, and after seeing it, I was hoping I'd get to see more of this cast behaving in such a manner.

Having said all that...My favorite individual scene is from Serenity. When Mal and Simon are facing off over the freshly injured Kaylee. Some of the finest acting in the show, I thought.

So...two answers for the price of one! YAY!

Kaylee: "What's so damn important about being proper? It don't mean nothing out here in the black."
Simon: "It means more out here. It's all I have..."

Out of Gas I think is the best written, because it is HARD to do a tv episode with three seperate timelines and still have it come out smooth, flowing, and making sense. And there is SO much feeling in it, all the intensity and despair of a life-or-death situation where it seems death is the most likely outcome.

Because of where I live, The Train Job and Jaynestown are generally what I try to use when I'm converting people, because I never know if I'm going to offend someone's religious sensibilities with any racier episodes. Jaynestown is the most effective at getting a person's interest, I've found, because it is quite frankly Hi-LARIOUS. Usually people I know don't want to commit to watching the pilot because of it's length, so that's where the Train Job comes in, it has a pretty good character/story summary and ship tour, and introduces the crime/adventure aspect that frames the show.

My favourite episode? That's a much tougher question, and one I'm not sure I have the answer for.

I have a soft spot for Our Mrs. Reynolds, because I think the first 15 minutes of it are about the funniest quarter hour that's ever been aired on television. And then there's the insane plot twist.

But hell, every episode has SOMETHING worthwhile, even the less popular ones. Generally, when I watch Firefly, I try to watch them as a marathon.
