Dollhouse- Cool but a little on the choppy side. Already like watching Train Job before getting to watch the Serenity pilot first. Seems IF they show the pilot at all it will be better than the first episode we get to watch. Things like that turn off the casual watcher from the get-go. Seems we've run into this issue before...

As for the premise, I've seen this in a few other places before. My favorite was Gunslinger Girl. The Dollhouse members aren't exactly robots, but they ain't far from either. Time will tell...

We've been watching Leverage in TNT and it has been a while since I've like a show to this degree (since Vengeance Unlimited in fact). The episode we recorded featured the line, "What smells like crank and screams like a girl?", uttered by one of the heroes before he pummels three hostage taking speed freaks by hand. Not particularly. Just had lots of time to do stuff I wanted to. Watched Dollhouse obviously. Played a bunch of videogames. Played some poker and ended up ahead (which is always nice). Started catching up on the Angel comics. It started out slow but I'm starting to get sucked in.

Morning all:)

So here's a ponder... how long do you keep helping someone who is obviously resistant. It's my job to assist teachers in developing skills to deal with their classes, but I am currently dealing with 2 people who respond to my instructions with maybe, I'll think about it, and I'm not sure.... now the thing is they are both in serious trouble with their principals and if they don't do what I say and get functional at their jobs, they will be fired( they both are aware of this)....and yet they still seem clueless or like they think it's unfair they have to meet the basic requirements of their job description..... so how long should I try to help them???

I would think you should help until they get fired. How long will they really last if they don't shape up? Especially if this is your job. I don't think you should stop doing your job just because you don't think it's going anywhere. Do you need to cover your ass in case they do get fired? Will it reflect poorly on you?

Now for my weird question. So, there's a girl I've had a crush on but she's never lived anywhere near me. I've mentioned her before. I don't think I've seen her in like a year and a half. Anyway I got on an email with a long list of other people asking for updated contact info like my address. The friend I know her through thinks it's some automated thing cause she got the same message verbatim sent to her email and facebook. So, do I ignore the note and look like a jerk if she really does need my info for something or do I respond and look weird for sending my contact info to someone I'm a slight acquaintance with?

Are you facing depression issues? I know that I am fighting depression and one of my symptoms is that I sleep too much and can not get the energy to face the day.

As far as the country making the mistake by not teaching its children to cook, raise a garden, and start a fire, shouldn't that be a parent's responsibility?

Actually I might not be sleeping enough. It just feels like I miss a bunch when I sleep.

Though I do usually get a bit depressed this time of year.

I think she may have something in that quote. The state of the country hasn't really been conducive to basic living skills for a while. All the political correctness and pussy posturing has kind of left more kids without those things. It is more important to work a microwave and open a packged food than to get the food from its actual source. I know a ton of kids who can do those things. But it seems their numbers have dropped significantly over time. Sucks. Not all kids cook meth, grow pot, or burn down peoples homes for fun and/or profit.

Dunno if you've thought of it this way (paradigm shift): Help them as long as possible, but look/treat them as if they're your students (only older). I have a feeling that they're feeling overwhelmed and drowning with everything they have to do. Plus, at this point in the game (middle of the year), I'm pretty sure that they feel like some of their students -- failing; with no hope; and only criticisms coming in about how they're not good enough, smart enough, doing things fast enough, etc. (not that you're doing that, I'm looking at it from their point of view).
I know it sounds kinda stupid, but have you told them what they're doing right along with what they need to improve? Maybe work at things from that angle?

HUGS Neko thanks and I wish I could be confident, but I have been working with them for months. One is still calling students " maggots' refusing to give them work on their level and verbally abusing them and other staff. The other has decided it's play time and lets them play games, watch tv and rough house and despite months and months with them I cannot get them to let me help ( I offered to set up classes, review files so they don't have to, do lesson plans for them, provide them curriculum, train them on one of any 5 behavior plans... their choice, etc) I can't get them to accept that they have to have lesson plans, they have to do the legally required accommodations, they need to have some kind of rules and discipline, and they have to be polite and positive with kids... I'm just not sure how much more I can do. And yes I provide them with 3 positive comments for every 1 suggestion fro improvement and I carefully word it to be neutral ...for example. It's important to have a science assignment that they can read. Here are 3 different books you can use to do that. It's great that you want them to know all this material, but it is over their reading level. I am sure they will be more successful using one of the textbooks I gave you.

Oh and one mroe thing... they aren't new teachers. They have held teaching jobs before ( one has been fired in 5 states .... the other was in one position then transferred to an easier job, then transferred to an even easier job... not that any teaching job is ever easy, but still as simple as we can make it)

I feel for you, though. I mean, here you are wanting to help. And, really, they're not worth helping. (And I really hate that I just wrote that.)

Unless you think you can really *reach* these people (and maybe you can), I would suggest documenting everything you do to help them and documenting all of the horrible things they say and do with their students and other faculty.

Really, though, getting these people to do lesson plans (or whatever required tasks) does not address what seems to be the core of their problems: their contempt for others. If you can help them get over that, then the rest of it becomes easy. But, then, that's probably not what you signed up for.

So, as an incentive to resign my lease my apartment complex offers one free carpet cleaning. I resigned and the cleaning is scheduled for this morning. I'm going to have to lock the kitty in the bathroom and since I know she won't like it I'm working from home. I've got the bathroom set up with my computer chair, a dinner table chair (so I can put my feet up), cat food dispenser, cat water dish, cat litter box, cat bed, my laptop and it's cord running across the sink. If the cleaners don't laugh at this ridiculousness I'll be amazed.

Not moving. I signed a new 12 month lease so they're washing the carpet as an incentive to keep me here. Last time I resigned they put in a ceiling fan (that I've used maybe twice).

I actually got to choose from a list of like 3 things. Carpet cleaning, vertical blinds by the patio doors (I already put some up on my own), or a maid service visit. I'd just feel bad for the maid service. I don't know what they'd do with all the clutter all over the place. Either they'd clean around it (what's the point of that) or they'd have to throw it all in a pile or something. I don't really like either option there. So, carpets it is...if they ever show up.

OK I know it's only February but I think it's time to call it. Do over on 2009! This year is one big pile of suck and the outlook is not good.

The cleaners still have not showed up. The first time I called the office they said they were a couple hours behind. Fine my cleaning was supposed to be for the morning but what do I care if it's early afternoon. Um...it's 4:45 and nothing. Not even a call from the office with an update. They didn't answer the phone when I called back. I'll walk over there before they close if I don't get anything out of them. Plus they left a little love note on my door this afternoon complaining about my satellite dish AGAIN! I cleared this with them twice already. First time they left a note like this and again before I signed my new lease. Both times they said it was not a problem and they wouldn't bother me again. Grrrrr!

I'm all for it.

So, here's a ponder for you guys. My brother and I are trying to think through what to do about a trip my Dad has his heart set on. He really wants us to fly out to New York and then drive to Washington DC to meet his relatives out there. I'm 28 and my brother is 31. If we haven't met these people by now how much do you think we care about them? That's right, zip. Yet he really wants us to go because his aunt somethingorother is like 91 and on death's door and he wants us to meet her at least once. She's got alzheimer's already and I can't imagine either of us will get much out of this meeting. So, really we're trying to figure out how to make this the least painful experience. We don't want to spend a ton of money or a ton of vacation on this cause we don't care about it. We also don't want to set a precedent that we're ever going on trips like this again. We are not going to this lady's funeral and we're not going to random people's weddings or anything like that. If we do this it's a one time shot. Is there any good way to break that to my Dad?

Well the problem there is my Dad is pretty much crazy. He's not my favorite person ever. My parents got divorced 21 years ago and he's still bitter about it and blames my mom for a ton of the problems in his life. The rest he blames on the government and his brother. He's a gianormous loser and really me and my brother are about the only bright spots in his life. My older brother is more sympathetic toward him than I am. If I told my Dad that I really don't care about his side of the family he'd get pretty upset and emotional and then my brother would be upset with me. I'd rather have a decent relationship with my brother so I'm trying to play nice.

I hate playing nice when it means my time and money are going to get blown on stuff I don't want to do.

Anyway that's why I'm trying to find the best way to play nice and reduce the time and money investment. No easy task huh?

Hmm actually I'd go the other route and say would it really kill you to meet people that you may not have had connection with before , but maybe meeting them will help you better understand your dad. Seriously it won't kill you to spend a few days getting to know someone if it makes your dad that happy and is that important to you. Maybe you'll find that you do connect with one. If not hey you got to see DC and made your dad really happy. I can see you really don't seem to enjoy your dad and I am sure he's got major problems, but at least he stayed around and tried to be part of your life:) You can always decline later invitations but at least you gave it a shot. You can even tell your dad that. You went you tried and it wasn't for you

Nah really not excited. The first episode really hasn't stuck with me at all. I'm not on the edge of my seat. I'm just bleh.

It's not like when Buffy premiered that one time and I rushed through a math exam to make it home to see it. I rushed so fast I got a problem down to a simple 2x + 2 = y where x was 1 and I answered 3.

I got 2+2 wrong for Buffy. lol I did not do well on that exam.
