WTF just read that Family guy was brought back to the air after selling 2.2 million copies....
HEY Firefly definitely had that many copies sold....

You think you know--what's to come, what you are. You haven't even begun.

They hate us

Also, Family guy is cheaper to make. But mostly they hate us.

I'm gonna go with "cheaper to make".

I'm not sure they hate us. We spend money on their stuff. They definitely DO NOT hate money. It may be the only thing they DON'T hate!

*Channels Stewie* How the hell can you hate Family Guy?

And also, I believe Family Guy sold that many the week it was released.

also keep in mind that some of "them" actually like "Firefly" they just don't beleive they can sell it. Family guy is a seller because a lot of children have gotten into it....not the market it was originally aimed at but kids love it, and because it's a cartoon unknowledgeable parents allow them to watch it.

I'm sure that selling the movie rights to Universal didn't help, and strongly suspect that if the DVD sales from the BDM *and* the series had gone into the same pot we'd have more Firefly in one medium or the other. (Judging by the Amazon ratings when the BDM was released, the BDM sold a metric shedload of Firefly box-sets).

Because it is childish (not just sophomoric, but adolescent) humor that is rarely actually funny? I don't know, just a thought.

You're right, of course - but did you ever consider that that is its appeal?

they take it to an unnecessary level though, i just find it offensive. there are some small clips that are funny, i will admit to that, but i cannot sit through an entire episode, or even half an episode. its too *shudders*

I'm with Freelance and Eggordon. I really can see no humor in the show. It touts itself as another Simpson's but at least there was maturity in the humor of that show (well, the older Simpson's, things have gone downhill fast) I see Family Guy as toilet humor, like Rosanne or Married with children. I just cannot find the funny, and Peter Griffin is NOT the next Homer Simpson. I still find it hard to believe this got another season when really good tv (Firefly) was allowed to burn. It's sad.

I found the earlier seasons much better...I think they dumbed it down and made it more offensive to reach a wider market.

Well then this should make you feel better. My DVD collection includes:

Family Guy
Aqua Teen Hunger Force
Sealab 2021
Drawn Together
It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia

I likes me some low brow humor.

I love "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" does anyone here watch "Carpoolers"? or Robot Chicken? also I don't think you can say people are pretentious for not appreciating Family Guy. I sincerely did like the first seasons and sincerely don't find most of the newer installments very amusing. but i do sincerely know many prebubescent children who love it.

I didn't say they were pretentious for not appreciating it, they're pretentious for comments like these:

When I hear stuff like this I always get the mental image of a 12 year old kid telling his younger brother that he's too mature to play with toys now.

And I love Robot Chicken. I'm also a fan of The Boondocks, and I've been known to enjoy ATHF a bit.

STORYMARK

Aside from the DVD sales, it also became one of, if not the highest rated shows on Cartoon Network when they started airing it, just before the DVDs hit.

I find it occasionally funny, but I agree it's incredibly adolecent in it's humor. A meager attempt at a story, with a couple dozen random pop-culture refrences thrown in, stir, repeat ad nauseum.

.......it's lost some, if not all, of it's edge.

I was seriously not being pretentious Most of the people I know who enjoy family guy are literally aged 8-12. I respect these people on a lot of levels, and do not assume that because of their age they are less intuitive or intelligent in fact often times they put us oldies to shame.( okay I'm only 40 so I'm not that old really but according to some of my younger friends I am a relic.) I just don't enjoy Family Guy anymore and they do.
