Though to answer the question, I would definitly prefer another Serenity.

Whedonesque posted it, and most of those Serenity votes came when that happened. The more folks become aware of it, the more votes there will be, I suppose. Personally, my opinion of Universal is that they blame the Fans for Serenity's poor box office, and they feel "Burned". They are afraid to make a S2 because the Sereniverse makes money SLOWLY, and mainly through DVD sales. Most Studios are about the quick profit. You would think that, in hard economic times, they would look for reliable income, steady income. Such, evidently, is not the case. If I live to be a hundred, I will never understand the Corporate Mind.

While the director of CoR had big plans for an epic third part to the "legend" of Riddick, I don't know that it'd be very interesting.

As far as Universal not being happy with the Box office, often they don't make the money from the Box office take, it's from the DVD sales, from what I hear; much of the box office goes to paying actors and so on. Besides, the DVD sales for Serenity must have been pretty good, they released the CE right? Maybe I'm talking gibberish :) Speaking of polls, GO VOTE HERE! http://www.tvtally.com/shows/overalltop.php?top=25 We're gaining on Jericho!
Quote:Originally posted by FillyGirl: Tuff choice, but "Serenity 2" please. I love Riddick, I have the DVD's,...IMHO 'Chronicles'was weak, and I thought the story was done with that one. I don't know the Riddick world but I think "Serenity" has many more stories than Riddick.

Quote:Originally posted by FreeLancerTex: there was always supposed to be a Riddick 3, because dave twohy set out to make a trilogy before pitch black was even made, and after the cliffhanger in riddick 2, i'd really like to see how that chronicle is resolved. as for a second serenity, i was happy with the way the first one turned out, and i honestly think a second one would ruin that. it was one of those films where you watch it and you're like, 'wow, that was awesome. just as is.' and if they make another i really feel it would detract from that.

Quote:i never said i didn't want more, i just don't think a second film would be a good idea. Miniseries, absolutely, resurrection of the original series, fuck yes, but i'm just not sure about the film venue. That, and Riddick needs to be concluded. it's way too fuckin long overdue. At least with Serenity we had some closure lol.

Quote:Originally posted by Storymark: The problem with all the talk of a cheaper DTV movie or mini-series is - the upfront costs are essentially the same. Sets would still need to be built, actors have to be paid, ect. Unless we want a Serenity built from cardboard, those are going to be hurdles either way. They'd save money in marketing, and probably no-name supporting characters, but otherwise, the costs would be similar.

Near as I can tell, Serenity made more $ in DVD sales than box office returns. 'sides Sci-Fi must have some extra cash lying around since BSG is mostly over ;)

Back when Serenity came out, the average marketing and distribution cost was around $40 mil for a Hollywood movie (oddly, folks around here were after my head for pointing this out at the time). Neither were factored into the $30 million budget for Serenity, so you're still looking at a sizeable upfront cost. And SyFy is more than likely putting their BSG money into the spin-off, so it's claimed. "I thoroughly disapprove of duels. If a man should challenge me, I would take him kindly and forgivingly by the hand and lead him to a quiet place and kill him."
