Chuck stars lead 400 fans to Subway to save show
Chuck, News April 26th, 2009
Chuck stars Zachary Levi and Adam Baldwin came up with a unique way to help the fortunes of their on-the-bubble show by taking a fan's suggestion and leading 400 convention goers to a Birmingham Subway outlet to show their leading advertiser that Chuck deserves to survive.

Falling ratings have threatened to cancel the show, which features a sales assistant whose brain is accidentally loaded with government secrets, but fan Wendy Farrington had the unique idea of getting fans to follow the money and show the sandwich franchise Subway that the show they were sponsoring had an audience. She presented the idea to Zachary Levi who plays the titular character Chuck Bartowski at Starfury conventions T1 event in Birmingham, UK. Levi and Adam Baldwin (Casey) then asked the hundreds of con attendees to follow them on en masse to the local Subway.

Levi, who described the show as "On the good side of the bubble", even got behind the counter and helped out the besieged staff of the outlet in the Birmingham NEC exhibition centre, staying until the very last fan was served.

We were in attendance at the foody flash mob and have these pictures from other sandwich and Chuck-hungry fans.

"The Finale and Footlong campaign asks fans to BUY A $5 FOOTLONG from Subway on April 27th, the season finale of Chuck.

TIME's Poniewozik agrees "throwing money" "is a far more effective way to argue for a show."

So remember to buy $5 footlongs on Monday, 4/27/2009 for the Chuck season finale. And fill out a comment card thanking them for sponsoring Chuck. My Subway did not have comment cards. :(

Any idea whether buying stuff in Australia will make much of a difference?

And what are people putting on the comment cards?
"Thanks for sponsoring Chuck!"?

I might go down to my local Subway and do it...I should have time!! Although, it being Australia, I've no idea how many people will do it, or whether they even have comment cards...

That is what I would have wrote on a comment card if they had one. I'll be sure to check at the Subways that I go to Monday.

Is Chuck airing in Aussieland? And if so, does Subway sponsor Chuck in Aussieland?

I have no idea. Chuck is currently airing on payTV (Fox8) but it's still the first season. As for whether it sponsors it, I just assumed since they will often eat Subway on the show, that it would be sponsored by them everywhere, as in, the production is sponsored by them, not the station?

I think production since Subway is in the show. So have Subway in Aussieland too!

Also the Adam and Chuck thing happened in the UK! So go for it!

It is pretty much an ongoing product placement deal throughout the second season( possibly the first, been too long since i "dusted off" the dvds...)

in one of the more recent episodes, Morgan "bribes" Big Mike with a Footlong Chicken Teryaki, and breifly does the $5 Footlong song from the commercials, i also remember an earlier episode with a 6 foot sub eating contest between Jeff and, someone else, that they went out of their way to mention Subway with.

My post from the 23rd,

http://www.fireflyfans.net/mthread.asp?b=5&t=37940

Most of us over on the O.B. think it was Adam that posted it there.
I am glad this stunt went off well, don't forget to go and pick up a sub, remember to take a pre written note because most of the shops don't have comment cards. This was posted by people on the O.B. who were at the Subway shop in England too.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

I'll be buying one at lunch time and one tonight on the way home!

Love Chuck and hope like hell NBC doesn't pull the plug.

My local Subway had no comment cards, so the dude let me write it on a piece of paper. Hope he doesn't just pitch it in the trash...

How very "Browncoat" of him!! You can tell these guys really love the show and appreciate the opportunity the fans give them to do something they enjoy.

So, now I gotta run out after work and get a Subway Sandwich! Maybe I'll talk some other folks into doing the same AND we can print off a LOT of stuff saying "THANKS FOR SPONSORING CHUCK!!" for the comment card bins.

Zoe: "Get it running again."
Mal: "Yeah"
Zoe: "So not running now"
Mal: "Not so much"

Anyone reckon we should keep buying em and filling out comment cards? I got one yesterday (Monday in Aust) and filled one out, but should we fill more out if we're going to Subway over the next few weeks?

I will be going several times a week until we get word on whether Chuck is picked up or not.

Went twice yesterday to two different locations and filled out comment cards at both.

CELLARDOOR

I bought a $5 footlong yesterday, but they didn't have comment cards. Too bad I didn't think until this morning that I could have gotten a receipt and mailed it to one of the studios or Subway or something. Then again, I still haven't actually seen the show, but I'm pretty sure I'd like to... Wow, I think that makes me a new level of nerd: supporting a show I've never even watched because a cast member from Firefly is in it. :)

CellarDoor, that's a great idea. I got one yesterday but no comment cards. I do have a receipt though. I figured I'd have to mail someone to show my support now and at least I can send the receipt as proof of support.

STOWEAWAY

I bought a sub last night on my way home to watch the finale.
They didn't have comment cards either. So when I got home, I went on their website and submitted a comment thanking them for sponsoring CHUCK. There's a place to enter the store location. And I included my transaction number from my receipt.
Hopefully that will help.
