RIPWASH

I've been catching up on the Firefly Extras now that I've watched all the episodes on the DVDs. I'm kind of amazed that they cut the scene where Zoe tells Simon about the Battle of Serenity and how all the people died waiting for the peace treaty to be ironed out. Wow. That was pretty powerful.

All the extras are very neat, from the characters talking about how much they loved the experience to talking about how the ship was treated as an actual character. I was especially moved by Ron Glass saying he was looking forward to a time when he could talk about Firefly without getting emotional. And Alan talking about his three "getting ready to do something buttons" and the great "chickie" noises they made? Awesome.

The gag reel is hilarious also. Alan Tudyk "waking up" cracks me up every single time. Reminds me of how his character Wat wakes up in "A Knight's Tale", but a mite more subdued.

Zoe: "Get it running again."
Mal: "Yeah"
Zoe: "So not running now"
Mal: "Not so much"

It's a shame I don't have to take acting class any more. That scene and The Operative's scene about the battle ( also deleted, or at least cut) from the BDM, edited together, would make a great monologue.

Yeah, I agree that the scene with Zoe explaining to Simon did add some more depth to the background story of Mal, Zoe, the Browncoats, and even the ship. I don't know if it's considered canon since it's not in the actual episode "as Joss envisioned it" but I'd like to think that it is.

My tag/quote comes from that deleted scene and I noticed that a picture of Zoe that sometimes pops up in the top left rotating picture corner also came from that scene. I kept looking for it as I progressed through the episodes (since I found this site before completing all of them) but it never turned up until I watched the deleted scenes a couple of weeks ago. Good stuff...!

Love the gag reel too!

Actually, that scene IS how Joss envisioned the Pilot, but it is not what F*x Execs wnated anybody to see. Turn on the commentary when watching those scenes. They got deleted at the insistence of the network.

Yes, JSF is correct. All deleted scenes are canon with the exception of the objects in Space sequence which had to be changed to what we see in the episode for reasons of continuity.

But all other scenes are 100% canon. I feel strongly opposed to the deletion of the sequence where River sticks a pillow under her shirt and claims to be pg to simon (Deleted scene from Our Mrs Reynolds). Yes that scene was strange, but it sets up the part I wish had been kept: when Safron approaches with Mal and says something nice to River. River then declares loudly "You're a Liar". What an AWSOME scene. A perfect example of a Joss misdirect. He sets us up with River's bizarre antics before allowing her to psychically read Safron and see her as she truely is...a liar and thief. But we and the crew dismiss River as a lunatic. Perfecto! And it got deleted. Stupid FX.
