Could Blue Sun have experimented on River with "good" intentions?

There have been speculations that the Reavers and River were the result of the same line of experiments that Blue Sun has been conducting. What if, the Reavers had nothing whatsoever to do with Blue Sun? Suppose that Rivers intended purpose was to establish contact with the Reavers.
She is a reader and is intuitive with a phenomenal intellect. This would give her a chance to comunicate with, and understand the motivations of the Reavers. Simon: "She feels everything. She can't not." Zoe: "The Alliance could have uses for a spy that can read minds"

She has inhuman combat skills. All the better to stay alive long enough to find a way to establish dialog. Kaylee: "No one thats a person could shoot like that."

Josh has said that Mal can't see the good that the Aliance is doing because of his history. Maybe we haven't been able to see Blue Sun's good deeds because we are too close to River.

If it was Blue Sun's plan to stop the Reaver attacks by using a fully augmented and prepared River to establish contact and negotiate with the Reavers, would thier morbid and creepifying "the end justifies any means" methods be totally evil?

I hope that I expressed this well enough.
It seems to be a compelling reason for the horrors
River had to endure.
What do you think?

That is certainly an interesting theory. The Reavers are getting closer every year, after all.

It doesn't excuse what the Alliance has done (but then, it's my estimation that anyone who's ever run a government has been some kind of sumbitch or another), but it is a little more interesting than just 'They're ultra evil'. Of course the blue Hand group still look ultra evil, but then again, if you're going to order someone to stick needles into the eyes of little kids, you'd probably want to hire someone without any conscience.

That's an interesting theory. It seems, though, that if Blue sun sort of controlled the Alliance, that they would go to the easiest means of Reaver control, which seems it would be search and destroy, rather than psychological examinations. It's possible that she's a weapon against the Reavers, but I dont' think her psychological abilities are to communicate with Reavers.

Uh, I'm sort of whacked out on sinus medicine, so I'll sign off now...

Since it was an Aliance academy that River was rescued from, perhaps Blue Sun is working on a solution to the Reaver problem at the behest of the Aliance.

Did anyone else notice that in OoG when Wash was feeling uncomfortable with Saffron's proximaty he said "I need airflow" echoing Mal's comment on the dress?

Might it be that the search is for a mechanism to covertly control the Reavers, rather than eliminate them?

A monopolistic cabal seeking to control Government might make use of the savage attacks on communities to gain access to funds and promulgate draconian regulation; any modern parallels are your own

What if the Alliance asked Blue Sun to come up with a way to establish dialog with the Reavers and Blue Sun had the thought that Reavers under Blue Sun control would be even better?

Then, can I know her?

I never thought the Reavers had anything to do with the Alliance. This is a pretty interesting theory. I like it.

This is a very interesting theory. Even if it's not true, it does make you think about what exactly the Alliance/Blue Sun has to fear so much that they would invest in such presumably expensive research and experimentation into psychic spies/assassins and blue-hand brain melters? With what we've seen so far of the galaxy, it doesn't appear large scale insurrection is very likely anymore. Would research into such weapons really be necessary to deal with small-time crime or civil unrest? Is extreme paranoia sufficient justification for investing in River's program, or is there some specific thread they designed her/them to counter?

The Serenity script review hints at a very specific reason that the Aliance wants to capture River. I realy think I'm onto something.

America loves a winner!

Why use a teenage girl to deal w/ Reavers when you can just send the Blue Hands out w/ their wandy thing and what ever other toys they likely have ?

This why the control scenario works. As the Independents no longer exist as a meaningful threat, it is of benefit to a monopolistic cabal to use such threats that do exist in ways that support its hegemony over cowed populations; if you want to draw a parallel with the demise of state communism and the rise of islamic terrorism, I didn't say it.

We don't know how long River's planned modifications were supposed to take. Simon could have rescued her 5 or 15 years before she was complete.

The Blue Hands don't seem entirely human to me (read that as you will). They may have trouble being intuitive in situations. (See Ariel where they seem to be blindly following Jayne & the Tams. If they were completely human, they'd have considered locking down the hospital w/ some BS story just in case...)
I have to point out I'm not saying they're aliens, or even robots, but they do seem... inhumane would be the best word, I guess. (The human monster is always the most horrifying.)
