What are some of the substantial things/people/events in your life?

Substantial Thing: The back corner of our front 20 acres. For some reason it is one of the most comfortable places in the world to me.

I'm not really sure bout this ponderable. D*C is a place I love to be. It's awesome and I dont think I've been much happier in recent years than I was when I was there. But in general, I like my guitars. I'm not all that great, and dont ever make much progress, but I always like playing.

I've already come up with a solution. Denial!

See here's what I'm running with. Most cats with kidney problems start to show signs around 10 years old and then they have maybe a year left. When Kaylee got an infection it made the signs show up way early. So, now that the infection is gone we're ahead of the game and with fluids and meds she's going to live to be 100. That's infallible logic. lalalalalalala

LOL ok Zeek we'll be sure to remind you... yes that's what the tests are for. I failed the one hour glucose test so I have to go in for the big long one and hope for best 2 out of 3 tests ( plus one for a baseline) otherwise it's confirmed I have gestational diabetes ( luckily the diabetes goes away after birth, but it's a huge pain and not safe for the baby or me so it requires lots of special stuff)

I hope you studied this time. I don't know how I feel about teachers who fail tests.

Kaylee's still acting like she doesn't have a care in the world...except when it's fluids time and she tries to slink away before the needle can get her. Well that and when we both got freaked for a while when there was all sorts of load banging at 5:30am this morning. I finally grabbed my cell and was all ready to dial 911 as I went to investigate. Once I got to my door though I could hear people outside arguing. Sounded like the neighbors got in a fight and the lady was leaving. I heard something like "I did offer to help carry stuff" from a guy and "shut up" from a girl and a lot of banging noises that sounded like she was struggling with the stairs. They also proceeded to slam their door every time one of them went in or out. So considerate.

Oh my god I have neighbors like that ><;; the occurences are few and far between, but whenever they do act up (they're not a couple, it's a family-ish sortof) the whole neighborhood knows. lots of loud, lots of slamming, and lots of swearing. very considerate of the small children who live next door, and the fact that half the street can hear them. And as MsA said, your neighbors suck ><;; sorry dude.

You think you got bad neighbors.... Try having one try to shoot your dogs. Couple a' years back, snow knocked down the fence and most of my pack got loose (Had six at the time) As I was rounding them up, the neighbor, who I tried to make nice with when he bought the house next door, came running out with his shotgun and started shooting. Missed thank god but the big threat he shooting at was a 25 pound puppy who was having fun running around in the deep snow.

Hwoon-Dahn.

I told him to put the gun away and he then told me to get off his property or he was gonna kick my Pi-gu. Well since he had a shotgun, I got off the property (A whopping three steps to my driveway which borders the two lots) If not for the gun, I might have pushed the issue since he's kinda like Badger in size (and attitude) while if I ever did the costume thing at a convention, I'd be Monty. (A short Monty but you catch my drift)

Anyway, Cops show up, I get a $50 fine for letting the dogs run loose and Badger comes a hair's breadth from becoming intimate with the back seat of a police car. Only reason he didn't go to jail was if they had arrested him, things would have escalated.

After several years of indifference and even hostility, I said the heck with it and moved in with the Girlfriend... Better sense money wise and no more dog shooting Hwoon-Dahn next door.

Sorry, had to vent slightly.

Thanx for the welcome MSA, I'm really looking forward to getting to know you guys. Am sending good wishes wending their way for kitty; you will let us know what happens, yes?

I agree about that neighbor...it's a damned good thing I wasn't there, I'm not too bright about self-control OR self-safety and would probably have gotten shot. But I'd love to join your experiment...except I'd say let's get him in a dark alley and do him damage; not the kind of person worth going to jail for!

However, in the moment, if someone shot my dog I'd kill 'em and end up in jail 'cuz that's not a time I use my brains...

As to imponderables, I'm kinda stuck. It sounded like, from the initial post, it was abou places or things that touch us, but people seem to have gone on to EXPERIENCES, so I'm not sure which.

As for places, it's easy for me. Seven or eight years ago I built myself what we call my "Outback"...a bed in the far corner of our back yard near our tiny "grove" of redwood trees. I've slept there evere since, outdoors, and only slept indoors two nights when my dog was dying (and only two because she wanted to be out there) and while on vacation in England. Otherwise, the peace, fresh air, openness, trees, birds...everything; houses are dead air, walls adn cramped to me now...FOR SLEEPING; I spend a lot of my day indoors otherwise in my recliner because of physical problems.

As for experiences, I couldn't narrow it down easily. I've been very fotunate to have many expeiences others haven't, like living in Afghanistan from 9-11, being part of a semi-professional folkdance group; having a booth at a Renaissance Faire for several years; working extensively in animal rehab; working at Marineworld; all are treasured memories and all made such an impact in my life, I couldn't choose one.

Thanks for the well wishes all. Kaylee is still doing just fine as far as I can tell. Ordered her some medicine that should help keep her toxin levels down. I also got her high on catnip this weekend. The web tells me that has no impact on kitties with bad kidneys. So, I figured I'd let her have some fun.

I'm thinking that I'll try to plan a Kaylee appreciation night sometime soon. Get some friends over who like her, buy her a bunch of toys, get some batteries for the laser pointer, sprinkle some catnip around and watch some Kayleecentric episodes of Firefly.

I always thought it was funny to see the kitty acting high. I didn't really know that catnip is basically kitty pot. Reading up on it to make sure it was kidney friendly the sites basically said the cats get a high out of it but no lasting effects or anything bad. One site even said it can be good for kitties with kidney problems because it can relax them. Kaylee didn't seem relaxed while she was rolling around in it though. A few times she flipped out and booked it to another room. Then a minute later she'd come walking in like nothing happened and right back to rolling in the catnip. Ah crazy Kaylee.

Cats on catnip are a gas. We had eight, and each one seemed to take it differently.

One was only interested in the fresh catnip I grew in the garden, wouldn't touch the dried stuff.

Another rolled around in it, spread it all over, then I swear to gawd, would lay there totally still and look for all the world like he was stoned out of his gourd.

The best one was my husband's little Burley, a butter-bear of a cat who never got big. He'd race over to a pile of it, cover it with his paws (like the kitten in a photo here, except WIDE AWAKE), bury his nose in it and eat and eat, then get wild and roll in it, spread it all over the place, yet try to protect it ALL at the same time. Woe unto he who dared to reach his hand ANYWHERE Burley could reach at times like that!

Knew a guy once whose cat was ultra cool. The guy was a dealer; cat was obviously in the right place. If we sat down to get high (this was in my teenage years, some 40+ years ago), the cat would appear out of nowhere and start rubbing on the guy's leg. Guy would reach over, grab a cloth bag lined inside with plastic, open it and blow in. Cat would walk into bag, guy pulled drawstring closed (not completely) and, not a movement. Coupla minute later, bag would move, cat's nose would appear, he'd push it open and literally WOBBLE a few feet, lay down and CRASH. Guy said cat had NO interest in catnip!

maybe the cat thought it was a lion, and wanted a jungle to lurk in. :P

I swear my brother's dog thinks he's a cat, and it's his sister's (brother's cat) fault. This beast weighs about 80 pounds, but he'll jump up and perch on the arm of the couch, or the back of the couch like the cat does, and on occasion when he sees her hiding behind the blinds, he'll pounce on her from ACROSS the room. Most agile dog I've ever seen, but still a little scary when you see that much mass hopping around like it weighs ten pounds.
