Hey all, I'm a total geek, I love Firefly, and I love Final fantasy (I have other things on my geek resumé, but that's irrevelant). I want to replay FFVII, and figured what better names than Firefly character names. Trouble is, I can't decide who should be who.

Cloud should be Mal; both troubled main characters.

Barrett: I originally thought Jayne, but then I thought Jayne might make a better Cait Sith, who betrayed the party at one point. But then again, Cait Sith might be Book, as Book probably has affiliation with the scary bad guys.

Aeris could be Kaylee or River; they're both pure spirits.

Vincent seems to be Simon, but it could be Book; atoning for sins past.

Tifa seems to be Zoe; a serious fighter, but still feminine.

Cid could be Kaylee; they're both adept with machines.

Yuffie: no real correlation, maybe Inara. Both seem to be business oriented.

Red XIII: No bloody idea. Who would be best represented by a tortured teenage flaming red dog?

Any thoughts on the matter?

Vincent I can more imagine as Book, rather than Simon, as Simon's much more of an open book

than Book.

Cid is an old, sexist, foul-mouthed mechanic (that's why we love 'im)
Kaylee is a young, sexy girl who wouldn't harm a fly (that's why we love her, albeit in a different way).

Red XIII - tortured, teenage could fit for River - the last three words needn't have to match....

I always thought of Wash as Cid without the swearing.

And yeah, Vincent as Book. I'm currently working on a FF/FF fusion, and Vincent is signed up for Book's part. Just have to figure out the rest...
Any ideas, peeps? (ANY Final Fantasy from VI - IX)

FIREFLEW

Ah, so you're working on a whole heap of characters to work from...

VII/VIII - Cloud/Squall - both could work for "Angry Mal".

IX/VIII - Garnet/Quistis - Inara possibly, because of the high-up connections, you know, being a princess and alla that. As for Quistis, she is fairly refined when in comes down to things.

VII/IX - Tifa/Freya - Possibly Zoe, it's really the only two recent instances I can remember in which a female has also been very melee centered.

VII - Vincent - Book, simply because they're both enigmas, both atoning for past events.

X - Rikku - Kaylee I think, simply because they both have the sunny disposition and mechanical know-how. Aeris could also work, if she gained mechanical knowledge.

VII - Cloud/Red XIII - River possibly; wrong gender, but they both have the mental disorder going on.

VII/IX - Barret/Amarant - Jayne maybe; both are brash, fairly money centered, although I think Barret wouldn't really work as he cares about people to begin with - Marlene.

However, as for Wash and Simon, I'm really not that sure. Steiner in IX has protective instincts on Simon, but none of the intelligence, lifestyle, past etc. Wash too is difficult, as he seems fairly well adjusted, a rare thing in Final Fantasy...

Hmm, we've both had some pretty similar ideas, Fireflew. Here are my original ideas...
MAL- Laguna Loire/Squall Leonheart (VIII)
KAYLEE- Selphie Tilmitt (VIII)
WASH- Cid Highwind (VII)/ Zell Dincht (VIII)
JAYNE- Amarant Coral (IX)/ Reno (of the Turks) (VII)
BOOK- Vincent Valentine (VII)/ Strago Magus (VI)
RIVER- Eiko Carol (IX)/ Relm Arrowny (VI)

I haven't had any ideas for Inara, Zoe, or Simon, but your ideas have helped.
Here's the revised list...
MAL- Squall
ZOE- Quistis (Both served together in SeeD)
JAYNE- Amarant
WASH- Cid/Zell (Still undecided.)
KAYLEE- Selphie/Rikku/Yuffie (Ditto.)
INARA- Rinoa/Garnet/Yuna (Meh. You get the idea...)
BOOK- Vincent
SIMON- Reeve
