Well, I'm de-lurking to share some great news with all of you. I work full-time at a video store. We have a list called "Open To Buy". If we employees think of any and everything that's under the sun (stars?), we write it down there. A few weeks ago, I'd put Firefly on there and added on the top of the page: *Firefly WILL rent. Universal is releasing a theatrical movie, "Serenity" in early 2005*
So today our manager started filling out the OTB list and she put it on there! In just a few days, I can promote the hell out of it.
As she was finishing it up, an old friend from high school came in and we started talking television. He'd actually seen an episode of Firefly, loved it, and had tried to buy the series when he was in Iraq (they had one copy left). But someone else grabbed it. I advised him to pick it up. I also did some light promotion on a piece of currency bearing Washington's visage. In any case, I just thought I'd let everyone know this. Have a great evening! :)

Hahah, way to go!

Sounds like you've got a knack for guerilla advertising.

Thank you. One thing about box sets like Firefly is that few video stores buy them. (A damaged or missing disc means the store no longer has a box set to rent.) If you want to see a box set title most likely you have to rent from Netflix etc, borrow from a friend or buy it. So there's much less chance to try it before buying.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Great guerilla marketing FilmCritic3000. Now you can pitch Firefly to people browsing the sci fi section, or even the westerns.

I have been writing Firefly inspired messages on bills for a while now. I also put this sites address so anyone interested can stop in and learn more about the show.

My experience has been different--probably the flagships were The Sopranos and Sex and the City, but my local video stores (which aren't anything special) carry box sets for other shows, including 24, Alias, and Oz.

Firefly's going to be on the new release wall.

At my local Blockbuster The Sopranos for example are rented as single DVDs. So you would rent the Episode 1 through 4 disk, then Episode 5 through 8, etc.

I am thinking that is how they will rent Firefly.

It's all up to what type of part number we're given. If we're given only one, then the whole series will be for rent. If not, then each disc will be split up. I'm hoping for the latter.

EMBERS

I had thought about trying to get my local video store to carry it but decided it would be up-hill work,
instead I've been buying extra copies (5 so far) to give people as gifts:
wedding
birthday
housewarming
any time is a good time to give 'Firefly' DVDs!

I would love to find a site where I could buy more of them at cheaper prices...anyone know of any place? Christmas is coming up!
