Hey everybody,

I just saw the trailer for the new Stargate series Stargate Universe. The trailer intoduces a crew of people stranded thousands of lightyears from home. Immediately, a flag went up in my head: This is eerily similar to the premise of Star Trek Voyager!

I grew up on the Voyager and I hope this is not some sort of rip off.
(Also, I've never seen any stargate besides the original movie, but this idea seems to be a bit off topic for the series.)

Any ideas?

Stargate has fpr a long time been a bonehead production. Always a new sinister heartless enemy to fight.

Won't be long before they battle Mothra.

At least they're continuing a Star Trek tradition...

From the trailer I watched it appears a much darker series then Voyager. Odyessy beat Voyager to that plotline.

Not too interested in any Stargate series. If it's ripping off my least favorite Trek.... even less so.

I got the same feeling. It looks a lot darker than previous Stargates, but the basic plot-line does seem to be another "Lost in Space" show. Voyager, meets BSG, meets steampunk?

SGA always felt like a DS9 rip off (humans on a remote alien outpost), so a Voyager rip off would come next!

I'd given some thought to movin' off the edge -- not an ideal location -- thinkin' a place in the middle.

I'm a pretty big stargate fan, and can definately recognize the simularities. Universe does seem way darker that SG-1 or Atlantis, and I think it'll be interesting to see if that alienates any stargate fans. The thing to remember, however, is that there are really like 12 sci-fi plots. Period. People have just been reworking the same things over and over. At the same time, each feels different because we experiance different characters going through the same types of things. Despite how simular it seems to Voyager, it's different people in the same situation, which will produce a completely different feel.

I watched 16 episodes so far (no I didnt watch the old stargate so dont know if it has any similarities) and i can say that the focus is on people not on sci-fi.And the fact that they dont control the ship gives it more of "desperate" atmosphere and its much more closer to us than Voyager so to me its better :)

It is not my favorite, but I find myself watching it on Fancast. I enjoy Eli the most, because he is honest and good. The so-called leaders have agendas that don't appeal to me.
