Yeah apparently the neighbors were trying to find their gray tom cat and our dogs had brought him over to hangout at our house ( not that NV and I were aware of this until my 2 am stumbling over cat in house) had to appologize to the neighbors and try to explain the dogs missed their cats and must have brought him in with them

Which is not to be confused with the incident a few days ago when the dogs frantically scratched on the bedroom door and NV got up to discover another dog had gotten in and was stealing their food.... apparently it can jump a 6 ft fence and then broke in scaring our idiots ...er dogs

Is there a reason work places make you were stupid uncomfortable work clothes even though customers wont see you? EVEN if they do see you, why would anyone care that the person that is helping them is wearing jeans?

I say this because I start a new temp job on Monday (YAY!) but boo to having to wear binding work clothes and tight shoes all day.

My old work was casual. I could walk in with jeans, chucks and a t shirt and that would be just fine. And it was even in an office.

Ohhh memories...

I'd like a job I kind of need to dress up for. Perhaps because I never have a chance to dress up XD (that, and I make sure to buy comfortable dress clothes, so I actually don't mind wearing them)

I mean, I wouldn't turn down a job that allowed jeans and a tee, I'm really kind of indifferent to the matter. :P

Barkeep, was woken up shortly before 6 this morning by the FRAKING FIRE ALARM!!! Which isn't like those fire alarms they have in school where they're so shrill you're sure your eardrums are going to burst. No, this one is very similar to the sound the hangar door makes when the technicians are opening it in the morning (hard to describe, I don't know if there's another sound like it..well, besides our fire alarm @_@). But yeah, the funny thing about alarms in this complex, nobody reacts. The reason being that it's aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaalways a false alarm, someone burning breakfast or something ><;; This time it was someone self-cleaning his oven @_@ THERE'S A REASON FOR THE HOOD FAN OVER THE STOVE. But yeah, some of us got up, some of us didn't. Exciting morning ><;;

Avery & MsA: This magical store is Kohl's, believe it or not. I've found some very comfortable, nice-looking work pants there, and some nice comfortable blouses at Burlington Coat Factory (though you have to sift through the racks because that place, at least the one near me, isn't very organized, but it's still worth it because they're reasonably priced).

I abhor skirts, and heels, but Kohl's and Famous Footwear don't have a bad selection. I have a couple pairs of dress shoes (moderate heel, but they're more like shoes shoes than heels) that I like. ^_^

You think you know--what's to come, what you are. You haven't even begun.

Remember the shoes I wore all D*C, Lila? Not heels, but almost heeled, and cute, and damn comfy. There are also some comfy platforms. Nylons are not comfy, but I've found that actual tights can be comfy. Many thanks to Queen Latifa, there are tights that are designed to fit our curves now. Skirts are comfy as long as they're not tight and binding. Pants are more comfy, and I have several pairs of semi-dressy pants that I wear every day because I loves them. The secret is elastic bands, of course.
The magical brand for shoes is called unStructured. The magical place I've found the magical tights is, I think, Target. The magical place for clothes? Chicos. But they're way expensive, so I look for cheaper alternatives in the wonderful fabric they make half their line with, and check places like the Repeat Boutique (not, sadly, a chain) or certain thrift stores, where I've found Chicos stuff for ten bucks or less. Oh, and Ross has some nice stuff sometimes, too. Kohls, as mentioned, can have some good stuff.
I actually find jeans to be far less comfortable than most of the clothes I own. And I've been asked more than a few times what I was all dressed up for. I just like nice fabrics that look nice and feel like nearly nothing, is all.

Oh I loved the skirts you wore at D*C, but I wouldn't be allowed them at work. The superintendent insists on suits or suit like only. So it's pencil skirts or suit pants, blouses, heels, nylons whole shebang. On maternity I can wear pants and flats but they have to be nice not cotton or casual at all. I can't wear jeans, cotton pants, or casual pants or shirts like the stuff at Kohls. That stuff is cute but it's considered business casual not business dress.
Also love the shoes, but they aren't dressy enough for work...sigh

It's just another reason why I am looking forward to switching back to teaching where I can wear cute jeans, nice tops and comfy shoes...

I cant do elastic. It don't like the way I look in it. It makes me look all weird shaped.

I have yet to find a pair or work pants that don't pinch. I don't mind skirts, I find them very comfortable. Its the tights and nylons and all that stuff that is uncomfortable to me. But obviously I can't wear a skirt to an office without.

I don't like the blouses either. I HATE button down tops I feel like I can't move in them but they are the only things that I think still look "cute" (remember I am a girly girl). Other tops I see are those ones from like...Layne Bryant all loud designs/bad material and ugly. OR they are beautiful and UBER expensive.

My work place IS business casual so I don't suffer as bad as you MsA, but still. I'm a T shirt and jeans girl through and through.

*e-hugs HK* doing well, if I could only find where some of my important paperwork is in my place...*sigh* it's the only thing holding me back from getting hired to work...they need it and won't accept a passport even for the paperwork -- how freaky is that?

*starts counting blessings on clothing issues*
District doesn't allow for cotton dress slacks? Really?! Wow. Your district is about as hot (maybe not as muggy) as mine (was) so that's got me going....ummm...yeah...

I've heard that Taryn Rose is a good dressy/comfortable brand (that costs an arm and a leg -- I looked at the prices once and HOLY COW was it pricey). Personally I like Mephisto, Munro, and Ecco brands for shoes.

Hosiery, I have not a clue...I live in teh tropics zone so not many wear hose with dresses -- even when it's going out for clubbing. (Thank goodness too, we'd likely melt from wearing that and lined clothing...really, not reasonable wear for anywhere in between the Tropic of Capricorn or Tropic of Cancer -- it's too freakin' hot.)

Avery: would shell-type tops work for you? 'Cause I count myself blessed that my mom enjoys sewing that style of tops, but a well-cut one out of a nice fabric might work out...they can be "cute" without being too binding (at least to me).

Other thought would be going to Norsdtrom Rack and digging through their (pulled, pricey, usually end-of-season, but still cheaper than retail) selections. Getting stuff that's a bit on the loose side and paying the bit extra for a seamstress (if it's easier and safer than trying to sew it yourself) should make the fit better overall. Besides taking stuff in is a lot easier than taking stuff out fabric-wise.

Personal opinion: I have about 5 or 6 pairs of "work pants" and waaay too many blouses (thanks Mom for sewing them! ) but even with me washing 'em after every wearing they're still pretty good and have lasted me a few years. 'Course, it's what I consider my "uniform" for work -- and unless I'm going out to a fairly fancy restraunt with my family -- I usually don't wear them any other time.

Other thought would be to hit up the personal shopper at Macy's and other department stores (AFAIK Macy's does not charge for this bit of "luxury" and the shopper might have better suggestions and ideas than me....plus you're under no obligation to buy stuff.)

anyhow...my .02 plat on the whole "dressing up for work" deal. 'Course I'll point out that I wore this kind of stuff at work, but was still mistaken for a student when I was working with my students in the classroom at times. (How you can miss the one person wearing stuff tht wasn't a T-shirt and shorts/jeans/skirt is still making me go "huh?")

Passport not good enough? Yeah, that's a bit odd, considering it's a legally obtained government ID. Huh. Well, if you need me to, I can TOTALLY tell them that you're you. XD

Avery, I completely feel your pain on this one. For the first 8 years of my career, I wore whatever I wanted - including some of my awesomest PVC pants XD zomg what was i thinking - and no one cared. Now for the last 3 years, New Management tried to pull the "better dress" bullshit on us. They implemented a dress code for the whole company, which is actually fairly reasonable and logical. But the VP of my department... well... she's a bit... um... not from this planet. I swear, the woman expects me to wear fancy dress daily. But honestly, how the fuck do you get porcine or canine blood out of haute couture? To date, I haven't violated the company dress code since its inception, but I'll be damned if I follow VP Couture's dress mentality.

She actually did wear jeans one day, though.

But they were Gucci and made out of silk.

O.O

Anyhow, you could always try what she does - fly to various countries to go to their high end shopping meccas and buy clothing that's more than most people's yearly income. Or... maybe it's time that we all fly out to NY to go shopping with you until we find you something you like that's comfy. ^__^

I now have a jeweler's torch. The flame gets up to 2450 degrees Fahrenheit. Any resulting disasters will be posted to my flickr account. XD

HK- Yeah I was totally spoiled at least years temp job (that's all I do, temp stuff. I compare myself and my work life with that of the BDH, no matter what I get screwed over by "the man" and things keep getting canceled on me)
Anyways. I got to wear jeans, sneakers, t shirts, hoodies. Only restrictions we had was no spaghetti strap tank tops and no flip flops (though I was sneaky a few times and did it anyways) plus the work was WAY easy! It was so awesome there. I didn't realize how good I had it.

"Or... maybe it's time that we all fly out to NY to go shopping with you until we find you something you like that's comfy. ^__^"

Now that is an idea I can get behind. I think its only necessary us girls all get together and do this... I mean it IS for work... and work is important >_>

lol, you don't seem very convinced by that last bit, Avery XD

barkeep, I've probably said this, but "Women in Love" is killing me. physically and mentally, not even joking. It's like creative death. It's not even a soap opera because there's less drama and more...talking. These people love to talk. It consumes their lives.

something to help me struggle through the next hundred pages before I die please?

oooh fire... I do so love fire
I can't wait to see the gorgeousness that results

I believe the reasoning for the yucky grown up clothes is it makes people respect you and my point is, if I need an expensive outfit to garner respect then I must be a total idiot.... I foolishly choose to garner respect by being good at what I do

Avery I'd join you on the shopping spree except I hate to shop...
