I would think at this point in his career that would be pocket change for him. Why does he have to shop it around?

I think it is a great idea. I bet if he was open to fan financing, he'd have the money by now!

Well, there is that old saying about filmmaking - only an idiot finances a project with his own money (I say this as someone who has self-financed several films...).
