Imponderables: Seasonal Visitors by nvghostrider

I wondered if it might be a 'city-grid' thing, but I don't know much about how city electricity workings are structured :P, or how close your place of work and the hospital were to your place. (I didn't want to do that horrible thing and 'assume'. --I'm used to living in a town. power outages are very localized)

Re: view of work from home: Well, if you don't like your job, I can see it being bothersome, being able to see your work from your home. If you like your job, then the opposite.
Or, from a transportation/traffic perspective, at least you're somewhat close :) Long commutes can be annoying, and tiresome.

lol, can't really disagree on that sentiment ;)

Ponder on words: I'm reading Jane Eyre for Lit., and this question always seems to come up when I read certain books. How do words evolve from one form to another? I mean, how does "for ever" turn into "forever"; or "to-night" into "tonight"; "whatever" into "whatsoever" (if I'm right in the latter being the actual progression of the word) and so on? I would expect common spoken language would have to play a part (maybe, I could be wrong), but usually conversational English doesn't heavily affect the way things are established as far as I can tell (otherwise run-ons and fragments would be grammatically correct in written English, least that's my view). At what point does a colloquial change become a 'correct' word, since not all coined words end up in the dictionary? Why were certain words (like the ones above) separate to begin with if people speak and perceive them as a single word?
Thoughts? References? Links? whatever?

The only problem with visible workplace is that you can get caught easier when playing hookie. :D I live about two miles from work ON the street A LOT of people travel to get to work. I used to park in the driveway. This all adds up to calling in sick only when you're really sick and not because you want to sleep in and then go play with the horses. :D

I work from home some days mainly because my commute is over 120 miles a day. Which is a pain.

I love Jane Eyre:)Such an archetypal set of characters and yet nuance and detail really makes them absolute. One of the better gothic fiction pieces:)( Though I do love the tongue in cheek sassiness of Northanger Abbey)

Regarding words: Language evolves. When enough people start using a word (or set of words) a certain way, it becomes accepted. Of course, it only becomes accepted if the empowered socio-economic class is included in the group of people using the word. Otherwise, it's called "slang."

I would never be able to work from home. I find that when surrounded by several more appealing venues, I get easily distracted from what I'm *supposed* to be doing :P

It's proving to be one of the more enjoyable books I've been assigned this semester. It's weird, I can't stand any of the books in my Modern Novel class (early 20th century), but I tend to gravitate towards 18/19th century writing. It's either 1600's-1900, or 1960/70-present, almost everything between 1900 and 1960/70ish (I'll have to recheck the dates on some of my books to be sure) I just can't stand.

I'll have to take a look at Northanger Abbey

I could only work from home if it was a salaried situation. If it was hourly, I'd have a hard time doing what I was suppose to do for X amount of hours a day (I kind of face that AT work, too). Salaried would be awesome. I can get A LOT done in a short amount of time and then I'd get to use the excess time for other pursuits.

So, at my company they try to be all "equal" and give Dad's maternity leave too. Which immediately makes me want to abuse the heck out of that and get a bunch of women pregnant at like 4 week intervals or whatever. Sure the child support would be a pain but heck at 100% maternity leave I could work a ton of jobs at once! Send me those paychecks

My friend's hubby got paternity leave. It rocked because she could get sometime to herself to recoup while hubby bonded with the baby. She definitely seemed more refreshed after giving birth than the women whose husband's didn't have that option.

Oh...and a lot of fathers can take leave by way of FMLA, it's just whether they have access to paid leave that's the issue.

*BTW: I do not like that winky face. It is not nearly happy enough or mischevious enough to be winking. It's like a robot wink. Blargh!

I'd actually get some sleep if there was no internets. I try very hard to not turn my computer on weekdays when I get home because if I do...I'll be up until 12 or 1 or so. You know, the author Dan Simmons thought of that, interestingly enough. In his duology Ilium and Olympos all humans had a weird sort of DNA based nano technology that allowed them to immediately scan any book into their brains. Crazy rich so money is no longer an issue. Use free time to go to veterinary school and go volunteer with an organization like Emancipet. They provide free spay and neutering for pets to people who can't afford the operation. Keeps the pet population down and has helped Austin reduce the number of animals they euthanize each year. Granted I'd be very part time cause I'd be sleeping til noon every day and being super lazy most of the time. Still once in a while I'd probably need a good reason to get out of the house.

Ah...who knew you were such a softie. ;) Got to Vet school...there's incentives for men, especially those interested in small animal practices.

Dream for me: well, it couldn't be mre predictable, but uber-rich so that I could afford horses/showing the way I'd like, but also still be able to give a LARGE amount of $$ to charities so I didn't feel so bad about using a ton of money on such a selfish pursuit. Don't know what that balance would have to be, but 50/50 or close.

Nah I couldn't be a regular Vet. I'd never be able to handle it if someone couldn't afford something the pet needed. I'd always cave and do it for free.

I probably wouldn't be a good vet overall cause if someone was neglecting their pet I'd probably flip out and beat the heck out of them. I've always been an animal lover. Something about them being innocent is so much cooler to me than people who can choose to be jerks.

here's a random ponder: anyone have any salad solutions for a picky eater? The Other Half hates olives (all kinds of greek olives, as well as regular old black olives), hates cucumbers, and only really likes *steamed* carrots, as opposed to the raw bits of carrot you can just skin, rinse, and put in salad. I still put raw carrots in salad, but basically all I have to work with is lettuce/spinach, red cabbage, carrot, and feta cheese. I like having craisins (and cucumbers, and olives) in my salad, but I add those after for myself.
What else can I add, then, to make it not so flimsy as four ingredients? Any ideas?
