Did anyone else see the latest scene from the movie, 2012? It's so way over the top that it was actually entertaining in a themepark ride sort of way.

Don't know about the actual plot though.

To me it just seems like the whole thing is going to be about the world falling apart. literally. physically. and omg these people are trying to survive while the world is 'ending'!!!! I just dunno. I don't like the idea. But that's me :\

And yeah, it does kind of look like an amusement park ride.

Wow. How terrible does this movie look?

I mean, if the world is REALLY ending, what does running buy you?

Flying on duct tape and a damaged registry.

I feel like I just saw the whole movie!

Next time, don't let the Mayans invent a calendar that runs out of numbers, or this will happen all over again. *snort*

I used to live in So Cal. The people there really, really, really think that when an earthquake hits they will all have time to go to the airport and all fly out of state while the quake waits for them to complete boarding.
Not kidding.

Being that it's SoCal, I'm sure there are probably loads of surfers there--just as there are here in Hawai'i--who think that when those Tsunamis start rolling in from the quakes, they're going to surf the waves and have the best rides of their lives.

Yep, those too. But they really did not surprise me as much as the others.

2012.…saw it advertised at the theater today. Like I’m not getting enough gloom & doom from the History Channel these days.

I donno, I like John C so I will likely go see it or catch it on dvd. That is I hope before December 2012. After that I don’t think I’ll be watching anything….nobody will

Not even restricted to the east and west coasts, one of my buddies in Texas, when a hurricane was rolling in (Isabelle?) got plucked off the beach, surfboard in hand, cussin and howling the whole way, by the national guard, heh heh.

Finally some good waves out of the gulf, and no one would let him out there to ride them.

My response to the end of the world would prolly be just goin on doin whatever I happen to be doin at the time - unless I though takin cover would be of some use.

I might go watch this obvious dud just as a special effects bonanza, especially if I get to watch Baltimore obliterated - the bomb in sum of all fears wasn't NEARLY big enough to satisfy...

Interesting concept in regard to disaster proof vessels though, someone I know is working on a zeppelin that has a "skin" made of ultra-light, thin solar panel material, which in theory would help insulate, power the heaters (hot air lift) and the drive motors - it's a neat little toy, has a lot of potential, it does.

ETA: Holy crap, that guy drives like me!
Is he from Michigan, or a Hillbilly, I wonder?

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

It did have that ID feel to it, didn't it.

Not sure about this one. I think Haken is right in that it has that completely over the top, theme park ride thing going on.

Given the special effects and visuals it seems like a movie that if you do want to see it you almost have to see it on the big screen to appreciate it.

Woman, you are completely off your nut.

Yeah, that pretty much renews my opinion that all disaster movies SUCK. Had no desire to see this in the 1st place, and now, after seeing that clip, I wanna see it even less.

ANOTHERSKY

Each decade has its "OMG TEH WORLDZ IS ENDINGZ! OH NOESSSSSS!" movies, in larger or smaller format. Some are good, some are bad, all are pretty bleak, with pyrric victories at best for a small portion of remaining humankind. Whether based on people or natural disasters, I think they prey on the fear of our world falling apart, since it's largely run by very, very large factors. Hows that for Unification?

1970s--Alien(s): (evil corporations rule teh worldz and want us eaten by aliens)
1980s--Terminator(s): (evil corporations rule teh worldz and want us rooled bai teh robots)
1990s had lots of natural disasters, water-based ones, basically the Flood all over again. Comets, asteroids and other celestial bodies were trendy too (Armageddon for example). Last I saw, Hollywood was trying to rehash some old standbys.
Even Tim Burton, master of the escapist genre is
guilty of the visually stunning 9. But again, puppets in a post-apocalyptic world? This trend is getting annoying.

So why isn't 2012 about an evil corporation? Because the evil corporations HAVE taken over, and it's only a matter of time till Blue Sun! Mwah ha ha! I jest. Sort of. We'd all look better in Star Treckian red-shirts. With knifeable logos.

I thought we were done with all this after "The Day After Tommorrow." Snore.

Actually, the trailer made me laugh. It looks like one of those bad Ice-Cube road trip movies plus explosions and pestilence. Yoikey.

Going for a ride.

MAGHAFFAR

I dunno... having the airport runway collapsing just as the plane is taking off? C'mon... And my first question to the pilot would be, "Hey buddy, think you can gain some altitude? Like sometime this month?" no pilot in his right mind would be tooling along at pracrtically ground level where he could get squashed when he's got an AIRPLANE that goes UP for Chrissakes! This isn't an amusement park ride -- oh wait! but it will be soon, right?

OK, rant over. But yeah, I like John Cusack, too...

AVERYFINECOMPANION

I myself thought it was a comedy for the first few minutes. Sort of like a "Scary movie" parody of how the world will end.

Then I saw that they were trying to be serious.

When the ground was breaking. I thought it was going to be a worm monster that pops up, like the one from Beatlejuice.

I just had another thought. Maybe this movie is about what would have happened had we not addressed Y2k.
