It's totally MY fault that Riley is a whiney little pansy boy who needs a damsel in distress to make him feel like a man, and anything resembling independence and strength makes him feel castrated even though I gave him every ounce of my heart and soul, and OH BY THE WAY, my mom is dying and my sister isn't real and there's an evil god out to kill both me and my not-real-sister. But yeah. TOTALLY MY FAULT. I'ma RUN AFTER HIM."
Okay, so, maybe with my summary you can see why I don't understand that episode...?

I did relate to Riley feeling shut out a little bit, but I never thought that justified what he did, and never thought Buffy should have run after him after all that. I don't think she did really love him and I don't think she was very good to him, but then I think Buffy was kinda sorta a total bitch to just about everyone for most of the series. But anyway they clearly had emotional friction as a couple, almost from the very start. If they wanted Riley out of the picture (which clearly, they did) I think they could have done it without the lying and the cheating and the utter drama roller-coaster. It was poorly done. Riley had served his purpose in advancing the story and it was time for him to leave, but the whole arc felt totally contrived, from the moment he started to let vamps suck him. I guess without drama it wouldn't be entertainment, but they could have done it better, yes?

I get why you're puzzled... mostly I think Buffy despite strong and smart makes bad men choices over and over.. unavailable, unkind, unresponsive, or unremarkable.. over and over she's proved that while she can defend us, she's an idiot when it comes to relationships:0

HUGS Rosie.. I am taking over 2 1/2 months maternity leave ( which started 3 weeks ago) and that would be more than FMLA + totally unpaid so really really tough financially so there's just no way I could take more. They'd let me, but we just can't swing it:( Oh well baby will get to be home and hang with daddy so that'll be nice

I tuned out of Buffy shortly into season 4, but I've recently gotten all the seasons, so maybe (just maybe) once I've caught up on Burn Notice, Fringe and various others, I might resume watching it.




Or I could watch Babylon 5, since I've yet to see any of that.

Morning all,

to important matters, never really liked Riley, they seemed to struggle for a while once moving away from high school and loosing that high school is hell framework that had served so well, he was too clean cut, the initiative didn't seem to work for me, I get he was excluded but I'm not sure there was a strong enough idea of his character so what was there to like? It seemed they kept shifting bits of his personality as the scripts required it. Season 5 was not a strong season really although it does contain one of my all time favourite episodes, which we never get to see on tv due to the legal stuff round The Gentleman.

Anyway, work to do, hope your doing ok MsA, about all I can do really.

Well the comic books had him showing up briefly as a bad guy (at least, I'm fairly certain it was him) but unfortunately I'm liking Season Eight less and less and won't keep reading it, so I can't let you know how that turns out.

Still snowed in. My school doesn't seem to think so; they're 'opening late' right before my morning class. Which means instead of having an easy out, I have to email the teach and tell her I'm not coming. That is, if the school email system ever decides to load. Seems I'm not the only one trying to get on it. Blah.

Never liked Riley.... he seemed too needy and well crybaby-ish.

But all of Buffy's men seemed that way. Yes even Spike. It really angered me when the Big Bad went all clingy and needy but he got better in the end so....

Man I miss that show! (needs to buy the seasons on DVD)

lol on the High School Musical comment XD (I haven't seen it, so I had to look it up to get the connection to East High)

My entire primary and secondary school career (with the exception of 8th grade) took place in my hometown in CT, part of a two-town district. I won't list all of the schools because all of them only housed two grades each (according to quite a few people I've met since, that's an odd structure) up until Coginchaug High. Interestingly, my best year of schooling, socially and academically (for the most part) was in 8th grade when I left the district to go to an inner-city magnet school, Thomas Edison.

Ya know until this board I was pretty much a Noob on the interweb board thing. I said some dumb stuff, did some dumb things whatever. No one yelled at me, made rude or derogatory comments or any innuendos thinking that they could outsmart me and still make me look and feel dumb.

I followed friends to another board and saw this shit and much more vicious bullshit on a daily basis. I never felt at home over there so it really doesn't matter that I rarely popped in (and that to talk to about 3 people).

I used to joke that if I wanted to see stuff like that I would go buy a few seasons of 90210.

It seems that stuff like this is happening more and more over here these days. It makes me sick and sad. This place was home. I was always happy to get to work and see who on and what I missed while away at night.

That excitement seems to be gone now. So before I say or do something stupuid I think I will just walk away.

To those I know elsewhere I will probably see you about. To those I donnot, take care. This is the Bartender putting his shirt back on and taking his leave.

Lol, nope, right here in US of A. I just lump them into primary and secondary because for us it was two elementary schools (1&2, 3&4 grade), one middle school (5&6 grade), one junior high (7&8), and then one high school of four years. I remember an acquaintance mentioning that high school was considered secondary education, so I just lumped the previous 8 grades into the 'primary' category. Sorry for the confusion :P

I've seen it some here. I've experienced it here. Didn't see much reason to mention it or cause a fuss since that's never solved the problem. I just avoid certain places and I'm not on every day, even when I might have time to be. There are, after all, other things I need to be doing, and things that might be less frustrating. It saddens me that such things have driven Kel away completely. I'm not sure what specifically he was reacting to at this point, though.

mmmm hummus. I still don't know how to make it, and I don't know what goes into it, but it's still awesome.

As for the grounding thing, it seems to be unfortunately getting to the point where kids care more about having their video games and iPhones than books. The couple of times I was grounded from the TV as a kid(at the time that was the only real "device" we had, as the computer didn't run games, and I had to use it for homework) I'd just read until grounding was over, and most of the time just wouldn't go back to the TV unless it was Saturday morning. Take away a kid's xbox today and it's the end of the world.

FLT... here is coconut milk soup ... which by the way is the best sore throat and head cold cure ever
Ingredients
1 quart chicken stock
1 stalk lemon grass, white part only, cracked open with the flat side of a knife
3 kaffir lime leaves, fresh or dried, hand torn
1 (3-inch) piece fresh ginger, peeled and thinly sliced
2 small Thai chilies, halved lengthwise
2 garlic cloves, crushed
1 (13-ounce) can unsweetened coconut milk
2 tablespoons Thai fish sauce (nam pla)
1 1/2 teaspoons sugar
1 (8-ounce) can straw mushrooms, rinsed
4 limes, juiced
1 1/2 cups shredded cooked chicken
Kosher salt and freshly ground pepper
1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro leaves
Directions
Bring the stock to the boil over medium heat in a soup pot. Add the lemon grass, kaffir lime leaves, ginger, chilies, and garlic. Lower the heat to medium-low, cover, and gently simmer for 10 minutes to let the spices infuse the broth.

Uncover and stir in the coconut milk, fish sauce, sugar, mushrooms, lime juice, and chicken. Simmer for 5 minutes to heat the chicken through; season with salt and pepper. Ladle the soup into a soup tureen or individual serving bowls. Garnish with cilantro. Be careful to avoid chewing the lemongrass, ginger, or lime leaves.

Ooohh.. I didn't have a recipe before! Thanks MsA!

I just sort of whipped it together with a shocking lack of lime. It had chicken boullion, a little lemon juice, some cumin, nutmeg, cayenne, and black pepper.

Apparently the spices really blossomed as it sat waiting for them to get home. oops.

There are as many ways to make hummus as there are to make spaghetti sauce and the arguments can be just as fierce. Smile and nod and take notes if anyone is ever debating it in front of you but DO NOT JOIN IN unless you are either part of the ethnic group having the discussion or a seasoned veteran with a very good grip of the complex issues of lemon and garlic ratios and proper spicing. Just. Don't.

Hummus is basically chickpea and sesame paste with (usually) salt, pepper, lemon juice, and garlic. It can be very elaborately seasoned, or practically plain, or have any number of amendments added. Chunky vs. smooth is not usually an issue like with peanutbutter, but you can get some textural variations. Babaghanoush is eggplant puree, very similar but different, and quite tasty.

Interesting. How does one make the basic paste? Or is it something you can find in a store? (though I love making stuff from scratch, lol)

ok here's how you make hummus the sesame paste is called tahini and you buy it.

2 cans chick peas ( garbanzo beans)
3-4 cloves of peeled garlic
1/4 c lemon juice
1 tsp cumin
3 tablespoons tahini ( sesame butter sort of like peanut butter you can buy at the local health food or grocery store)
water
salt

Drain and put one can of peas in the blender. Add garlic , cumin, and lemon juice. blend til about the consistency of thick peanut butter ( add some water if you need to) then add tahini and second can of peas. Blend on high and add a bit of water at a time until about the consistency of thick and creamy ( or slightly chunky based on preference) add salt and blend a bit more ...

Wake up my sweet lump!"
NV sat bolt upright, though his brain was askew. "Whazzat? Huh? Wha?" He said through the foggy stew. "The bedsheets are sodden, oh gracious what a mess! I'll change the linens while you change your dress."

"Nevermind that, call the doctor." she said with a sigh. "That's three pairs of jammies now for the wash, oh dear my."

So they climbed in the auto, and as they drove out of sight, called back "Happy Halloween, it's a helluva great night!"
