Has anyone else noticed that there are numerous episodes where Christmas, Ducks or Gosslings and Hats (of the big & shiny or very fine or made-from-a-tree variety) are mentioned?

Was Joss forced to eat duck for every Christmas dinner while wearing a silly party hat?? I say this in jest, of course.

But seriously - why the repeated reference to these three items. Each have been mentioned in no less than three episodes each. Not having watched a great amount of his other work, is there something I'm missing?

Just a topic for discussion.

Because ducks, geese, and hats are just funny...?

Seriously I don't know why, but when is Christmas mentioned? I don't recall any holidays other than U-day being mentioned.

Hmm... may have to go watch all episodes to check (a difficult task, I know, but someone's gotta do it )

One of the christmas one's that I can recall off the top of my head was in "Our Mrs. Renolds" The captain is just waking from Saffrons "good night kiss" and say something like, "What happened about me? Is it Christmas?".... at least that's what I recall..

Oh, yeah, another is in the episode "Ariel" (sp?). During the non-interrogation, River talks about the presents being taken away, leaving coal and not looking in the closet because it's geedy... Christmas is not mentioned by name, but it's obvious she talking about it.

Actually, I'm pretty sure it is mentioned by name. As in "They took Christmas away." I'd have to check the script or watch the episode again (which I would do anyway ), but I'm pretty sure it is mentioned.

Don't worry 'bout it. I have that problem a lot. I just happen to have been watching the show a lot lately. 3 times through the whole series in the last month.

I'm don't know what those references are to but being a very big Buffy fan I can tell you that they refer to puppies all over the place. I have always wondered why.

"You look like you've just be diagnosed with cancer of the puppy." Xander

"Puppy. The angery puppy." Buffy

hehe
i'm sure that's it.
hehe

but seriously folks ... i wonder if the mention of christmas was a clue that the christian religion survived.

"They say the snow on the roof is too heavy. They say the ceiling will cave in. His brains are in terrible danger."

could also reflect the writers and joss's fervent hope that the show survived past the first christmas?

oooohhh.... now that's clever! Like that one! But what about Ducks and Hats?? They're mentioned all over the place!!

What would be interesting is to see if it is the same writers making mention of the ducks or hats.... OR is it all or a few of them. If it is more than one has made mention of, say, Ducks, then perhaps there is something afoot.

OR perhaps a duck is a duck is a duck and I should get a life or at least a new hobby!! hehehe

hmmm..
all I know is Ducks have been mentioned throughout Joss' shows. Most memorably (for me) in the Buffy Ep 'Restless' where Anya is on stage telling a joke about a man with a duck on his head. The point of the joke being that it was the duck that spoke and not the man. ie: We Don't Always See What We Should See.
Maybe that's what the duck references are... there's something there that we might miss if we look at the man and not the Duck.
at work, lurking boss.. must run.
