Holy 200 plus responses, batman!

I saw this one the first time it came around in May. I'm always excited to hear some hope about Firefly... I think Nick C may be a LITTLE too optimistic with his numbers, but I've heard the made-for-TV movie idea bandied about some.

It could work, but I think Joss might be better served trying to go internet to produce more stuff. The point might be moot, though, Joss says that he's going to announce his next project right after the series finale of Dollhouse. Everyone is positively abuzz. What could it BE???

One other thing. Joss has said, REPEATEDLY, that if he ever did more Firefly or a movie sequel, that Wash would come back somehow.

I'd frankly like to see the second season, the movie as the second season Joss wanted it. This guy is a crazy awesome writer, I guarantee he could put a spin on it and make it feel new. Do a rerun marathon of season 1 on whatever channel would broadcast it, do season 2, secure season 3. Plenty of tv series have official movies that are considered off-canon. I've never understood why people think of the movie as such an obstacle to new episodes.

Yes I hope so too !

I live in Germany and evene here we have a lot of browncoats. In addition to that I ordered the DVD set from Castle as well from the USA so what I mean is that Fox or ABC or who ever is not only making profit in the US with their shows they do a lot in Europe as well without doing any marketing.
Something they should be thinking of in the 21th Century.

First of all I have to come up with the ugly TRUTH.

Haven’t WE been saying this for years??!!!! A made for tv movie or mini series?

I don’t know who this Nick C. is but he sounds less like a browncoat fan and more like a money cruncher. I don’t give a rat’s tail about F*><. Did they give a gorram, ruttin Sh*t about “Drive” or “TSCC” and now “Dollhouse”? I will admit that I haven’t watched “TSCC” or “Dollhouse” because of what they did to FF & Drive.

Seems to me they are smelling money on the horizon and want to get they greedy little hands in the pie. Yep they own the rights, and yep they had every right to question keeping it on the air after it’s low viewer numbers……but what pisses me off is now is they are thinking--“Platinum Mine”--since they hit a “Gold Mine” off of the dvd sales.

They don’t give a shit about Firefly or Joss or anything else. It’s coming up on 8 years since the tv series and in a few more someone can get the rights to FF and make a bundle. That’s what they’re looking at. With Nathan, Morena, Summer, Alan, Ron, Adam, Jewel, Gina and Sean becoming more popular every minute and Christina and Mark aren’t doing shabby themselves all F*>< can think about is the greenback they may end up missing.

My question to my fellow browncoats here is, “ Would you want a second season of FF on F*>< just to have it cancelled again?” My answer is “YES” even though I can’t stand the thought of that network making another coin off of a tv show they shafted I still love FF more. I would cut a F*>< tv executive’s grass for a year( for free) if it meant another (single) season of FF.

So, is this good news? I would have to say YES even though we still may have to make a deal with the devil……..so goes the world!

It was interesting news in May, but considering there hasn't been so much as a peep since then is not a good sign IMO. Granted there could be crazy strict nondisclosure agreements going on, but you'd think the news would sneak out at some point.

My guess is the author is more or less a wishful thinker. Besides if Dollhouse was renewed because of Firefly then Fox probably thinks they just got confirmation that their decision to cancel Firefly was the right one. Apparently they can't tell one show from the other.

I think you are a bit to negative on this.
There are a lot of articles in the internet about this. The problem is, that even if there are ppl doing VERY IMPORTANT agreements or talking about Firefly returning to TV, Internet, Mc Donalds....(I do not know)
Why would information seek out so that we would know about what is really going on.

There is the fanmade movie (Firefly Redemtion ...i think) coming out next year...

What I think is, that Firefly will return, I hope they find the right time so that they can still use their old crew.

I think that's a bit too optimistic. I don't know anything about the author of this article, but he doesn't seem to be in a position to make this happen. So, it's just speculation. Plus some of the speculation was based on Dollhouse's renewal for a second season. The ratings for Dollhouse have been awful. If that was part of Fox's reason to potentially bring back Firefly then they just got a very bad sign.

It would take a lot of work to get all the actors and actresses back together to start Firefly as a series again. I think at best we could get a mini-series/movie. Even then I would say it's far from likely at this point. Just my honest opinion.

I think that it is extremely conceivable that Firefly could return in some form. The "who, what, why, HOW, when", is another matter.

Formats, with less of a dedicated following, have been brought back to movies and TV.

The single biggest factor in favor of re-igniting, some form of the 'Verse, is Hollywood's trend to play things "safe", and not go totally "new" and "untried". The Firefly audience, both here and loyal, and constantly developing, is ready to embrace a Serenity rebirth- and the Verse, with all of its characters and locales, already exists. We have all already seen the "pilots", and given our thumbs up!

The main problem, to be solved allowing Serenity to fly again, is mostly the "How". What format/channel/screen could Firefly be reintroduced, and be given a chance to gain a new lease on life?

I have said before that I favor a short mini-series- of maybe 3 succesive evenings of two hour "episodes", airing on SYFY, for instance- much like the upcoming AMC remake presentation of the 60's cult TV show, "The Prisoner" (Cult? TV show? Remake? Old TV property? Airing in a sweeps month? hmmmmmm....)

Now I am not sure that Joss, Fox, NBC, or even AMC is seriously considering what we all hope for, but I do believe that the Firefly Verse will return someday- perhaps Joss's children, Buffy, Angel, and Malcolm will unite one day, and honor their father with a remake!

Newsflash - they are a business, not an arts-endowment organization. No, they don't really care about shows that loose money.

Funny that you complain about them cancelling Drive, Dollhouse and TSCC - even though you didn't watch. Well, guess what, that's why they got cancelled - very few were.

As to the main article - I still think bringing back the series is highly unlikely. but a set of TV movies would be feasible, even if the actors kept their current gigs.

Let Firefly be the new Coloumbo - a TV movie every other month would rock.

I did watch every episode of “Drive” that aired on that network and I watched the first two episodes of TSCC before I stopped. Get your facts in line before you start. Yes they are in the business to make money, so why are they considering it now? BECAUSE IT‘S BEEN MAKING MONEY! If it weren’t then there wouldn’t be this kind of post showing up here.

The actors are becoming more popular and bankable and their popularity has increased because of FF and the browncoats efforts to not give up.

As for as I know you’re probably a network executive yourself.

You were the one who said you didn't watch Dollhouse or TSCC. Sorry I left out Drive, I was going for an overall comment, not a point-for point. And, me not being psycic and all, I had no way of knowing you'd watched TSCC twice - especially after you said you didn't.

Mark is right. I'm sure we'd all be hosting huge shindigs and buying ten copies of any new DVDs if it happened and I'm sure there is a f*x or NBC intern lurking internet forums to report that fact, but this actual article doesn't mean much.

Lol..…

First you missed my post saying that I did watch “Drive”, then you say you aren’t going for a point by point discussion here, then in the very next sentence you do just that!!

So let me clear it up for you then I’m finished.

Yes, I did watch Drive, every one that the network aired.

Yes I did watch two episodes of TSCC, since the series ran for two seasons (or season and a half) it’s a pretty safe bet to say that I really didn’t watch it. I was unable to see the show every night it aired, also I began hearing cancellation rumors early on so I chose to discontinue watching. Did I clear that up?

No I have not watched any episodes of Dollhouse, same reasons same conclusion.

Nope not a psychic, maybe a psycho.

Silly, yes I am well known for being that way……

Peace…

I'm assuming that blog is by Fillion? If so, it shows part of his brain still "lives" in the 'verse, which means it's not dead, 'cuz we KNOW it still lives in Joss' brain, right?

Probably not, since the author of the post was named Nick C. If the author was, say, "Miles Arexion" or "Bill Pardy" you'd have to wonder.

However, as Nathan has shown quite obviously recently, he is one of Firefly's more outspoken fans.

As several have noted - a mini series is compatible with the other obligations and interests of the original ensemble. I find the return of a series less credible.

So? They're looking into making a bit of cashy money. What? We want peeps to return Firefly to television AND have them do so with no self-interest at heart, too? That seems asking a mite too much. I'd say, let them bring Firefly back first! And we'll worry about them making money off of it later... or, we won't worry about it at all.

bear with me a moment.........

I'm with Bytemite, well, sort of.........

Nathan appearing on Castle wearing his browncoat says a lot. Millions were watching. Ratings were quite good, so good in fact that it got a mention in the trades.

So, does this mean we'll get Firefly back? Not necessarily. But, and I'm thinking out loud here, what I think it could mean is that people have noticed. DVD sales, Castle numbers, browncoats being recruited on a daily basis........oh yeah, and there's that cashy-money thing too.

What the author and the article suggest is that the time is right, etc. Of course, time in H-wood is a very elusive thing, but, having said that, I'm going with the positive thing here - which brings me back to Nathan donning his Captain outfit on a major network TV show. I think it may have been more than a wink to us. A mini-series is not completely out of the question.

Let's hope so.

Ahhhhh yes, I'm painfully optomistic.

I could see it happening, what with everyone's success (especially Nathan's) and now 'V' - it's not such a stretch! Somewhere, some smart TV exec (now that's an oxymoron) will get it.

I'm just saying!

I would love to see Firefly as a TV series again. Honestly though I don't think it would ever happen. Unless some of the actors are able to work on two different TV shows.

Give me two more movies and I'm happy. :)

OLDGUY

What Would Mal do ?

I've always felt like I needed 3 solid seasons on my shelf to have satisfied my hunger for firefly.

guys listen.. I'm old enough to be all ya'lls father I'm sure.. I've held a high level global position, traveled the world, met and befriended folks for what I knew might be the only time I'd ever see them face to face and then waved g'bye at the airport having been richer for knowing them for even that short time..some so long ago it seems like I dreamed that I was there in a strange land, customs, languages, humor, etc.. I'm tellin ya...I miss my Firefly crew/cast in that same way..stupid? crazy?...it's the only show that has ever hit me that way..and I've rewatched my DVDs to the point where my wife worries about my sanity.
I don't haunt any other serenty forums, don't attend the conferences and have never dressed up as a tholian web monster or whatever...this series hit me deep in a way that none other has.
If I were a rich man I'd finance whatever it took to recreate the magic that occurs at various times in each of those episodes. and create anough footage to allow the thing to fully develop.
That said, I believe that Serenity did allow the stoy to be told in its completeness and I can let it rest with that...would I enjoy a sequel...oh heck yeah! would I enjoy a new TV effort...yes and there are many ways to write around the movie so that the series doesn't have to conflict...River's done her job?..fine..move her on to some sort of great navigator who can get them to other places in the unknown verse..Wash?..how bout something as tacky as a twin brother..would set up all sorts of tension and undercurrents for Zoe to deal with..and allow Alan to flex some cool acting..subtle differences between his old role and his brother...or..let River take us to another realm..where they uncover an Alliance conspiracy that includes cloning...ah..now we can bring back Wash..with some hiccups, memory issues or..some character "flaws"..make things really fun..
if the writers union is done striking and done resting on their reality TV asses.. I bet they can write some really interesting story lines.

bottom line.. I miss the folks that I once visited with...and I want em back!

I have hope that we will see our beloved BDH's on the screen once again, be it small or large and silvery. The fact that the Capt'n was wearin' a browncoat and making such a fuss is good...the fact that we have heard neither hide nor hair of the mythical Book comic series is good too...to me it means there are forces in the works that aim to misbehave

I have faith in the 'verse...she is a cruel mistress at times but she fills me with hope when I am down. I have to have hope for that is all that I can cling to in the dark night while waiting for the dawn. A new day will dawn and we Browncoats from all lands will greet that dawn with open arms and say welcome! We have missed you and we have kept the home fires burning!
