lol love the title.

I generally like my pizzas simple. Thick chewy crust, not that waffer-theen (spelling as pronounced in monty python) crap some pizza places have that has the consistency and taste of cardboard ><;; sauce, cheese, and a lot of pepperoni, nuthin' more.

However, down the street from my university's main campus there's this AWESOME pizza place that has some of the most unorthodox pizzas I've ever heard of (i.e. seafood casino. Normally I'd never think of putting seafood on a pizza, but this is AWESOME. white pizza of course, no sauce), and they just taste phenomenal *mouth waters*

Navy, you're the first person I've met who doesn't like pizza in any way, shape, or form. I find it interesting. *seconds NV's question*

I looooove me some thin crust pizza. And as you all know I hate red sauce on it. However... places that skimp on it are good. Like Sbarro pizza places. Give me a slice of their pepperoni pizza and a sprinkle of garlic powder and I'm all set.

A place near here called Pavones does that. Thin crust, lots of pepperoni and cheese and very little sauce. It's that yummy folding kind of pizza.

There is a place here called Pastabilities that has a tomato oil that makes you reach that level of food-gasm goodness. Its like God mixed olive oil but with the taste of tomatoes and garlic. I have no clue how they make it but they could pour it on pizza and I'd be a happy camper.

I know Navy doesn't like melted cheese, so that could be why he doesn't like pizza.

I wouldn't be able to go on in life without it.

Something else to ponder: My non-Italian friends don't use Parmesan cheese. Even when they make things like lasagna and baked ziti. My brother said the same of his friends.... whats up with that? Do you guys use it?

Well there are pizzas out there without cheese on them (pizza place mentioned in my above post makes an AWESOME "Greek Pizza." it has feta on it, but the feta's not melted. ok now I'm missing that place again ><;;) Or you could ask for a red pizza with no cheese if that's the case. Unless he's tried that and still doesn't like it...

Parmesan cheese is a must (but then I am part Italian.) However, the bf is zero-percent Italian and he loves parm cheese, so does his whole non-Italian family. I guess it depends on the people. Or the area maybe *vague shrug* dunno. What do they use instead?

The lil italian one is right NVG, tis the cheese mainly. Almost everywhere has cheese on everything. I guess I could order them without cheese, but over here it seems like pizza aint pizza without cheese. I get some horrible looks if I order without it.

When I was in italy though the pizza place I helped out in for a while had a whole bunch of cheeseless pizza on their regular menu... so I suppose it's not so weird. Those pizzas were fantastic I must admit, so... ok, I dont like conventional american style pizza the likes you might get from dominos or pizza hut and stuff.

as for the parmesan cheese, I know people that use it here. No one would think it unusual to do so.

I HATE chain store pizza! Especially Pizza Hut. I'm happy to be from an Italiany neighborhood with a pizza place everywhere.

I suppose cheeseless pizza doesn't seem like that much of a crime. If theres like a bruchetta (sp) veggie thing on it or something, that would be yummy. Maybe I will have to see if they have good pizza here now...

But yeah when I'm at my friends house I have to ask for parm, they don't use it. Crazies.

It's snowing here too, but bad. It's all dark and the wind is blowing and the snow is all "RAAAR IMA EAT YOUR CAR UP!!!"

Real Italian pizza, like many other old world dishes, are mostly a carb base with whatever is handy. Cheese is used sparingly like meat is used sparingly in real Chinese dishes. I thinks we may have to consult with MSA on a pizza specifically for ya Navy. Its good to have dishes with most of what one needs and lacking stuff one doesn't like. Parmesan cheese is so good for adding a deeper cheese flavor without adding gobs more melted cheese. Mmm.

Oh, and Mountain Dew Throwback is in my region for a limited time. It is Dew made with sugar rather than the normal corn syrup crap. Tastes like it did when I was little.

Yum freakin' yum!

If I get pizza from the store it's usually the digorno oven rising crust extra cheese style. Mmmmm american style bastardized pizza. Yummy

I realized I sort of contradicted myself with the hating chain store pizza but then liking sbarros. Eh I guess it depends on my mood. I stand by hating Pizza Hut thought.

There was no good pizza downstairs but I made myself a good salad. It had mixed greens and chicken and sunflower seeds and tomatoes.

I only ate light like that because later tonight there's cake and lasagna for my best friends birthday.

Oh! Msa. Can you please post that beanless chili recipe? I have a special folder at home on my computer with stuff you post. It always comes out so good!.

Parm user here. I will put it on pizza if there is no ranch available. :D

I put parm on most pastas...however, I don't really like pasta all that much. I think that has something to do with not liking the sauces very much. I can do without marinara and alfredo altogether. Carbonara is okay but I feel all bloaty and nasty after eating it. Putanesca is okay depending on how it's made. And then there is the fact that pasta is just a sh%t load of bland carbs which I don't really need.

That said, one of my favorite meals this summers was cold capellini with home grown tomatoes, some basil, some pepper, a dash of salt and some parm. SOOOOOO amazing. Relatively little cooking and HUGE tastiness.

I also put parm on green salads.

Parm is good.

Oh...and I'm not Italian. My uncle...who is German through and through is a big Parm user. Calls it stinky feet cheese. :D

Navy: I'm shocked about the cheese revelation. Is it just melty cheese or cheese altogether? One of my food credos is 'cheese makes anything taste better.' ;) so I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around a cheese hater. :D

LOL NV's probably thinking of the male/female pizza toppings 'cause when I order it it's lots of veg and grilled chicken and he's more of the meats and veg:)

Avery

1 pound ground beef ( 85/15 on the fat content)
1 pound ground pork
1 6 oz can crushed tomatos
1 can fire roasted tomatos chopped
1-2 serrano peppers ( remove seeds and chop fine)
3 cloves garlic chopped
2 jalepenos chopped
1 medium onion chopped fine
2 tbs chili powder
1 tbs crushed red pepper flakes
1 green, 1 red, and 1 yellow pepper chopped

In a large skilled brown the meat. Transfer meat to large stewpot and add oil to skillet. I
n oil add crushed red pepper flakes and garlic and let saute for 1-2 min. Add serrano, jalepeno,onion and other peppers and saute until they look a little wilted and soft. Dump the pepper mixture into the stew pot and add crushed and chopped tomatos ( drain the chopped tomatos first)Add chilli powder and salt ( about 3-4 tbs)Stir well and turn on stove to medium high. When it starts to bubble, turn heat down to low. Let simmer for at least 4-5 hours on a back burner until all the liquid is cooked off and the meat is super soft:) Enjoy

Ingredients
1 3/4 cup warm water
1 (1/4-ounce) package active dry yeast (recommended: RapidRise)
2 teaspoons salt
4 1/2 to 5 cups bread flour
3 tablespoons olive oil, plus more for bowl
Cornmeal, for pan
Directions
Preheat oven at 450 degrees F.

Measure out 1 3/4 cups warm water (it should be pleasantly warm on your wrist). Sprinkle the yeast on top of the water and allow it to activate, about 10 minutes.

Put the salt and 2 cups of the flour into a food processor or blender. Pulse 5 times to blend. Pour in the yeast and water and pulse 5 times. Add the olive oil. Add the remaining flour 1 cup at a time, pulsing and scraping the sides of the bowl until well blended. As soon as the mixture is combined, dump it out onto a well-floured board and knead for 15 turns, until the dough is smooth .

Place the dough in a greased bowl and turn to coat all sides. Cover with plastic wrap or a tea towel. Allow the dough to rise in a warm place for about 45 minutes, until doubled in size, then punch it down. Divide it in half; each half will make 1 (12-inch) pizza.

Place on a cornmeal-dusted pizza stone, pizza pan, or cookie sheet. Roll up edge slightly to create a ridge around the pizza. Bake for 16 to 18 minutes, or until crust is light brown.

But my hatred of Alfredo means there is more for you. It's too salty. I hate salt. If I put salt on something it's because it tastes bad. If I can taste salt in something, I won't eat it. I can taste the salt in Alfredo. It's also kind of bland, if you ask me.

And I might rather be dead that eat Chicken Alfredo: salty blandness that it is. It's so white and boring. ;)

BUT, I did support your Buffalo wings theory. Too much trouble for such a little reward. If it was Buffalo drumstricks or Buffalo boneless breasts. I might be able to support the consumption.

Yup that's it.. am happy for so many recipes( plus the new baby food recipes I got include some with zest...yes I will be making all Johnny's baby food I do not believe in giving babies yuck in a jar)

That way when I make stroganoff tonight( and I mean real stroganoff with beef tenderloin in sherry and shallott reduction with a tiny bit of sour cream to thicken not ground beef with globs of sour cream over egg noodles) I can make rosemary lemon potatos to go with and not have to try and zest on a grate.. YAY
I do feel badly that I only had time to make regular bread this week so it'll have to do. If I'd had time I'd make some nice french bread to go with.

Hehe. You guys are great.

I can handle the not liking marinara and alfredo. It hurts my heart to hear it but its okay. Roxy and I actually both make the same type of saue for our pasta. Its just a little butter and chopped garlic (sauteed of course). Easy peasy and fast.

The not liking pasta thing is hard for me to imagine. I think I could eat pasta every day and ever get sick of it.

But rugbug is my fellow ranch pizza person! So I'm in your corner!

I'm def a salt person. As opposed to a sweet tooth I have a salt tooth. Chips, pretzles, dips It's all good!

I can't wait to try the recipe! Thank you!!

Also, I don't cook. My oven has been on two times in 4 years. My stove? Maybe 10 times. :D Not that I can't cook. It's just a waste of time to me...and it leads to dishes. I HATE dishes.

Me too! Sweets just go to waste when their around my place. For instance I always buy candy on halloween just in case some kids decide to trick or treat at the apartments. I've yet to get a single trick or treater :-( So, I still have a half bag of mini-snickers from Halloween 08 in my desk at work. I have a few twix and a bunch of milky ways left from Halloween 09. That's how little sweets interest me.

It's usually healthier, cheaper and you can make stuff however you like it. It's so rare for me to actually go to a restaurant it's kinda scary. I don't even see much time convenience in restaurants unless I'm already out and they're on my way home or they deliver.

I just don't eat "meals". For example:

Today was:
Breakfast:
String Cheese
Tangerine
4 crackers with Peanut Butter
Water (blech)

Lunch:
Sandwich from my friend's lunch program (todays is turkey, provolone with lettuce and tomato on a whole wheat bagel)
Water (blech)

Dinner:
Raw veggies (snow peas, baby carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, cucumer and grape tomatoes) with some ranch dressing as needed (that cauliflower is hard to choke down on its own).

One Diet Coke with Lime throughout day and a about 1/2 Diet Caffeine free Coke at night...

There is also some dark chocolate involved in my day at some point. I LURVE sweets. Would eat them 24/7 if it wouldn't put me into a diabetic coma.

See...no cooking necessary.

Weekend evenings are for splurges. I usually get Taco Bell one night and something from one of out other local 'step above fast food' restaurants. One of my favorites is called "Cabo San Lucas" and is fresh Mexican and SOOOO delicious.

It's just melted cheese really. I'm not a massive fan of regular cheese, but now and again I'll be in the mood for some. I can eat non-melted cheese most of the time. That goes for real cheese and processed alike. All the fake rubbery cheese slices and the wee triangular wedges kids get... and cheese flavour crisps are sometimes alright too. But melted cheese... blech. Something about it I just abhor.

edit: I missed the whole salt/sweet discussion going on. I'm definitely a lover of my salty foods. Chips, crisps, pretzels and so on... but I also hae a very sweet tooth. I cant help it, I love both. I clearly just want to die young.

See this is why you make your own pesto Rugbug then you control the oil content:) Also you can use it as the pizza base:) ( veggie pesto pizza with smoked provolone is to die for)
Also sweety your menu has some nutrition holes and could result in major osteoporosis later.. you need more lean protein and whole grains big time

Cool ponder though... what is your menu for today??

Mine is
Breakfast- Greek yogurt ( nonfat) with organic granola and 1 tsp honey
Lunch - salad with 9 vegetables, homemade chicken soup, 2 tangerines
Dinner- Beef stroganoff, potatos, homemade bread, and green beans:)


Ok Pesto (which doesn't involve the stove or the oven and takes less than 3 minutes.. and you can dip veggies and bread into it:)

2 handsful basil leaves
2 cloves garlic
1/2 cup parmesan cheese
1/2 cup pine nuts ( can sub walnuts or almonds)
juice from one lemon
olive oil( or some olive oil some chicken broth)

Put leaves , garlic and lemon juice in blender. whir around until leaves mash up some. Throw in pinenuts and paremesan. Hit frappe and stream olive oil or broth/olive oil mixture ( 1 part oil to 2 parts broth) in until paste like consistency is achieved.. EAT:)

Not looking to blame anyone. ;) I've never done "meals" for the most part. I eat pieces of meals. And there is more than enough meat on my bones. :D

MsA: I'm not a big fan of the protein. I could do without it altogether. I know I need it, but it doesn't appeal to me very often. Well, there is one restaurant around here with to-die-for Filet Mignon...but even that I only want once in a blue moon.

I got me some protein = string cheese, peanut butter, turkey, provolone and the bagel.

Whole grains = whole wheat bagel

Sure there are holes...but it's not really that bad. ;)

Breakfast: Oatmeal with brown sugar, Orange Juice
Lunch: Ham sandwich on wheat bun, wheat thins, nutter butter cookies, lemonade
Dinner: I'm thinking refried beans & mozzarella cheese quesadilla or burrito or whatever you want to call it, corn, apple sauce, nacho doritos, Dr. Pepper

Not the healthiest menu, but plenty of salty yummy stuff in there.

So strange that pizza is such a topic right now. One of Milwaukee's landmarks, Pizzaman, has been destroyed in a "5" alarm fire that took out half a city block. Pizzaman was located on that corner for decades. I personally never ate there, but everyone says Pizzaman was the best. Not just pizzas, but Italian meals were on their menu. The owner is not sure if he will rebuild. It has been a week and they continue to redirect traffic to accomodate all the heavy equipement that is needed to clear the wreckage. Sad times for Milwaukee. Meanwhile they are still investigating the cause.

I like my, thin or thick, pizzas with sausage, mushrooms, and black olives.

here's a pizza recipe you may or may not appreciate, but the kids I worked with (at Afterschool care etc) loved it as an occasional treat...and it was good for whole group bribes etc (e.g. if you guys can be cooperative and respectful for a whole week, we'll have lolly pizza on Friday)
Rose's noxious but loved lolly pizza:
pizza base
base: nutella/chocolate spread/thick strawbwerry sauce/caramel topping.
marshmallows(chopped)
coloured snake jellies (chopped... I used the all natural ones)
chocolate sprinkles/hundreds and thousands)
pre cook the pizza base until lightly golden or mostly cooked, put on spread/topping add chopped snakes (fake vegies)then the marshmallows (fake cheese) and then put back in the oven until marshmallow melts slightly.
add the choc sprinkles or hundreds and thousands (pseudo seasoning) give each person a small slice...big slices = sugar overloads.

Oh NOES!!!! Fires destroying local landmarks are never fun :( There was a restaurant in my town that EVERYONE frequented (huge after-work gathering place/nice place to eat dinner/have drinks/etc.) that burned down a couple of years ago. I hadn't been to that side of town in ages so when I finally saw it I was like "HOLYWHAT????? WHEN DID THIS HAPPEN???" Fortunately they rebuilt it though ^_^

Boris: that truly sounds like something a kid would make if left to his/her own devices, lol. good bribe though.

My menu?

Breakfast: skip. Usually do because I'm just not hungry in the mornings. When I do find myself hungry it's either a banana and some toast, english muffin toasted with peanut butter, or bagel with cream cheese. This morning I'm skipping. Coffee only.
Lunch: hot pockets pizza (I usually eat healthier, but when I work at the base it's usually always something junky) and a salad.
Dinner: no clue. Mom implied she's making something for my dad's and Larry's (brother's gf's dad) birthdays, since we're all going up to visit my brother. I'd really like some sushi as there's an awesome sushi place near my brother's house, but I don't think it'll happen :(

fresh grated Parmesan on pasta, shaved Parmesan on salads, fresh Bocconcini on Pizza with basil and Tomato, Provolone cheese, the really bitey stuff on pizzas with anchovies and sundried tomato...mmmm Provolone, a wholesome good stinky cheese.
I think I've already asked, but have any of you ever tasted Panzerotti, Arancini or Scaciatta? the best Panzerotti I've ever had were in Milan, somewhere near the trainstation. My Mum makes the best scacciatta and Arancini, though Sicilian sidewalk vendors don't do a bad job either.

Breakfast: Honey bunches of oats cereal, orange juice (side note: I'm trying to get in to work early and not totally eliminate sleep so I decided to bring my breakfast and eat it at work. container choosen to transport milk apparently not air tight. eep!)
Lunch: Sweet & sour chicken (frozen meal), probably some triskets or something, lemonade
Dinner: Spaghetti, probably some frozen mixed veggies, apple sauce, I'm thinking sprite to drink

Zeek, have you ever seen Salute Your Shorts? Because in one episode they talked about a bad guy/ghost called Zeek the plumber that stalked kids and I see your and think of that.

Nope never seen it. The Zeek name came from a high school nickname. The course was computer science and the teacher was telling us some early history of computer programming. One of the significant figures was named Zeek and somehow people got confused and thought that was my last name. So, when they started calling me that I thought it was in reference to the programmer guy until they saw my real last name and brought it up. Anyway by that time the name stuck as a nickname. I have no idea if I'm spelling it correctly though.

As I guessed; the fire that destroyed Pizzaman was arson. I suspected that it was for insurance and that is probably where it will lead. This is serious, because the fire destroyed four businesses and eight apartments on the second floor of the building. A lot of people lost all they had in that fire.

About twenty years ago we had a realtor who burned his office for insurance. A paint store that shared the building went up like a roman candle and of course the fire spread. The realtor's car, a Corvette, was seen in the area just before the fire started in the middle of the night, so the police suspected him. His wife confronted him and when they argued he pushed her down a flight of stairs and she died. He claimed she fell. But the investigation closed in on him and he commited suicide. Once you begin commiting crimes you find yourself digging a hole you will never get out of. So he escaped being charged in the arson and his wife's death by taking his own life. That left his two adult children to pick up the pieces. Milwaukee gets its fair share. Jeffery Dahmer only tops the list. Even he was murdered in prison by another inmate.

Yikes! What a chain of events. I guess I can see that when people get desperate they start to lose it, but there are lines you just never cross.

Thanks. Sometimes it sucks but I also like that I have change every few months.

And I know this is an old topic but in a way I sort of wish I could eat like you rugbug, I wouldn't have to worry about packing on the pounds!

LOL Navy you're pretty much the only one I do custom recipes for ( well and my sis in law who is also a picky eater) but sure if you want a recipe ask and I will see what I can do

Boris if you are doing pizza for snacks with the littles make your own whoel wheat crusts( or use whole wheat pitas) and give each kid one and let them selec their own sauce, veggies, and low fat cheese and bake.. kids love it and it's reasonably nutritious ( you can get low fat pepperoni and turkey sausage )

Hey another few months and I will be inventing baby food recipes ( but I am pretty sure none of you need those) I refuse to feed Johnny that nasty stuff in the jars.
