Heh...I was all prepped to go to bed late on Monday night (saw one of my favorite bands downtown). I even took the first few hours of Tuesday off work. Turns out the band was an opener and only played 7 songs. I was home by 10:30 and in bed by 12. It still felt good to sleep in though.

Wednesday night, I was planning on a late night because my Netflix would be arriving and it was suppose to be Disc 1, Season 3 of Dexter. That's a good 4 hours of eps to watch in one night...starting at 8 earliest. I get all settled in and turns out the season order was backwards in my queue. I got Disc 4, the season finale, first. Grrrrrrr. So I really should've been in bed at a decent hour. Yeah right. I was still wide awake at 2...no chemical help. Sigh.

I mailed this disc back Thursday...and get home at lunch to another disc. I was all "holy cow!@ that was fast turn around!!!! Not. I forgot to pull off my flap and seal to send back. Disc 4 just came back to me. Sigh (but happy it made it back with the disc still inside). Now my Netflix schedule is all screwed up. (yes, I have a schedule...to max out my DVD usage to justify the cost. :D). Double grrrdy-grrr-grrr.

Seriously you guys. you need to be quiet in here. I'm having a hard time keeping up with the thread. :)

I'm going to babble since y'all are like crickets. Wind. Wind sucks. Ass. I hate it. It's been so freakin' windy here the past two weeks or so. I was at a show yesterday and it was miserable....cold wind and it made all the horses a little psycho. Then I we got home and I had to ride the other horse and it was even windier. Wind makes the bushes move. When the bushes move, the horses think there is a predator in them. Horses like to run away from predators...fast. Makes for fun times. Then I had to bed a new stall...6 wheelbarrows full of shavings shovelled, hauled, dumped and spread. Guess what the wind does to shavings? If you guessed blows them into your eye balls and makes them sting like nobody's bidness...you'd be right. Sigh. I hate the wind.

What part of mother nature do you hate?

when I was 8 I was at a friends farm...we were near the pigs and the farmer mentioned one of them was being fattened up for slaughter...the pig overheard us and started screamimg and going nuts...I was already a semi vegetarian (ie only meat I eat is fish/seafood...and occasionally reptiles and insects) but this incident really sealed it for me...no piggy will ever be served on my table.

A friend of mine and I were talking business over breakfast one day at a local restaurant. He said he was involved in a business deal, and he was pretty sure it was kinda shady. I told him to get out, and get out now, and don't look back. He said he couldn't; he was kinda committed, he claimed. So I asked him which it was - was he INVOLVED, or was he COMMITTED?

He asked what the difference was.

I pointed to my eggs. "The chicken was involved in this breakfast." Then, pointing at my bacon with my fork: "The motherfuckin' pig was COMMITTED, though."

He's still alive - the friend, I mean, not the pig (he really WAS committed to that breakfast!). And he's not in jail. So I guess he wasn't really all that committed. ;)

Speaking of bacon, I cooked up some thick-sliced bacon in the oven yesterday. Sprinkled some brown sugar on it, then some coarse-ground black pepper, cooked at 400º for 25 minutes. Yummers.

OK I'm hoping this is a lame ponder. Otherwise I'm a really strange person.

Lead in: On the radio this morning the morning show DJs were talking about how one of the 5 DJs has never gone on a date in her life and she's in her 20's. So, apparently earlier in the week the other female DJ took her out on the town and started talking to guys trying to find her a date. They ended up finding a guy who wouldn't tell them his age. He said he forgot and maybe it's 38 or 39 or 40. Anyway the guy's a chef for a hotel in town and invited her to come over to his place where he'd cook her dinner. She agreed and that will be her first date ever.

Ponder: Is it creepy for a guy to cook a girl dinner at his place on a first date?

I think it's at least a 5 out of 10 on the creepy scale. Especially in this situation where she literally just met the guy. If he's a really good friend of one of your really good friends then maaaaaaaybe. I know that it will probably go just fine and nothing bad will happen, but still if there's a 1% chance this guy is a psycho then 1 out of 100 times this will go very badly. For starters you're agreeing to eat whatever he gives you. He could have put anything in there!

Extra crazy is that this is her first date ever in her life. She's walking right into awkwardville. She didn't say anything on the show about what the plans are for after dinner. If she doesn't know then there's all sorts of room for awkward stuff to happen. I mean what if he just turns on some music, pours some wine and want's to sit on the couch and talk? Not really bad but when does that date end? Who goes *stretch* "well this has been great but get out/I gotta go"? If you're having a good time you don't want to send the wrong signal by saying you want to leave, but you gotta leave sometime right?

None of the other DJs had any problem with this first date plan btw. That's why I'm wondering if I'm nuts. I just see potential problems all over the place with this plan.

I don't think it's a definitely creepy situation all the time. But in the situation you mentioned, it's not the smartest of choices. A first date with someone who you really don't know should probably be like the stranger danger people always tell you... in public, folks should know where you're going and what you're up to. It's maybe different if it was perhaps a guy she's known for ages at work or something and they just started dating... but a random? That's a bit weird.

It is a pretty good ponder. I myself wouldn't go to a guys house I just met as a date. Friend of a friend, maybe. But not a random guy I just met.

On the other hand I always thought that would be a great date, a guy cooking an awesome meal just for us. But this was assuming I know he won't cook me into the meal.

As for plans after dinner, maybe they can go out. They don't have to stay inside his house the whole time. If they did she could just end it with "It's getting late..." Just as you would at a friends house.

But I have to agree, the setting is a little too intimate for a first date. Especially for the first dater ever.

Hmm well if there weren't the radio involvement I'd say differntly, but since a large number of people ( not sure how big the listening audience is) are aware of her location and the date, I don't think it's all that risky.
First date in general.. definitely a bit weird unless you've gotten to know each other for a bit first. IF you know someone before and then ask them to dinner it's fine though

And side note... men who cook dinner for women are far far more likely to get some:) Thought it should be noted
