In honor of the BDM, and all the gunfights I certainly hope are in it, here's the link to a site I found on the proper way to have one...

Far from hilarious, the comments there are stay-alive truths taught by some of the finest self-defense trainers in the country. I've been through Thunder Ranch & Lethal Force Institute, which are run by my friends Clint Smith and Mas Ayoob. They know whereof they speak. What you read on the gunfighting website is culled from many more things you learn if you go to school to learn how to shoot to defend your life.

There are a few rules of combat as touted by the great Hsun, one of the greatest warriors ever, who lived in ancient China. The most important two can be applied to gunfights as well: Never leave a living enemy behind you; and: Never underestimate the enemy.

I've always liked Judge Roy Bean's way of dealing with Bad Bob. He shot him in the back. He was accused of not giving Bad Bob a 'sporting chance.' Roy Bean said that he never had a chance, never did. If he wanted a chance, he should have gone somewhere else. Paul Newman Rocks.

A great collection, and very educational. I kept thinking of Firefly as I read the list.

Rules to live by.

Literally.

PEACE

Good list, chiefly applicable to the infantry. Since I was in armor years and years ago, I learned a few embellishments--

1. If possible, bring a tank to a gun-fight, hide behind a hill, and shoot the SOB at two thousand yards before he knows you're there.

2. Better yet, call in an artillery strike and let those *@#^@%!~! cannon-cockers do the dirty work.

2. Even better, call in an air-strike and let the Air Force earn their pay for once. Preferably with B-52's.

Combat (whether individual or between armies) is about making sure you and yours go home in one piece. Period.

Oh, bugger! Now I have to wait for someone to wake up!

Ayep.

Call in a Battery Five for prep to hold em in place, and lay in an Arclight - why bother chasing them down when you can OBLITERATE everything within a mile.

Sporting ? No.
Fair ? HELL No.
Effective ? HELL YES.

It's as simple as that.

Better yet, when confronted by someone who really wants a fight get them to fight with someone else.
