If you love sci-fi, Inception will not disappoint.
You may leave the theater scratching your head, you may be confused, perplexed and/or baffled, but you will not be bored. Go with a friend or family member who loves movies that challenge as well as entertain. You will thank me later.

Don't get me wrong, this movie is not perfect. There are a very few minor plot holes, but it takes you on a journey that few hollywood films these days can even dream to achieve. It is an intricate maze of complex approaches into the human psyche and attempts to throw you off balance. We are given a healthy serving of the Matrix flavored by Borne Identity type action. It is espionage mixed in with Memento logistics.

When we left the theater we discussed what we saw for nearly 2 hours, and yet I am still wondering if what was discussed made sense. It kind of reminded me of The Fountain, only not as perplexing. It is both familiar territory and uncharted waters. It asked some the same age-old questions, but created new ones. It has you thinking moment to moment along with the characters. In other words, you feel the experience.

I don't want to overhype this movie. Like I said before it's not perfect - but parts of it are brilliant. Look for strong performances from DiCaprio, Ellen Page and Joseph Gordon Leavitt (who should get an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting). This time Nolan should get a nod for Best Director as well. I need to see this movie again, once I process what I saw some 10 hours ago. Again, if you love sci-fi - go see for yourself. It is worth every penny.

Ok enjoyed it but not for simple minds. Dreamscape with Matrix twist. Added Borne ID and Tek Wars flavor. When it was raining you could see the blue skys and palm trees of LA. But hey it's a dream.

LWAVES

Absolutely brilliant movie that kept me going throughout the whole experience. Brilliantly acted and directed. Complex but not so much that you can't follow what's going on and will provide further rewards on repeated viewings.
Makes The Matrix look like a kids story and completely shats all over the sequels. Intelligent, action packed, funny in small parts, and thought provoking.

It was nice to see that Ellen Page and Marion Cotillard weren't just cast as token females and actually played major parts in the overall story.
The fight scenes were incredible especially knowing that Nolan used as little CGI as possible and instead went for revolving rooms.

As for what the film was about and how it played out then that's something I'm not ready to commit to yet. Obviously the broad message is live in reality not in dreams but there was so much more to it. I have a couple of decent theories and some other ideas floating around in my brainpan but I only saw it a few hours ago and it hasn't had time to settle yet.

This is probably gonna be my film of the year as I can't think of anything being released later this year that could beat it. A rare breed amongst the dredge of pointless remakes, dumb comedies, kiddie-fied action and non-scary horror movies.

Hey CL, that sci-fi blog post acts like a players scorecard, but the experience of this movie is far more complicated than that.

It was kinda like being on a roller coaster: you know you're on a ride, but where it goes you know not. But really good find though, I like it as just that: a scorecard or guide.

I suspect that come Oscar time you'll be seeing record noms behind this brilliant film. Mark my words.

For me, the Matrix is still among my top 5 sci-fi movies, but Inception has brought another dimension to the genre that will be unmatched for quite some time. Only time will tell, especially if he follows with a sequel (that may not happen though). Brilliantly crafted, Inception was 10 years in the making and it showed up on the screen - Bravo to the Nolan brothers, et al.

Come Oscar time look for records to be made. I would be completely surprised if it does not set new records, this film is THAT good. I will be going back in a few weeks to see it again, perhaps, upon second viewing, I hope to absorb more.

I agree 110% This will be the film of the year (and is for me, bar none). Joseph Gordon Leavitt should get a Best Supporting, as will Ellen Page, both were excellent in their roles. Roger Ebert said that it will never be duplicated, but I suspect there will be those who will try.

Another cool find CL. The thing is it gives nothing away. You have to see the film to know what it could possibly mean, and you may not know even after you've seen it ;-))

"Timeline" is correct. After seeing the film I still have many questions, and even more "theories" and wasn't that ending absolutely brilliant? Audience applauded in the show I went to see. It's not often that happens.

They don't make 'em like that anymore.

I saw the Matrix 3 times (once with my son, then my brother and then by myself) before I felt somewhat satisfied that I grasped the story - plus the fact that it was so cool. Times being what they are, I'll probably only see it a second time in the theater (my fav place to go to see a masterpiece) and then patiently wait for the DVD release.

The Dark Knight was one of the last movies to get me this excited about seeing a film in the theater, well (maybe Avatar) in recent times.

POSSIBLE SPOILERS:

I... I... I... dunno exactly what happened at the end. I see comments on movie websites saying pretty the same: any of three things may have happened, etc... the spinning totem was inconclusive since we cut before gravity would have taken or not taken effect.

Don't get me wrong, I really enjoyed the movie, the concept, the actors, the special effects (bending that Paris street alone was worth it), I was into it from the start.

That part with Cobb and Saito at the end, eye to eye... I was waiting for some kind of reveal and then the scene shifted and that's what left me feeling like I just missed something really friggin huge. I'm a big fan of the actor Ken Watanabe, but he was a little hard to understand at times. "Sheet, he just said the big thing and I missed it."

The bad guys can't shoot for shit in this film! Even the real ones.

Yeah, definitely another viewing or 5 is in order.

Hey Shiny. Good to see you again. I'm not sure I agree with your sentiment regarding the oscars... The film is certainly worthy of awards, but the Oscars are so biased, so steeped in tradition that I cannot see a film of this quality and style making an impact... But I could be wrong, I must admit I was surprised when Slumdog Millionaire received so many so who knows maybe things have changed.

Regardless - it is a wonderful film. Challenging and engaging with enough somniferous mythology to bind the whole thing within comprehension. Nolan is really making a name for himself. The fact he wrote, produced and directed this is remarkable! Lets hope his contemporaries step up to his level.

Oh and I totally agree with you regarding Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Also nods to Tom Hardy - he too was excellent.

Hey "Sleepy" I was waiting to hear from you, cause this one's right up your alley - Inception, to me, is a masterstroke for Nolan & Co., and yes I do feel ya' regarding the Academy.

Oftentimes they go shit-crazy and either nom some undeserving film or actor, or, they totally miss the boat and overlook some truly deserving film or actor (I'm talking in the major categories).

Join the club. I too was shocked that Slumdog took Best Picture, but then again look at the field: The Reader, Milk, Ben Button, Frost/Nixon (good films all, but Best Picture?). Ben Button had an interesting concept but it lacked "umph", it had no Wow Factor. The love story was muted by the gimmick of a man reversing in age. The rest were good stories, but also lacked the Wow.

Slumdog had a lot going for it. Good story (both in and outside the film), interesting technique, and timing. H-wood was ready for that underdog (no pun intended) little-engine-that-could, overcoming-all-obstacles kind of story. Sadly, you're probably right, the Academy may revert back to tradition and overlook obvious choices.
In 2008 they almost completely overlooked The Dark Knight (to me the best film of the year then) and handed the Best Picture to the "Rocky" of Bollywood in 2008 - Slumdog.

So far this year I don't see any film contending with Inception. But I could be wrong, it's been known to happen.

Yeah it will be interesting to see what takes the oscars this year... You may have a point about other contenders though, it has been a little thin. Still early days yet. Plenty of time for those 'Oscary' films to come out.

I think it's worth a look. I give it 3 1/2 stars out of 5. It's not a time waster as far as I'm concerned with some interesting performances.

I've found that too for myself. More and more I go for a particular actor (i.e. Nicholas Cage in KickAss) or a director (i.e. Chris Nolan, Inception) or that I happen to like the concept of a movie (i.e. The Hangover was HI-larious and I took a chance, along with my brother). So I get your meaning.
