So i finally got around to watching the pilot, and after my second viewing I am confident in saying that for once I agree with fox's choice to not air it. /shudder

The pilot lacked the energy that all the other eps have had, even the slow ones like MMR and OOG, and the music certinaly didn't help make even the action scenes exciting. That and it seemed to me that they were making a one hour show into two hours, a lot of the scenes were just a smidge too long. Part of the reason I loved OOG and the other eps (except for parts of bushwacked) is cause they know when to end a scene and keep moving.

The pilot was fun definatly fun to watch, after seeing the first 8 eps, but I am glad they choose to air Train Job first, the pilot wouldn't have gotten me half as excited about the show as The Train Job did.

I know that I will probably get flamed for this, if for no other reason than agreeing with fox, cause it seems that a lot of people really love the pilot. Dunno, maybe I missed something. The crap quality didn't help much either, can't wait for them to air it.

I agree that the pilot drags in places, but on the whole I found it to be much more entertaining than The Train Job. Job was all plot and action with barely any significant dialogue to give a good sense of the characters. Serenity(with just a smidge of trimming) has a very good balance of talk vs. action, plus some character defining moments that would have given a welcome jump start to our investment in the crew. The entire cast is present and the chemistry between them has only been matched by their chemistry in OoG.

Since Fox chose not to air "Serenity" until December, Joss Whedon has had a lot of time to tinker with it if he felt the need. Perhaps we'll be in for a few surprises when it finally does air.
