If you ladys are pissed I used the term "chick flick" I'm sorry, I mean no disrespect. BUT! As a buff stud muffin there are a couple of chick flicks I really enjoyed;

The Devil Wears Prada

Bend it like Beckham

Do you guys have any "chick flicks" to recomend? Do you ladys have any flicks you think us guys should see?

I think the one that was designed specifically for this purpose was Jerry MacGuire. "Here guys have some football".

my votes go to:
Serendipity (somewhat funny and daaaaaaaamn is Kate Beckinsale hot)
The Bachelor (another Rene Zelwigger sp? movie and it focuses a lot on the guy side of fear :-)
Father of the Bride (Steve Martin having a nervous breakdown and I thought the bride was super cute when I was a kid watching this)
When Harry Met Sally (classic and ya gotta love Meg Ryan)

Honorable Mention: Sleepless in Seattle (good not great...and Meg Ryan again)

*cough* *manly grunt* *spit* *adjust crotch* *scratch* *scratch* ok I feel better now

I had intentionally forgotten Juno until you brought it up. Damn you!

Two of my favorite films are what most guys would consider chick flicks, but I don't care.

Before Sunrise and Before Sunset, directed by Richard Linklater and starring Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy.

ETA: And another one I just posted about in the Emma Caulfield thread - TiMER.

Does Princess Bride count as a chick flick? That seems to be popular among the guys too.

What about Mean Girls? It has it's plain ole' funny moments "why are you white?"

You might like "She's the Man", which I despised from the title but was astonished to find that it drew me in and then I really liked it. Perhaps my favourite teen flick.

Groundhog day is the best romcom. And if you're up for something period, Pride & Prejudice (1995 BBC version) is fantastic, and the only television I can consistently rewatch and get lost in, besides Firefly.

It's not personal. It's just war.

Not a good movie IMO, but I'd watch it over and over for Rachel McAdams. I hope I didn't just get the BF in trouble by revealing why he puts up with it.

I kinda liked Message in a bottle. Kevin Costner, Robin Wright Penn and Paul Newman. Love story with a not happy ending.

And The Princess Bride is simply a good Fantasy story. I can watch it anytime. Just Like The Shawshank Redemption.

Absolutely agree about "Love, Actually", unfortunately can't watch it with my daughter in the house 'cause of the porno stand in people, who are hilarious. Will have to get it out when she goes back to school in a couple weeks...

Also liked "The Break Up"

The Proposal. I think it qualifies as a chick flick. and it's bloody funny.
As Much as I love James Garner, I can not sit through "the Notebook".It makes me want to scream and throw stuff. I hate when female friends of mine who know I hate it host a girls night in and that's the movie they pick. next time it happens I'm going to make them sit through a couple of episodes of Venture Bros or Harvey Birdman (i.e stuff i love and i know they can't stand).

Hey Beatupplenty sorry if I hit a raw spot. yours are good reasons to not want to rewatch the film. I thought the Doc was okay until I found out he was married. The guys I discusssed Waitress with didn't like the Doc because he led the waitress on...not only was he already married, but he was married to a good woman, who he was also decieving. Two guys I was talking with said the Doc and the hubby were spineless a-holes and deserved a flogging for treating their wives so badly.

hmmmm from my obsrvations I think people(men or women) who cheat do it for a variety of different reasons. e.g. sometimes they just have deceitful natures (i.e. they get off on the idea of cheating) which means they'll always do it sometimes they may be in a relationship with someone they truly do care for and then meet the person they believe they are meant to be with and they don't want to hurt anyone so they cheat...stupid though as the cheated upon person always finds out and is even more hurt...better to do it openly. I'm pretty sure I would not tolerate being cheated on regardless of the reason.

Strongly agree. I could barely sit through that one for our captain. It wasn't funny. The characters didn't seem realistic. The plot never did anything all that interesting. It just sort of plodded along. Don't really ever want to see that movie again.

Can't verify these are chick flicks, but they seem like they could be. Love stories anyhow.

Notebook.
Pay it Forward.
Atonement.
Forest Gump.
Phenomenon.
Michael.
Ghost.
Groundhog Day.
Sabrina (either one).
The Lover.
Color of Night.
Bend it Like Beckham.
High Fidelity.
The Sure Thing.
Be Kind Rewind.
Hero. (1992 with Geena Davis, Hoffman, Garcia, Cusack.)

In no particular order:

Phenomenon - can't go wrong with Kyra Sedgwick

Michael, Ghost & Dirty Dancin' - Travolta and Swayze make these choices cool for a guy to watch even though chicks are loving it. Swayze (RIP) can dance and kick ass; while Travolta is just plain smoooooth!

Groundhog Day - Andie McDowell again; reason enough to watch.

Bend it Like Beckham - I can't quite put my finger on it. Well, try this: anything sports related gets an automatic pass from us guys. I really like this film.

High Fidelity - Jack Black is definitely the best thing in this film.

The Ugly Truth - Yes, that's right with Gerard Butler who is HI-larious in this chick flick. Saw it on Amazon a couple months back (it was a special) and was pleasantly surprised. It derails and the wheels fall off in the third act, but otherwise not terrible (Butler is a hoot). Good chemistry with Hiegl, who is easy on the eyes.

As for Sleepless in Seattle - it gets a pass (for us guys to watch) because they mention the Dirty Dozen in the middle of the flick. Good call Zeek. ;-)

WHMS - To me Crystal makes this movie work. Ryan, of course, is cute.

Jerry MacGuire - Sports rule again ("Here guys have some football".) and who could forget Gooding's Oscar winning perf.

Underworld - Vampire-sci-fi-love story, but the guys get guns, action and Kate Beckinsale in a leather outfit that makes Buffy look like a schoolgirl. "I'll buy that for a dollar!"
Makes my heart go pitty-pat.

*cough* *manly grunt* *spit* *adjust crotch* *scratch* *scratch* ok I feel better now - hahahahahahaha - LMAO, good one Zeek.

Thought of another one with some potential.

Garden State - I really can't put my finger on why I like the movie so much. The plot doesn't really go anywhere. It just feels real somehow. Plus Natalie Portman is awesome in it. I would be all over her character if I met a girl like that.

____________________________________________________________________

Good point! The movie does kind of meanders about. I could watch Portman read the paper and be shit-happy.

I recently re-watched The Professional, her first role, and I'm still amazed that she was THAT good at such a young age. I mean, the scene in the restaurant with Leon celebrating their first 'job' was all kinds of awesome. To have that kind of range at 13 y.o. is remarkable.

There's V for Vendetta, without question a solid film, but I have yet to see 'Closer.'
---------------------------------------------------------------

Here's another one to watch out for in future roles - Chloe Moretz (the little girl in KickAss). She was cast to be in the remake of Let The Right One In. I think she will be the next Portman.
