Hi all. After a decent couple years of being mental about the series and the movie, decided to drop few words from myself.
First of all: This is madness, how many times one person can watch the same movie and TV series on DVD? I'm glad my wifie has the same feelings about Serenity, otherwise it would be really messy here from time to time.
Second of all: We just couldn't bare the burden of Serenity being a fiction, and fiction only, as it represents a certain way of life. So with a bit of imagination, planning and some expenses... we actually bought our own Serenity.
She's not actually a Firefly, she's a Tomahawk Class, and 25feet long only, but proudly bares the meaningful name "Serenity", painted on the sign we all know very well.
Now during the winter our Serenity will spend sometime in docks, being renewed and prepared for the purpose she's been designed for. Next summer we sail off. Well, limited to two dimensional space of seas an oceans, but still able to experience the adventure of sailing on Serenity. During next couple of years, she's about to circumnavigate the globe, and be our only home for that time. The website is in the process of creation, where we'll keep putting all the stories... Here is the picture taken few weeks ago:

And third of all:
There is a team working on a open source space simulation, that involves missions, quests, trading, smuggling etc. They've also created two additional games based on their engine: Startrek and Privateer. With a proper leverage and approach, I'm sure they may be interested in creating a virtual Serenity world. I'm sure there would be a large amount of fans ready to support that kind of project, like me for example.
This is how to find and contact them:

http://vegastrike.sourceforge.net/

I believe when the movie died, this actually could be a way of bringing Serenity to life, by creating a virtual world (who knows, maybe even multiplayer online). I'd gladly support that kind of project, financially and any other possible/necessary way, and I believe there are many people that would do so as well...
Will keep you all posted about sailing on "Serenity"...

Looks nice! I took this shot while getting off of a cruise ship in Key West, but yours looks much nicer with the artwork, besides being a much nicer boat!

She'll be repainted, and renewed during the winter - still thinking about colors - "genuine" grey color may actually be too depressing, so probably she'll get red hull with white deck. I really miss "side thrusters" in this one though

Hah! That's pretty snazzy.

So when you circumnavigate the globe, would you mind causing a ruckus while doing it? You know, get caught by pirates or find some sort of underwater city.

That way awareness of Serenity/Firefly will be raised and we might see some more ^_^

As far as stories of other low-budget circumnavigators go, all this is involved. Pirates - they are a serious threat... there is also endless search for income, that involves passengers and different sorts of jobs on the way... No worries, when sailing is involved, always plenty stories to tell...

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Welcome to the board Tarsus. Good to have you posting with us and joining the ranks of the browncoats.

Nice lookin' boat!

Got to say the ocean may be two dimensional, but it has a beauty and call all her own, and not totally disimilar to that I imagine space holds. I stood on the deck of a cruise ship in January, near the bow of the ship, in an area that was dark looking up at the stars one night with only the sound of the wind and the waves around me. Looking out at the stars, with no visible light or land around me I could almost imagine I was in space and I have to say it was a pretty marvelous feeling, one I will carry with me always.

It's a beauty of a boat and great recognizing your dream.

As for colors, may I suggest looking no further than the Serenity logo? All those lovely deep russets, golds, high-lighted with b and w. Keep us posted with pictures.

She definitely looks "yar" cap'n.

Gives "old" meaning to the word - boat.

Please, by all means, keep us posted as to her journey......that name means a lot.

Thank you, I will. Now is the dry-dock time, she's been through a lot recently, as previous owner didn't understand "...what keeps her in the air..."
I'll keep posting info and pictures with progress. "Serenity" should be ready within a couple months, and we plan to move aboard early spring, and get another crewman before sailing off.

PS: Yesterday we finished watching Firefly/Serenity again... It's just unbearable. I'll never understand how come it's not being continued. It's one of the best stories ever, with enormous impact on people. My sis in law just watched it for the first time, and at the end she went furious saying "It can't be the end of it... lets watch it again..."
We're not crazy, and we have good sense of reality. But reality is quite boring I must say so we'll just alter our lifes and sail off on "Serenity" ...
Seems a bit unreal and romantic - but doable, and "...no power in the verse can stop me..."

Great idea - what fun.

I'd like to suggest that you rig some speakers on the deck and play the soundtrack while you leave the dock on day 1, and any time you need some inspiration, or just whenever.

Best of luck!

Freedom is Important because People are Important

Hello,

Nice boat. Looks like she uses wind power.

I guess they can't take the sky from you. :-)
