A while back there was a really great thread ( http://www.fireflyfans.net/thread.asp?b=2&t=4261) asking "What 'inside jokes' for current fans would you like to see in the movie?".

The responses were really great and funny to think about.

I think all of the responses centered around stuff that Joss would write into the script though .. the kind of "official" inside joke.

With Serenity making it into the Battlestar Galactica verse, I got to thinking.... what inside production jokes could be pulled off by the production or post-production staff before anyone noticed? And which ones would you like to see?

I'll kick off this discussion with one that I've thought might be funny.

In one of the shots of the core planets we'd see a cityscape (kinda like Persephone)... hovercars, lots of ships coming and going, futuristic skyscrapers and complex roadways. If you look really carefully you'll see a sign above one of the roadways at an exit ramp with an arrow pointing to "Yosaf Bridge".

What would cause you to crack up hysterically in the theatre? (while everyone slowly turns their head and stares wide-eyed)

Now, how's about we get on with this increasingly eerie-ass day

I would personally like to see the "Good Dogs" sign again. Or maybe a Battlestar Galactica fighter ship put in.

Recall the bit in the opening shots for "The 'A' Team" where Dirk Benedict is at a theme park and does a double take when a Cylon walks past?

Okay, now let Mal do the same bit in the movie. I mean talk about obscure! What's worse, of course, is WAY too many of us would "get it", I suspect...

clothing - and if we're very, very lucky, they'll do it in that order.

By the way, I wanted to comment on your login name. It demonstrates that you are obviously a mensch, keenly observant, a seeker after freedom and individuality. All that kind of stuff...

And you sir, strike me as an urbane and literate sort. Ah.... us intelligent types seem to have this thread to ourselves.

Okay, I'll play

I'd love to see Wash relate an amusing anecdote about his uncle Jerry Lee, who everyone mistakes him for, and his geese farm.

Important people don't do field work.

I would like to see Nathan Fillion do a double take when he walked past Two Guys, and a Girl standing in front of a Pizza Place. That would be kinda obscure. Plus, if they could get Traylor Howard to do it, that'd be ggggrrrrreeeeeat. She's so hot. Or Wash getting hit with a Dodgeball would be good...Especially if he went "Gar! Serenity be the only place for Steve....uh Wash!" Or Barney Miller pointing at Book and saying "I know you!" Or Laurence Fishburne walking past Zoe and smacking her on the ass while saying "Free your mind"...etc, You get the idea. Actually, I'm ashamed that I even took the time to write all that down.

I'm sorry. I'll go beat myself now.

Kaylee: "What's so damn important about being proper? It don't mean nothing out here in the black."
Simon: "It means more out here. It's all I have..."

Don't know who'd do this, production staff, set dressers, Joss, but there's a storefront the BDH pass that's a game store with a big display of bouncy balls that look just like River's one from OiS. Or any subtle reference/similarity in ship design or something with Starship Troopers, a call back to the alliance helmets. :)

It would be great if they were being chased by the allience for some crime or other, and Mal does a double take saying 'dang!! for a gorram minute there I thought the starship troopers we're chasing us!!!'

How about Jayne would say "I won't be in my/your bunk" or "I like being in my bunk" or "My bunk is my castle" or something like that, just a short silly sentence which immediately reminds us on his famous one in War Stories.
Or something like his "don't kiss on the mouth"-thing. Like "I hate mouthes." or something which doesn't make sense except for Jayne...
Don't know... Sorry.

Time for some thrilling heroics.

I for one would like to see some geese being juggled.

Jayne: "Know what the chain of command is? It's the chain I beat you with till you understand who's in command."

LAILING

There's a thread on the official Serenity site about scripted inside jokes that fans would like to see (consensus being someone should sing or hum "Hero of Canton" or there should be plastic dinosaurs. There are many other ideas, but those are the ones everyone agrees on).
As for "unscripted" inside jokes, love the "Yosaf Bridge" one. Also a fly-by by a ship from...well, pretty much any sci-fi series or movies.
Hmm...how about a deactivated lightsabre for sale or sitting on a table or something. A recruiting poster for the Empire on an alley wall? A piece of Mandalorian armor somewhere?

I would like to see Serenity persued by bandits of some sort. Wash would then say, "We be set upon by pirates, Captain. ARRRG!"

We got you partially surrounded.

Wash should be seen reading classic science fiction. Put an alien on the cover, even.

Zoe: "We live in a spaceship, dear."

Funny how someone mentioned 'The A-Team'. I have always thought that 'The A-Team' influenced Joss & Co. in writing Ariel, Heart of Gold, Trash and War Stories. I love 'The A-Team' and I was jumping for joy when watching those three episodes.

A-Team similiarities:

Ariel - Wash and Kaylee picking parts and building the Medvac ship while the Simon, Zoe, Mal and Jayne work on bluffing and disguises

Heart of Gold - Going in to help out the helpless for little in return (or bartar for services in return)

Trash - The planning and executing the jon

War Stories - The planning of getting back Mal (weapons check, teamwork, etc). One of my most fav scenes is when Wash gets up from being helped back to the shuttle and saying "The bastard is not going to get days!". He then proceeds to pilot the shuttle back to Serenity. For all the funny man that Wash is made out to be, he can mean business when his back is against the wall.

I can't believe no one asked for a Giesha for sale in a window... ? To obvious?

America loves a winner!

A 'dead bessy' reference would not go amiss.

I like the idea of juggling geese (gosslings). Reminds me of Steve Martin in The Jerk and the cat juggling home movie. Hi-larious.

Clearly, the *kiss* theme has already been done once in OMR, but it would still be funny to bring that up again.

Someone, perhaps a newly graduated med student, singing on a statue...naked

Instead of 'air' through the engine, Mal could make a comment like ' Crow' though the engine.....

" They don't like it when you shoot at 'em. I worked that out myself. "

I love the Yosaf Bridge thing. seeing the Han in carbonite in Kaylee's engine room again (as in 'The Message'). Disembarking from Serenity and walking past a crowd watching someone juggle geese, also a great idea. I see Zoe giving Wash a look that says "I didn't beleive you." and him responding "I told you so." shruging and walking away. Also would love to see a few cases in a store front of the Wobbly headed Gaiesha dolls with a "on Sale, Cheap" sign. Jayne's hat!
I'm sure Joss will have a few inside chuckles.
