The WB just cancelled BIRDS OF PREY. I guess we should appreciate even the two episode reprive that FIREFLY received from FOX and hope that it gives the show a chance to find it's niche. At least Fox is giving the show a chance. If it were on WB, it would probably be gone already.

I wasn't a huge fan of BoP, but I thought it had a chance to become pretty good over time. I'm surprised the WB gave it such a quick hook.

Yeah, I've gotta say I'm surprised at the quick hook as well...I thought that they would give a companion show to Smallville more time. It must've been really expensive to produce....

I had high hopes for BoP but am unsaddened by its demise.

If the future of DC comics-to-TV projects is nothing more than Dawson's Creek with spin kicks and wire work, there'll be a lot of quick cancellations like this. I was turned off by almost every aspect of BoP: the writing, directing, acting... Some of the story IDEAS were actually good but very poorly executed. I just never sensed anyone involved new what to do with these characters and the overall premise. Plus, every episode wrapped with five minutes of touchy/feely "the moral of this story" crap that just bugged. The overly licensed pop music soundtrack grated on me as well.

Productions based on Marvel comics seem to be getting much better translations that do not betray the spirit of the source material. WB/DC should pay attention.

HOWEVER... Firefly Fox Wednesdays sounds better than ever now! Move Fastlane to Friday nights before John Doe.

The problem with all the non-Whedon WB shows I've ever seen is that they will stick in any old song just because it is popular, whether or not it fits with the scene. That and they'll blare it so loud, that you have a hard time following whats going on the the scene. I liked Roswell, and kept with it till the bitter end, but the way they handled their music really, really bugged me. But, that show got me hooked on Sense Field, so the Karmatic forces balance out a bit.

I liked it and am going to miss it. The relationships in BoP were just starting to go deeper. Well, atleast they killed it before I got to love it.

With Birds of Prey cancellation, maybe Fox will move Firefly to that timeslot?

I doubt. That's Fastlane's timeslot on FOX.

No I haven't heard of it, but I think I will look it up sometime. [br] Does anyone know how many eps of BoP are going to be shown? Fox is still showing previews for the next ep.

Where Firefly is a show that keeps getting better and richer with each new episode, BoP is (was) a show where the quality/consistency and almost every aspect of the talent involved got worse with each new episode.

This week's episode "Split" with guest character DarkStrike was yet another episode where the flaws screamed out at you while you watched.
(Is DarkStrike even a real character from the comics? I've never heard of him). Anyway, these are supposed to be heroes with secret identities, yet none of them where masks. Never understood that. I think BoP's fatal flaw was that it never fully commited to being based on a comic book and instead tried to ape Mutant X and Smallvile (better shows than BoP, but nowhere near as good as Firefly).

The most interesting thing about BoP was the introduction with the Burton-esque Batman/Catwoman/Joker footage. I kept hoping the show would live up to this intro snippet, but it never did.

I thought BoP was entertaining but the writing was pretty bad.

However, I figured that we've been spoiled by Mutant Enemy's writing since BoP's writing wasn't worse than most of the crap out on the networks.

I was a bit surprised by the quick hook.
