What do you think is the success rate for Friefly Fans compared to Mormons..or any other religion...Would there ever be two old people walking up to your house and asked if you have found Joss..them show them a episode???won't that be cool

I am a recent convert, thanks to my flatmate. I whole-hearted approve the movie and any other opportunity to see Serenity in action!

See that's funny, cause I was just telling a friend that, forget Islam and Mormonism, Firefly is the fastest growing religion.

It's true. do you know of anybody who saw the show and didn't become a true fan? I don't. And I've seen many people watch this show (hihi, I have a secret base where I force them to watch it till they admit it's awesome...)

SIKKUKUT

I know one person who saw it as a result of me and didn't get into it at all. She's into sci-fi, but she said this was "too cowboy." She watched Serenity and Train Job, which has been enough to get everyone else absolutely hooked, but simply couldn't handle them getting off their spaceship, riding horses around, and shooting guns. Couldn't take it. I think the music may also have been a factor; I know another person who had to overcome her knee-jerk revulsion for "twang" before she could enjoy the show.

But seriously, "too cowboy?" Obviously she just... didn't get it. To say that the show would have been better without all the cowboy stuff is like saying Guys and Dolls would be better without all that goofy singing.

Now, this failure comes up against 23 confirmed successes, resulting in three DVD sets bought. That's a fine success rate, certainly. That said, does anybody else have a failure story?

The music?!?!?! Horses, fine. Shooting guns, OK. But the music?! It's like one of the best things in Firefly. The music is so much better than you would expect from a sci-fi show, or a TV show that has nothing to do with music, for that matter.
Anyway, 1 fail against 23 converted... I'd say it's pretty good :-P

BOMBA

I hate to say it but I've failed miserably in signing up converts .... only 1 out of 3
My sister was an instant convert but she was a big Jos fan anyway. Of the other two potentials one's only comment after showing the pilot was a Mal like "Huh" and then asked if I had any Andromeda to watch instead (he's also a huge Charmed, Chuck Norris, Scooby Doo Movie, DBZ fan so maybe was a lost cause anyway). The other said "that it was too dark". Yes, Too Dark ! As in brightness not atmosphere. A pretty lame excuse if you ask me, he was more of a sports nut than a sci-fi or Buffy/Angel fan anyway ...
I plan to make up for it by showing the pilot at our next video night in front of a large group ...

My TV is infront of the window, so the setting sun shines just above the TV, witch makes it very hard to watch the "dark" scenes, because the sun "blinds" my eyes. He should have watched it at later night IMO :)

GRAKSTAR

I showed the show to my ex, who is into rather random sci-fi, he likes star trek, but also Lex?? - so I wasn't sure how he'd take it, he really didn't like Buffy, and felt only mildly better about Angel, so wasn't holding my breath for FF, but he loved it!!

The special effects, the vooms, kaylee (or as he put it ' the mechanics cute!') the noise the gun makes when it loads, everything, he really really enjoyed it!!

I was so pleased to convert him, after years of buffy bashing!!!

DANFAN

I've converted two good friends and a nephew (resulting in one DVD box set sale). All three are ready to go to the movie when it comes out. I have a co-worker signed up to watch the first DVD and see if he wants in on the rest of the boxed set. I've been trying to figure out how to get another close friend to give my boxed set a look, but she's been too busy lately... something about a newborn baby at her house. Sheesh, some people have no sense of priority...

The show really sells itself.

The sun is riz, the sun is set...
And here I is in Texas yet.

I've also failed at getting converts. I can't even get anyone to watch it once. I just get "how about another time?" or "we'll have to watch that one day" or "I'm not really into sci-fi." The wierdest part is that Buffy/Angel fans resist the most.

I figure I'll just wait for the movie. It'll be easier for me to conduct my conversions then since it opens the day before my b-day! It's the perfect way to celebrate (and to coerce everyone I know into going to see it with me! )

RANGRBOB

I've only had a problem converting one person. He liked it but not enough to care wether or not he sees it again. However, everyone else who I've shown it to loves it and I have directly or through my other coverts hooked about 10 people now.
