I'll be interested to see how the Coen brothers work this one. It could be really, really good, or really, really mediocre...

Kinda disturbed by the image of you in a theater for like 24 hours giggling madly at the screen ( mind you this is just where my head went when you said you were spending Christmas watching this)

Hey, if it's really, really good I may see it twice in one day. I don't know about the giggling though.

The Coens aren't exactly known for mediocre, thankfully.

No, but they've had one or two. Something with Clooney and Zeta-Jones... "Ladykillers"... "Hudsucker Proxy" was a li'l bit "mehhh"...

I really love some of their stuff, and once in a while they'll just clunk for me.

Overall, though, given their track record, I expect True Grit to be pretty freakin' sweet.

No, add to that the fact that they have always wanted to do a western(their favorite genre). I think this is going to be epic in many ways. If it isn't my favorite film of the year I will be surprised.
Movies from them I thought were going to be good that turned out to be great:

-Miller's Crossing

-Fargo

-No Country For Old Men

-Raising Arizona(The first film I watched of theirs, and have been a fan ever since)

LWAVES

I'm very interested in this as I am a big Coens fan and have all their films (except A Serious Man - Xmas I hope). I like all of them to varying degrees but I can't ever seem to get into Blood Simple. I know this is the film that gave them their start but it does nothing for me. Intolerable Cruelty is pretty poor by their standards as well.
Fargo is my fave but I'm also partial to O'Brother, No Country, Big Lebowski and Millers Crossing. I also like Hudsucker Proxy as it has a certain charm to it despite most folks thinking there's not much to it.

As for True Grit I've never seen the original and probably never will because I can't stand John Wayne. I know some might consider it sacrilege but the guy just couldn't act, he couldn't be anything but the same basic character in a different situation. I never got what the fuss was over him but I guess it was a case of right place, right time.
So I'm looking forward to this remake as I'll finally get to see the film and I know the cast can act.
