I haven't been here for a time, so I don't know if anyone has posted anything on this movie; so here it goes.

Aronofsky's Black Swan reminded me of a very adult super freaky Twilight Zone episode. There were some minor flaws in this (such as the main character development, but perhaps that was his intention), but the tension was palpable and relentless.

I don't think it was his best work (it's a toss-up between Requiem and The Fountain, IMHO), but it ranks high. Natalie Portman was absolutely riveting in her tortured performance as the title character, and Mila Kunis is painstakingly (and brilliantly I might add) building a solid foundation to her film career. In this film she is every bit the equal of Portman and nearly steals each scene from her co-star. I have been impressed with her film and role selection over the last couple of years since Forgetting Sarah Marshall.

Whoever is guiding her career is doing an excellent job of picking roles and movies showcasing her obviously strong talents. She has shared the screen with some rather awesomely talented actors and has held her own and then some. Within the next year or so you will hear of her starring in lead roles, and I dare say it won't be in the obvious Rom-Com genre popular with young starlets. I believe she will follow somewhat in the footsteps of the aforementioned Ms. Portman and pick interesting and challenging roles that will stretch her range. She will be in demand within 2-3 years (that means A-list).

Black Swan blows anything currently playing out of the water. It is suspenseful, sexual and funny. Aronofsky's attention to detail will have your head spinning, but in a positive way. This is a must see, in the theatre or as a rental.

Hey Shiny.

How you been? Always good to see a post from you.
What can I say though. I'm afraid Aronofsky rubs me up the wrong way. He's just one of those directors who I just don't gel with. Y'know it happens right. It's since Requiem for a Dream. I'm sorry to mention it, but in the spirit of open debate I thought I'd point it out...

However I like your review of the actors and it's encouraging that to you Kunis stands out next to Portman; whom we all know can act (Star Wars notwithstanding). To give Aronfsky his credit he does seem to manage his actors well and his films aren't short of great performances. I'm just not a fan.

Hey guys.

Nice review of a film I will be watching.

Like Som I can't stand Aronofsky as Requiem really put me off his work. But the acting talent here is worth taking the chance for.
I think Natalie Portman pretty much always turns in an at least good performance, if not better. And Mila Kunis is someone I have been wanting to break into the big time for a long while now, she's certainly put the work in. But it seems that she has only been offered (or picked) the usual rom-coms and comedies. But, like Natalie, she always puts in a good performance and is very often the best thing about the film. But with her more recent roles she's acting with folks that get attention and thereby bring attention to her. As you say hopefully this will lead to better roles that can show off her talent.

Looking forward to seeing Black Swan now.

I have heard of it, and well not seen it, but why did they not choose Summer for that role, she did use to be a ballet dancer :-)

sorry if it had been asked before

On IMDB it says that Natalie had ballet training for about 9 years and that Mila had some experience as a dancer so it's not like they were going in and just using doubles all the time.
This would have been a great role for Summer but unfortunately for her (and us) she just doesn't have the star power outside of the sci-fi genre. We all know the potential that she has but this was just too big a project for her to be picked. She needs a couple of big hits either on TV or the cinema so that the Hollywoody types notice her more and she gets offered a better variety of roles. It's sad but it's the way things are.

I've been waiting forever for Black Swan to come out and it was well worth the wait. I didn't realize it was the same director who did Requiem for A Dream.

I'm a Paula Abdul when it comes to movie. I generally don't think movies are bad and most of them fall under the good category.

I've seen a LOT of movies this past month (thanks to my sister who gets me into movies for free) and I think Black Swan has been the best one so far followed closely by Tron 3D.

I think Natalie Portman did a fantastic job with this role along with Mila Kunis. I've followed Natalie Portman for years and this role has shown how much she has matured and how talented she is. The character she plays is fascinating and I felt like she kept drawing me in.

Maybe it's because I enjoy dancing or that I enjoy that type of genre of film but I think Black Swan is worth seeing.
