I am just guessing here that Jayne got around to stealing Mr. Universe's sexbot at the end of the BDM. Just seems like a terrible thing to waste, and such.

That would be funny to see her in the sequel.

That idea had never occured to me but now that it's in my head I think it is exactly what Jayne would do.

WISHIMAY

I remember this question being asked years ago.

The commom sense people think she woulda been "re-bushed" (I think was the phrase that was used) and sold. It is justa robot after all.

The romantics think she woulda been turned off and disposed of with Mr. Universe. He was an unofficial member of "The Crew" (posthumously) and that was his "woman".

The comedians I think would like to see Jayne get her and the hi-larious hijinks that would ensue. I think even the Shepard would be on board with that one...At least he wouln't be spreading DNA...

The techies thought she woulda been boobie trapped so no one else could use her. They don't call him "Mr. Universe" for nuthin', right??

I've recently had this notion that she'd have a permanent seat at the dinner table. Maybe a few interfaces and upgrades here and there, and who knows where you could go with that story...

I can't see Mal or Zoe thinking too highly of sex bot being so openly displayed on board.

It'd be one thing for Jayne to have his own, kept in this bunk, but to make the "ex" Mrs Universe a part of the crew ? To be Jayne's play thing?

No ruttin' way.

Besides, what claim would Jayne have on the bot anyways ?

I'd have to think that Mr. Universe would have all sorts of crafty little safety features which would render her useless, for what Jayne would have in mind.

Even if he ...well, of course HE would. He's Jayne.

Hey! That's a brilliant notion! I can see where she could be...well, handy! He could stow her with Vera and the rest of the arsenal behind his bunk! haha ...periodically field strip and clean her along with the rest of his toys. haha She would have to be more fun than "I'll be in my bunk" Rosey. ;)

I wonder, does this mechanical piece of wonderful have a name? He could call her Kaylee! hahaha ...(now that all the girls here have just launched their lunch).

Poor Jayne. He is SO misunderstood.

I think it's humorous that you seem so scandalized by the idea of Jayne taking possession of Love-bot. After all, I get the impression Mr. Universe didn't marry Love-bot in order to have a handy Pinochle partner! haha I don't find the idea of Jayne sexing-up a doll any more distasteful than Mr. Universe doing so. Well, actually I really don't want to think long about either situation. haha

As far as having a right to take Love-bot, Jayne is a professional thief! He takes other people's things for a living! Besides, it's not like Mr. Universe is going to miss her. Just think of it as "pulling illegal salvage!" haha Besides, if Jayne doesn't grab her the Alliance soldiers would! Now that is an even uglier thought than Jayne. Am I right?

Women need to understand, if the truth were known, there isn't a man walkin' who wouldn't have a love-bot in his closet if he could. hahaha

A few things.

"I'm" not the one scandalized, but from what I've seen of Mal and Zoe... it seems that they'd have something to say.

And if Jayne wants to bring 'another' bot in, that'd be one thing, but not Mr U's. Lenore meant something to him, and he being their friend, or acquaintance at the very least... it just doesn't seem as if they'd go for that sort of thing.. They DID bury him, after all.

As for Jayne, he may not care, one way or another. Or he may have reservations about getting intimate w/ a toaster. that could go either way. I mean, think about it. Lenore is a sophisticated piece of equipment. Does she self clean ? And who does sexbot repairs ? You think Kaylee would tinker w/ ...well, yeah, now that I think about it, she might.... which would give Jayne all manner of great ideas.

Anyway, the whole thing would be moot if Mal says no to the sexbot idea, and we all know, it's Mal's ship.

Yeah, you're probably right. Although I'm not sure either of them would be able to put their objections into words. After all, it was just a machine, not that different than if Jayne lifted one of Mr. U's computers. I don't imagine Mr. U loved his love-bot much more than any of his other equipment. But Mal would probably have found the notion of bringing it on board a bit "creepifying."

hahaha Yeah, I can see that. "Hey Kaylee! This gizmo fell outta Love-bot. D'you think you could fix 'er?" hahaha Of course, Kaylee might just cobble up a boy-whore adapter for love-bot and hump her herself! hahaha After all, Kaylee admits to having sex with other, unspecified, battery operated devices! haha

As far as the other, I doubt that Vera or any of his other guns self-clean. No, like a gun or any other machine, he would have to periodically disassemble and clean her.

Only if they knew about it. With all the repair work happening on the ship between the end of the Reavers and liftoff, Jayne would have plenty of time to go stealing stuff and plenty of time to smuggle it to his cabin. And if he weren't taking advantage of Lenore himself, he'd sure be thinking about how much money he could make selling her at the next big port of call.

She is! She's not human, and being sophisticated equipment, she's worth a lot of money! Knowing what we do about how Janye feels about sex adn money, he'd find a way to get her onboard, and I don't think he'd share.

It would make for one of those "interesting conversations" if he did find Lenore in Jayne's cabin...or if they needed something to trade for ship parts and/or supplies.

Excellent points, greenka61.

Twice Jayne tried to sell River off, so I'm sure he'd not have any problem there. And with Zoe grieving and Mal occupied w/ repairing Serenity, I can see Jayne taking an extra trip, late at night, to secure the 'bot. Assuming she wasn't disassembled and put in the ground ,w/ Mr Universe.

Yeah, it was an interesting idea and it fitted in with the intent to have this segment as a mild comedy along the lines of Badger's World (new "lost" ep of which was also in the Holiday Special - in fact there were 5 different audio drama segments in that show, which I think is a record for us! Were supposed to be 6 but one didn't come together in time :-) Glad you liked it!

Oddly enough, a well-rated movie with a Lenore doll has already been made. It is PG-13 (for some sex-related content). Ninety-nine out of a hundred actors would have (rightly) turned down this role, suspecting it to be a minefield of bad laughs. Here is the review for "Lars and the Real Girl".

By Roger Ebert http://rogerebert.suntimes.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20071018/REV
IEWS/710180304

How do you make a film about a life-sized love doll, ordered through the Internet, into a life-affirming statement of hope? In "Lars and the Real Girl," you do it with faith in human nature, and with a performance by Ryan Gosling that says things that cannot be said. And you surround him with actors who express the instinctive kindness we show to those we love.

Gosling, who has played neo-Nazis and district attorneys, now plays Lars Lindstrom, a painfully shy young man who can barely stand the touch of another human being. He functions in the world and has an office job, but in the evening, he sits alone in a cabin in the back yard of his family home. His mother died years ago, his depressive father more recently. Now the big house is occupied by his brother Gus (Paul Schneider) and pregnant sister-in-law Karin (Emily Mortimer). She makes it her business to invite him to dinner, to share their lives, but he begs off with one lame excuse after another, and sits alone in the dark.

One day a co-worker at the office, surfing Internet porn, shows Lars a life-size vinyl love doll that can be order customized to specifications. A few weeks later, a packing crate is delivered to Lars, and soon his brother and sister-in-law are introduced to the doll. She is, they learn, named Bianca. She is a paraplegic missionary, of Brazilian and Danish blood, and Lars takes her everywhere in a wheelchair. He has an explanation for everything, including why she doesn't talk or eat.

The movie somehow implies without quite saying that, although the doll comes advertised with "orifices," Lars does not use Bianca for sex. No, she is an ideal companion, not least because she can never touch him. With a serenity bordering on the surreal, Lars takes her everywhere, even to church. She is as real as anyone in his life can possibly be, at this point in the development of his social abilities.

Gus is mortified. Karin is more accepting; she believes that, for Lars, any change is progress. They arrange for Lars and Bianca to start seeing Dagmar (Patricia Clarkson), a therapist, who advises them to allow Lars to live with his fantasy. Dagmar "treats" Bianca and confides in Lars. Nothing is said in so many words, but we sense that she thinks Bianca functions the way pets do with some closed-in people: The doll provides unconditional love, no criticism, no questions.

The miracle in the plot is that the people of Lars' community arrive at an unspoken agreement to treat Bianca with the same courtesy that Lars does. This is partly because they have long and sadly watched Lars closing into himself and are moved by his attempt to break free. The film, directed by Craig Gillespie and written by Nancy Oliver ("Six Feet Under"), wisely never goes for even one moment that could be interpreted as smutty or mocking. There are, to be sure, some moments of humor; you can't take a love doll everywhere without inspiring double-takes. And Gus sometimes blurts out the real-world truths we are also thinking.

There are so many ways "Lars and the Real Girl" could have gone wrong that one of the film's fascinations is how adroitly it sidesteps them. Its weapon is absolute sincerity. It is about who Lars is, and how he relates to this substitute for human friendship, and that is all it's about. It has a kind of purity to it. Yes, it's rated PG-13, and that's the correct rating, I believe. It could inspire conversations between children and their parents about masturbation, loneliness, acceptance of unusual people, empathy.

We all know a few people who walk into a socially dangerous situation, size it up, and instantly know what to say and how to set people at ease. My Aunt Martha could do that. She was a truth-teller, and all some situations need is for someone to tell the truth, instead of pussy-footing around embarrassments. Consider, in this film, the neighbor named Mrs. Gruner (Nancy Beatty). She rises to the occasion in a way both tactful and heroic. While Gus is worried about what people will think, Mrs. Gruner (and Karin and Dagmar) are more concerned with what Lars is thinking.

As we watch this process, we glimpse Lars' inner world, one of hurt but also hidden hope. Nine actors out of 10 would have (rightly) turned down this role, suspecting it to be a minefield of bad laughs. Gosling's work here is a study in control of tone. He isn't too morose, too strange, too opaque, too earnest. The word for his behavior, so strange to the world, is serene. He loves his new friend, treats her courteously and expects everyone else to give her the respect he does.

How this all finally works out is deeply satisfying. Only after the movie is over do you realize what a balancing act it was, what risks it took, what rewards it contains. A character says at one point that she has grown to like Bianca. So, heaven help us, have we.

If we can feel that way about a new car, why not about a lonely man's way to escape from sitting alone in the dark?

I thought it was a poignant story. Of course, it was totally unrealistic in that no one, especially friends and family are that open and understanding, let alone one's church! haha No matter how much we would want it so, people are just not that giving.

It's certainly not your typical Hollywood fare. It feels more like a Canadian film. Actually, I think it was shot in Canada.

I heard someplace that you can actually purchase such life-like, umm anatomically correct dolls on line. Of course, my wife probably wouldn't let me get one. hahaha
