I thought I heard something recently about plans afoot to make British students pay more for Uni soon.

Fight it! Keep socialized medicine too! You do NOT want to emulate us on this one.

So nothing from Roxy in a few days, hope she stops by soon!

PS: for anybody within spitting distance of Syracuse, we open our house New Year's Eve to friends and family. Browncoats is basically both!

Thursday morning pre-last-final-exam bump!

Okay.
I give up.

I tinkered with the first lab report and emailed it yesterday morning.

I've gone over each of the other two labs. At least twice.

I have made sure they were double spaced, TimesRoman 12 point.

I have triple checked that they contain each segment listed as required and none that weren't.

I could find nothing other than two typos I missed the first time and a shocking lack of italicization for the term Alu (unless it's not supposed to be italicized in which case I just fucked it up completely).

I have no idea what's wrong with them.
I retitled one just for shits and giggles.
I will be resubmitting them today after I take that other final.
I get whatever grade I get, and as the TA indicated they were going to have a significantly lower grade than if they were correctly formatted it will not be pretty. He made it sound like Doomsday, and since the first lab came back to me with a 40 last time I am willing to agree on that count.

Unless he's just completely broken with reality and the labs are actually just fine the way they are. (The rest of them were and got decent grades, why not these?)
Or he's gotten me confused with someone else this whole time.

I just don't care any more. I will keep telling myself that until the bloodthirsty rage subsides.

"Fuckit" mechanism engaged.

Aargh. Kitchen sink is backed up, underground water pipe must have a leak because the water bill jumped 200.00, and it's been raining since Sunday.

I hear the sound of money being slurped right out the door.

Did get my Serenity ornament, though. Shiny! Has anyone ever messed with one so that they can get the engine to light up?

I celebrated the holiday season by spending $700.00 to fix the surprise broken water main underneath my front yard and almost spending a thousand more to fix the oil rings on my old Saturn. I'm not looking forward to my water bill.

My saint of a mechanic told me that the car would run about another 30,000 miles before the engine needs to be completely rebuilt and that it would cost more than its worth. I'll start looking for a newer used car...no point in spending that money on it.

I really am not looking forward to doing car payments again.

I've decided to get my passport so that this summer I can spend a week somewhere where there are empty tropical beaches and fruity drinks with parasols in them.

It snowed in Las Vegas this morning. The road to work was closed until 10:00 ish.

Other than that, things are great. I have an actual house to fix and money in the savings account to fix it, and the old car still runs, so I'm counting my blessings.

Browncoat Island? Tropical paradise? Where do I sign on? And slide me down a Pina Colada while you're at it.

So last night while I was in Barnes & Noble trying to find extra paperback copies of "The Hunger Games" for book club, there was a guy standing there with a Nikki Heat book in his hand muttering to himself if this really was a Richard Castle book. I told him I'd read them both already, and while they are no Michael Connelly books, they are fun and frothy.

We got to talking (animatedly) over our mutual Nathan crushes, and I convinced him to watch "Firefly" on Netflix. I told him all about the Firefly shoutouts that go on on Castle (he remembered the "space cowboy" costume).

It was so nice to cross paths with someone else out in the dorkosphere who doesn't roll their eyes at me when I'm talking Firefly/Castle/Nathan!

We traded email addies. I hope he actually emails me. I hope he comes to one of our Firefly meetup events.

When do you find out about the house?

(Slides a surprisingly large pina colada down the bar)

Order up!

We're getting ready to go house hunting. I talked with someone yesterday and we're pre-approved for a mortgage. I'm packing up my sewing room since I won't use it for the next six months anyway and I've got the time now. Which is a luxury I won't have in a few months.

On the bright side: we'll be going somewhere which, should it need a large repair, we'll be able to fix without impediment or unnecessary aggravation. Yay!
Beats the hell outta watching the siding fall off and the windows come apart and not being able to do a damned thing about it.

While I'm at it I think I'll have a pina colada too.
(Magics up a large batch of them for anyone wandering by. Then puts a Martini, a mango smoothie, and a perfectly chilled Dew in stasis for applicable recipients should they wander by, and goes to commune with the potted palm.)

Barkeep! A pint of Guinness if you please!

(Feeling traditional tonight.)

I just spent a marathon cocoa/too many cookies/games evening with Boychild after dragging him to two open houses. (Not hunting, not stalking, more casually looking around...)
I also managed to find almost half my sewing room! Maybe I'll find another chunk of it tomorrow!
I should really review some chemistry, but Doctroid brought home a library book that he's not going to get to right away. I should also get out some yarn and start knitting my first attempt at socks, which is a goal of mine for this winter break and there's only about a week left.
Busy day, but good!

Now where's that Guinness...? (Wanders over to stare at the tap until it relinquishes.)

I even wrote down what I did not too long after doing it so there'd be a chance of reproducing it if it turned out well. (GASP!! That's almost a recipe!)

Barkeep, give me whatever. It's been a day!

Early this morning, my dog, in her infinite wisdom, decided to chew up and swallow my disposable razor, which she stole out of the shower. She threw up most of it, but I still had to call work and tell them I would be late because the vet didn't open until 7:00.

Worried most of the day. They took x-rays, and there is still a blade inside of her, but she's been sent home with lots of dense canned dog food to "coat" it as it makes it's way through.
She goes back for another x-ray on Sunday.

On the other hand, I stopped at the Starbucks drive-through after I left her, got up to the window to pay for my coffee, and the car in front of me had paid for it! Someone had paid it forward! That never happens to me!

I took it as being a little bit of good karma sent out from the universe, and so I paid it forward for the person who was behind me. I was happy to do it. Fridays need a bitty bit of caffeinated happiness spread around.

Paige, my dog is now asleep on my bed.

I'm going to a FF viewing party tomorrow night. :)

When I was still teaching 3rd grade, I had a student - a big, tough, limited English student, who picked up one of the Harry Potter books. It was way beyond his abilit (I thought), but hey, he was reading. It took him two months to finish it, but he did, and he passed the online test, too, so I knew he understood it. By the end of the school year he had read all four of the HP books (that was all that had been published) and had turned into an avid reader. His Endlish language skills flourished, and he changed from being kind of a schoolyard tough, to being a really cool kid.

I love Harry Potter. Still have kids reading them, although the Rick Riordan books are a bit "hotter" with the kids now.

I adore the Harry Potter books. I've read each one so many times it's ridiculous.
I got into them after the 3rd book was published. I was watching my goddaughter for a weekend while her parents were out of town ( she was 10 or so) and she was reading the 2nd book. I read her a few chapters then after she went to bed I stayed up and read books 1 and 2, then when her parents got home I went to the store and bought 3. Been reading and re-reading them ever since
