WISHIMAY

Because the Causality Computer- (nicknamed "Cyclops") that was designed and built under the direction of the 61st president (a bio-eengineered octo-racial tri-sexual transsexual named Kiki) sent it from the future for the purpose of stopping the invasion of the Proto-bacterions who have come to this planet looking for oxygen to feed their insatiable brood of zombie-like young-uns- told the Fox execs that they HAD to cancel Firefly otherwise future generations would become so enamoured of it that they would fail to even notice the invasion...so you see...they had to do it...to save the future of humanity!!!

...and that's the truth...in as much as I have been able to ascertain...

Anyone else heard any other theories lately?? Piratenews???Chrisisall?? Anyone??

MWAH!...it's like BWAH!, only slightly sloppier

Sadly- people with less creativity, art appreciation, and smarts than you and me were in positions of power (most likely unearned). They could not cognitively or emotionally understand/process/comprehend Firefly. People of lesser stature who don't understand typically exhibit feelings of jealously, fear or hate. It's an unfortunate outcome of the dark side of human nature, I guess. But it's damn depressing.

I know you all know this - it just feels good to say. Again.

TRAVELER

Actually Firefly had a ten year run, but Peter Bishop went to the future and dicovered that he and Olivia spent all their time watching Firefly and never had kids so Peter returned from the future and erased Firefly from everyones memories so he and Olivia could have kids. He just didn't have enough power after all the time travel to erase the first few episodes. So this what we were left with.

Or you could go with what Scouseratheart said.

Because they didn't think they could make good money off of it.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Plausible...

DREAMTROVE

Bad timing.

Around that time, all of the networks were heavily slashing their budgets. (remember Bonnie Hammer at Sci-fi?) the future of television was looking bleak, and they wanted to try to hook viewers on the cheap with junk like reality TV (this had happened before, remember game shows?)

Well, you can hook millions of morons on just a few bucks with some simple gimmicks if you don't care about ever being remembered for anything ever, and just want to burn your good name for a nice propaganda fest and a few fast bucks.

Anyway, such was the mood when the demons met in the halls of hell to kill off firefly. There is sat, like a fatted calf, eating two million dollars an episode, and bringing in two million viewers. Meanwhile, they knew for less than a tenth the price, they could produce girls in bikinis eating bugs and get twice the viewership, easy.

And such was the fate of firefly sealed.

To Wishway, how about Rupert Murdoch is an S_B.

Yours sounds better though. You should have been a writer for SGU. It would still be on the air if you were. :-)

Dreamtrove: Hooah. But not just Firefly, the conspiracy was to get rid of all space genre, fill the void with meaningless reality TV, rotting our cerbral cortex until we vote the bachelor for president as long as it's Rush Limbaugh, or a clone.

I have even now got Dr. Who programmed in. I am dying of space genre withdrawl and reruns only slightly help the pain.

Can somebody please revolt in LA at Fox and Universal. Can we deport reality show writers to Iraq or Timbuktu. Pleeeeeeeeeeze

DREAMTROVE

All serious sf shows cost a lot of money. Fortunately, there's a lot of old content to watch, shows and movies. I don't imagine the will be any new content, as television will expire. Some day youtubers will create competing content, but not for a while.

Considering how formulaic the content has become, I say, small loss to most of it. I enjoy the new dr. Who, it's catchier than the old, but i find myself going back and forth.

As for deporting reality shows, then we'd all be watching reality shows set in Iraq and Timbuktu. It would be more like outsourcing.
