Just to be nitpicky but I believe it's 12 years.

And yeah it does kinda suck.
I was willing to accept that it would have a retro feel and have gameplay like older shooters (in fact I was looking forward to it as an antidote to all the COD games). And I could accept that they were working off unfinished code from another company so that it wouldn't be as polished as modern games.
But considering how much they 'bigged' up their own game and to deliver this pile of **** was a kick in groin to all DN fans.
I'm so glad I tried the game before buying it.

Very true that it's 15 years since the release of Duke Nukem 3D. I was under the impression that DNF was announced in 1999 so that would make it 12 years from that perspective but even that may be wrong.
However long it's been it wasn't worth the wait. It should have stayed legend and gone to the fabled hall of 'Games That Could Have Been Great'.

Actually I got that point completely, it's actually what I was looking for from the game. I wanted the retro/90's feel to it of blasting away at aliens, moving on to the next scene and blasting away at more aliens. I was looking forward to the quips, one-liners and sense of fun that DN3D had. I was looking forward to it being a nice alternative to the COD games that have basically been carbon copies since the fourth version, and as an alternative to all the other copies of this franchise.
I will say that it does have a sense of fun, the lines are there although they start to get repeated way too soon and way too often. And it is nice to be playing Duke again. I don't mind that it has linear/corridor gameplay, that's how games were then and evem modern games still follow this for large portions of their game time.

My problems are with the actual game itself not what type of game they were aiming for. It has that retro/90's feel but wrapped up in a game that should have been released in the 90's/early 2000's. The graphics are stuck firmly back in the past with harsh polygons and poor texturing covered over sometimes with a splash of modern day effects (the water walls in the hotel looked cool). They look like somewhere in between Half-Life 1 and Half-Life 2. The aiming lag is atrocious at times, animations of aliens dying on the spot (legs sliding out from under them instead of them falling over) are very poor. Shadows from characters are also poor along with the character models themselves.

I understand that they took an old game with its engine and just finished off the game so that it wouldn't suck up any more cash but that's no excuse for them pushing it as a brand new game and saying how excellent it is. I don't believe hype when it comes from the folks behind a project but they went too far with it. They knew what they had so they should have just admitted it and pushed it as a budget game and released it as a budget game. Maybe even throw in the HD version of DN3D as well.

What we got has no excuse. IMO they wanted to make a quick buck and hoped that bigging up the game and the name of Duke Nukem would be enough to sell it. It probably will be as I believe it's number one on some game sales charts but whether it'll stay there long is another thing.
What they should have done is taken the idea and made a fresh, modern looking game that paid homage and took the p*** out of 90's games. Have Duke play out the fact that DN3D is a treasured relic in the way that ageing action movie stars might send themselves up on screen.
