Saw this over at Boing Boing, reminded me of a much talked about solution for bringing Firefly back:

http://boingboing.net/2011/10/12/pioneer-one-crowdfunded-science-ficti
on-tv-series.html

"A drama series with a sci-fi bent, made independently and distributed online. It gained some notoriety for being the first 'TV show' to be distributed through BitTorrent via VODO.net and has thus far been funded entirely by donations from its viewers. If you're looking for breakneck action and glitzy Hollywood polish, you probably won't be into this show. This is truly 'guerrilla television,' kind of a new phenomenon made possible by the web. But there is a story being told here that will reward a viewer who invests in it. 5 full-length episodes have been released, with the finale of the first season to come by December."

Funny, I was going to post this anyway but then I saw the comments about Firefly:
"Btw. How much would it cost to make one episode of Firefly?"

Kind-of apples and oranges, as this is an original property, and wouldn't have the rights issues that Firefly has. Nor would this cost anywhere near what Firefly would.

A better bet might be Netflix. They've just in the last week announced they're reviving Arrested Development, and are in talks to revive Reno 911.

"Goram it kid, let's frak this thing and go home! Engage!"

All true, and I'm not saying this is in anyway likely for FF (I don't see any more Firefly goodness coming our way in either film or tv, not with the original cast at least).
One difference worth noting though: Firefly has a much larger fan base to tap into than an unproven project like Pioneer One, so while costs are higher there are a lot more eager donors out there.
Netflix - I hadn't heard that - I wish them the best, that's pretty impressive.
