I mean it would loose the fun of firefly if they go arounf swearing in English & the BDH's themselves have already said much about Chinese lines in the movie. There is potential for skin shots with Inara, but not necessary in my opinion. I think Joss realizes he has several younger fans who don't need alot of excess adult scenery. Reavers, scary, that's to be expected, lots of action, but not gore. It would be so out of character for Joss if it is "R" I forsee PG-13. Any other thoughts???

I THINK it's already been established that they're aiming for PG-13. I wish I could remember where I read that so I could include a link...

I foresee PG-13, for commerical reasons. I don't have any clue if Joss would like to pepper his dialog with inventive curses, (in English) a la Kevin Smith.

He's never had anything he controlled where he's had the freedom to do that.

I'd guess the Reavers will rely on implication for than gore, cause implication is always scarier. Zoe saying "They'll rape us to death,..." is more frightening than it would be if they showed it.

After seeing the screen cap, I'm wondering if showing the Reaver isn't a big mistake. Oh, course, I'm not convinced that guy's a Reaver.

They guy must be a Reaver, since that scene was preluded by a reaver ship I think, etc and so forth. Dunno. Certainly hope so.

I'd like to think that a Reaver would be scarier if he looked like everyone else, but with dead looking eyes, gaunt faces, a few pericings or slef done tattoos. Cause nothing's scarier than when your enemy looks like you. They are still men, like Book says.

Like to hear some of you are looking out for the younger audiences :) I'm 16, been a buffy fan for about 4 years, am the youngest on my Buffy boards, and I have some younger siblings who enjoy Firefly. I would hope that a pg-13 rating would be good.

Sci-Fi violence, Chines Swearing, and all the silly things the MPAA's reasons for ratings.

It's 12...at least I would think. Maybe wait for someone who is entirely sure, but it matches up.

Yeah, I expect in England it will get a 12A. They seem to be giving every film 12A at the moment just because they are proud of their new rating! I expect when it comes to DVD though it will just be a regular 12. Or I guess depending on the extra material it might warrant a 15?

This is exactly the case. Joss has years of experience of writing pre-watershed TV with pre-watershed content but late, late night intent.

See the censors work in a "tick-box" kind of way. It's not that they don't listen to the words or think anout the ibtent - but you can't rate a film highly that deals with dark issues, you can only go with what's actually on screen.

A writer and director of less talent would need to show blood, guts and swearing to make a scene nasty - Joss can make a much nastier scene showing none of that. Likewise, Joss can do a sexier scene with next to no flesh than most writers or directors could dream of doing with a roomful of naked women. Inara's spongebath is one of the sexiest things I've ever seen and it didn't need nipples to be that!

Besides, censors seem to be getting a little looser anyway. Over here in the UK Spidey 2 was a 12 (PG 13 in the US) and I was, to be frank, pretty shocked and horrified (in a good way) by the Doc Ock in the hospital scene. That was harsh.

Not that I can see it doing a lot of harm if it ends up as a 15 - which is what I'm rooting for. It's not easy to get adults along to a 12 film, especially an action flick, unless it is already a franchise (Spidey, LOTR, etc).

Well call me a sad little king, but I think there's a whole Inara sponge-bathing story arc yet to be discovered. And I have a sneaky suspicion that the secret that Inara is obviously hiding might be found nestled amongst her bosom and I think it's time we explored that.

From a purely personal point I hope it's a 12/A in the UK..otherwise I will have an extremly irate 12 year old on my hands which is not a pretty sight!!

A little OT...what's the difference between '12A' and just '12'?

I agree with you all, I can't imagine it being rated any higher than a 12A (PG-13). Universal are going to want to make the movie as available as possible - especially if they really do see franchise potential.

12 = you have to be 12 and over to come in and annoy people trying to watch the movie

12A = you don't have to be 12 to come in and annoy other people watching the movie, as long as someone over 12(18? I forget) is with you.

Excuse me? Annoy? You're talking to a just-turned 13-year-old, and I don't remember annoying anyone...^_^

Thanks for the info. Yeah, I don't see Joss making anything over PG-13 (or 12A...)

Actually, I put no upper age limit on it and could continue

15 = you have to be over 15 to come in and annoy people

18 = have to be over 18....

Maybe its my local cinema, but far too often you have to put up with morons who either are incapable of watching the film in silence, or bring along an idiot friend who apparently cannot follow the simplest of plots.

Castle had the right idea when he electrified the seats - I just want the controls and the ability to increase the voltage.

Here endeth the lesson...

Hey, this is really weird. I was just going to post this question yesturday. I guessed it would be PG13, but if you know Chinese, it's more like R. Where do you draw the line?

Variable. Closest is 12A, but the BBFC and MPAA have different criteria, so it could be anything from PG to 15.

(This is partly why UK and US prints of the same film have different minor cuts, because one tiny snip to the US print can bring down the UK rating, which usually increases audience.)

12A stands for "12 advisory" or some such thing. It's the same thing as 12, but now parents can take younger children if they choose. Cinema releases are 12A, video releases are still 12.

ROTFLMAO!

Yeah, maybe we need a spin off series to really delve in to the, um... subject matter. After all, if Inara's bosom is concealing secrets, "how will we know unless we question it?"

I expect a PG13 rating, but I would be pleasantly surprised with an R rating.

That would imply Joss is NOT holding back at all, and something in the movie is so bad ass, it had to be R. I'd be excited.

I don't think Joss would toss in extra blood and gore unnecessarily, it would be part of the story and I'd like to see an R rated movie from Joss.

But I'm very happy with a PG-13 Serenity.

Headbutts. British censors don't like headbutts. Star Wars:Attack of the Clones, Spiderman 2 and many others, all cut for...

headbutts.
