If Joss makes three hit Serenity films do you think there's a chance we'd see a big-budget "Fray" movie? I don't know if it's something he's even considered as he hasn't mentioned it, but the only obstacle would be budget, and I'd imagine he'd get whatever he asked for if the FF films are a success. Buffy would never be back on the Big Screen, SMG would be too old, it's been done to death and anyway, the name of "Buffy" puts much of the general public (who see the series as nothing more than Baywatch "with fangs") off. However, a fresh slate with a new character in the future of the Buffyverse doesn't carry that baggage (especially if it's not called Fray: TVS) and it would be perfect for a big damn movie.

Damn right! If anyone's not familiar with Melaka Fray please post a response and I'll post the information on her.

I have yet to read Fray. I heard about it when Joss first told of plans to do it, but not being a big collector of comics I thought I'd wait until it was brougbt out in Graphic Novel form - but I still havent found it

Maybe I could do another check for it, but I'd appreciate a bit more information about the story and if it's actually any good

Another point to add to the Fray movie imagination...

Fray is published by Dark Horse Comics which has made quite a few successful films based on their properties including:

The Mask
Timecop
Hellboy
Alien vs. Predator

A Fray movie doesn't seem all that far-fetched if you ask me. Especially since Joss is heading toward a promising big screen future already with Serenity.

Done and done. Fray: Future Slayer has already been collected in graphic novel form, pub'd by Dark Horse. It's a wickedly good story, with very good to excellent art by Karl Moline. The story is a Joss Whedon story. Need one say more? It's inventive, imaginative, twisty and turny, unpredictable, satisfying and need I say full of Whedonistic sarcasm and humour.

Fray works the dark side, namely petty crime in the future. She's approached by a thing, misunderstandings ensue, teeth are spilled. Throughtout we meet a range of humans and creatures, with many getting interesting backstory. Long story short: Fray ultimately involves a multi-level journey, with betrayal, surprises, a couple of horrible tragedies, and much more.

Littlemanlovesfire: That is an excellent idea, the movie that is. Like you said, it would need a substantial budget to do right. It would be so different from the frothy comic-to-film projects currently ruining the genre right now.

It's definitely available, we've just ordered some more for our public library. Published by Titan, should be available for under £15 (Amazon.co.uk currently does it for £10.49). Or you can pick up the Dark Horse edition if you scout around some.

Mrfoo: try it, you won't regret it. CrevanReaver posted a lengthy spoiler of it on this thread, if you're into that kind of thing:

You beat me to the punch on this one. I’ve just been thinking about this as a prospect for Joss Whedon. I kind of makes sense to turn Fray into a big screen movie considering that there seem to be obstacles in the way of turning Buffy or Angel into a movie and I think Fray would be a very spectacular movie that is also a continuation of the Buffy universe. I'm all for it.
