Apologies if this question has come up before but I couldn't find it on a quick scan of the forum.

I just wanted to know whether there was a second series of Firefly planned after the film is released?

Thanks for your time.

Nathan told attendees at the Fusion con that Fox had stipulated Universal could not do a tv version for a period of time. They are only allowed to make films. Jewel told attendees at another con the period of time set by Fox was ten years.

Joss Whedon has been reported as saying he is not sure whether he wants to bring Firefly back to tv. His current intention is to make a trilogy of films.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

At this time there is no plan for a return to television, at least nothing that the Powers That Be have shared with us.

There is also the matter of Fox still owning the television rights. Nathan & Jewel have been heard at Cons as saying that there is some sort of time restriction clause in the Firefly contract prohibiting it from a TV return. The amount of time is uncertain but seems to be somewhere between 5 & 10 years.

I would not lose hope though. If the movie does well, there is talk of a trilogy of movies. If the movies do well, who knows, there could be a return to TV. Money and ratings make anything possible in Hollywood. If Universal thinks there is money to be made they may send in their legal types to negotiate some sort of settlement w/ Fox for the TV rights.
