CLANDESTINY

Hi, everyone. Clandestiny here again with your semi-regular-update on the September 4 Meetup.

As you recall, last week I threw the forum open to those of us who wanted to suggest a different venue. At the time, I asked for votes on a possible alternate venue, and said that I would make the final decision based on number of votes.

Unfortunately, the venue that has received the most votes thus far (three votes) has been the Peculier Pub, and one of our members, QueenTiye, has stated that she can't attend if the meetup is to be held at a bar.

I'm sure that none of us wants to see any of our buddies excluded because of our choice of venue. And there is also the fact that, at the official Meetup site, the venue is still listed as the Wolf's Bay P.S. Restaurant. If anyone opts to join us who does not regularly read these boards, we want them to be able to find us so that our ranks can swell to millions and we can eventually take over the world. Or at least have better parties.

So, in light of all this, I am declaring the voting for the September 4 meetup null and void, and hereby declare that we'll all meet at the place originally announced: Wolf's Bay P.S. Restaurant 32 West 38th Street, Saturday, September 4 at 2:00 pm.

Now, once we're all there, if we all would prefer to go somewhere else -- either that day or on future days -- we can certainly throw the idea open to everyone.

I have been advised that Meetup.com will soon be changing the rules, giving far more control over venues and venue choices to its members. To that end, I have submitted a request to Meetup.com to become this group's official Coordinator, which would give me the ability to stay in direct contact with all members of the group, and give us all a much greater say in where, when, and how often we meet. I am currently waiting to hear back from Meetup to see if I've been approved for Coordinator status.

Anyway, this is where things stand, and I hope to see everyone at Wolf's Bay real soon. :)

All righty, that'sa way ta take charge, Des! Yeah!

There's nothing that says we have to remain at Wolf's if we don't think it is accomodating enough. Like Clandestiny said, we can always move to a different venue if we all agree.

Looking forward to meeting everyone on Sept. 4!

Thanks for the update!

Now that things are settled, I will post something on the OB about it. Wolf's Bay P.S. Whatever-the-hell-its-called Restaurant won't know what hit 'em! If you need any help with anything, Clandestiny, let me know.

I look forward to seeing all you shiny NYC-area browncoats on the 4th!

Hi everyone. I'm new to this group, relatively new to the show, but I would love a chance to meet up with some local browncoats. So, can I come? Come on, can I?

Kingpause, c'mon and show up! You're not alone, since many of us are going to a Meetup for the first time. I'm sure you'll be able to find the group of crazy Browncoats no problem! Check Clandestiny's top post in this thread and welcome!

What gave you the idea there would be the slightest possibility we'd say no?

Of course you can come. The more the merrier.

We eat. We talk. We eat some more. We talk some more. We eat and talk in varying degrees. And after that, the talking. And then the spanking, and the oral se -- oops, sorry. Had a Monty Python And the Holy Grail moment there for a second.

Really, it's just a buncha folks sittin' around tawkin, getting to know each other, trading lines from FIREFLY, talking about how hot [pick your favorite crewmember] is, plotting world domination... you know, the usual.

Dress code is at the member's discretion, but it's pretty silly to put on your glad rags to sit in a coffee shop.

Just out of curiosity (and to take a peek at the menu), I googled the restaurant and could not find an official site or any reviews, but did find a lot of other groups that have held their meetups at the same place. Looks like some pretty varied and interesting groups have gathered at the tables of Wolf's....

Well, we've been there once already. It's nothing special -- a garden-variety coffee shop/diner with garden-variety coffee shop/diner food. No one seemed to mind it very much.

The only real problem is the booths, which make it hard to seat a lot of people together -- which is why we're almost certainly going to be discussing a new place.
