My ship's name is "Painted Wagon" bonus points for anyone who can say where this is from. :)

I am not worried about the bullet with my name on it. Just the thousands marked "Occupant".

TENTHCREWMEMBER

Could you please just make it stranger? Stranger. Odder. Could be weirder. More bizarre. How about uncanny?

We just started an RPG, and the player who plays the Captain, Jason Drake, named his ship The Argos and intentionally not Argous, as is historically accurate, because 500 years is a long time for information to be corrupted. So I am running a game with Jason and the Argoastronauts...LOL!

Now, me, I'd name my ship Fusion Wake and put a space-age flame job on it! Kidding! Though that sounds kinda cool, actually, I really think I'd just call it Murphy's Law because I am sure it would apply ALL THE FREAKIN' TIME!!!

Since ships are usually called girls names I'd have to call it Jayne.

In the Firefly 'verse I'd name my ship "Hotaru" (which is Japanese for firefly.) and I'd naame my car Serenity. 'Cause I'm totally get a Firefly.

Jayne: Are you saying River's a witch?
Wash: Yes, Jayne, she's a witch. She's had congress with the Beast.
Jayne: She's in Congress?
Wash: How did your brain even learn human speech?

How many points would I get if I could still sing one of the songs? And are these points exchangeable for goods and services?

As for my ship: "The Skyclad"

*** *** ***
The woods are the only place where I can see a clear path.

Well, my first car was a VW Rabbit named Helmut, the next car I named was a Honda Civic called Seamus McFalconrider (Seamus Mc for the Irish-Scots sound of it, Falcon for the Millienium Falcon, and rider for the Wolfriders), and the car I have now is Jack Gamgee Dawkins -- Jack Dawkins is the Artful Dodger, and Gamgee cause if a car has a personality, wouldn't you want it to be Sam's? :)
Yeah, all my cars are boys, too.

A spaceship I would called Skywise -- just Skywise.
A sailing ship....hmmm, I dunno. The Rohirric Nurse, maybe. Hellooooooo, Rohirric nurse!

I am a geek on so many levels...

Is it time for a rousing chorus of "They Call the Wind Inara"?

SIKKUKUT

My car, a gorgeous but increasingly cantankerous fire-engine red 1990 Dodge Daytona, has only recently earned a name. Despite the fact that I adore the idea of naming vehicles, nothing ever seemed appropriate... This summer, however, it came to be called "The Mobile Queen," because it serves as the sole transport and portable lighting setup for my film company, Mobled Queen Entertainment, which in turn is named after a quote from Hamlet, so that the top of our main page can quote William Shakespeare as saying "Mobled Queen is good."

In the Firefly RP I'm running, the captain named his ship the Bao Chou, which he tells me is Chinese for "vengeance." I trusted him and didn't actually verify it, so I hope I've not just publicly made a fool of myself.

If I myself had a ship, I'd have to sit down for hours with a scratch pad to choose a name. Virtues, sci-fi references (Phoenix, Equinox, Lying Bastard, and the already-mentioned Long Shot, among many others), historical references, things that just sound cool (always wanted to name a ship "Lotus")... the possibilities boggle the mind.

In the Firefly 'verse, I'd call it Fortune, 'cause that's what every captain hopes for.

It would depend on a couple of factors. If it were a large ship, a la Star Destroyer-sized, I'd say Eclipse. If it were a mid-sized ship, a living space, possibly Endymion (Dan Simmons fans, unite!). If it were small, a dogfighter, I'd call it the Raven.
These are all assuming these are ships fully equipped with weaponry. A transport would be called Gatekeeper.

We can't all be heroes, since some of us have to sit at the curb and clap as they go by.

oo, my curiosity is sparked now. what's das simmons? i like the endymion story, so i'm curious to see how it got used in a pop culture kind of thing.

hmm, so what would i name my ship?

Vegdis - it's the name of a river in norse mythology. it means "knower of the way," which is the total opposite of what i believe, so ofcourse i was immediately fascinated by it. it's the inspiration for and the name of a character in the fantasy world i'm creating.

Melvana - as a reference to Rumi

Majnun - as a reference to the story of Layla and Majnun.

Dan Simmons wrote the following books:
Hyperion
The Fall of Hyperion
Endymion
Blade Runner 2
And a few others. He uses John Keats poetry, and many others, throughout the sci-fi/horror series of Hyperion (which is the name of a Keats poem). He uses seven intricate characters, each giving differently styled narratives throughout the story. There's a poet, a scholar, a soldier, a diplomat, a detective, a captain, and a. . .it's been too long, but I remember there was a seventh.

We can't all be heroes, since some of us have to sit at the curb and clap as they go by.
