The premiere was held last night. Full reviews are embargoed until May 2nd (though that'll likely change, as the film opens internationally a week before that), but viewers were invited to post quick reactions on twitter - and the reaction was good:

Some samples:

Peter Sciretta
@slashfilm: The Avengers is pretty epic. There is probably more action in this film's climax than all the other Marvel movie combines!

Germain Lussier
@GermainLussier: I'd tweet about The Avengers but my body is still recovering from non-stop geeking out. So, so, so much fun (for the most part). Literally still getting goosebumps writing about The Avengers. So many chill scenes. Problems for sure but they're overshadowed by the good.

Devin Faraci
@devincf: AVENGERS is good enough to make me forgive IRON MAN 2.

Chris Hardwick
?@nerdist: GAHHHHH!!!! Avengers was delightful kick-assery with whipped fun on top!!! Well done Joss et al!

Seth Green
?@SethGreen: So that was AMAZING. Like, double plus awesome. Thank you Joss Whedon for giving us all the #Avengers movie we deserve.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

I saw Seth Green's tweet about the Avengers film. Got to say I am pretty excited for it to hit theatres. Plan on seeing it opening weekend.

TENTHCREWMEMBER

Could you please just make it stranger? Stranger. Odder. Could be weirder. More bizarre. How about uncanny?

I am so there for the opening night. Don't rightly care how far I have to go for a midnight showing, but I'm fair certain this will be the best. superhero. movie. ever. Of all time!

(Right behind Serenity that is *wink*)

Who the heck is that one guy who said "meh?"

It's like there's jubilation and some dude is standing there in the background looking bored and buffing his manicured fingernails. He is wearing a scowl, complete disdain; less importantly he's wearing jeans and sneakers and an unzipped hoodie over yet another shirt, possibly with a SCARF even though it's not cold out.

Nothing is going to appeal to everyone. And there is definitely a portion of the viewing audience that has zero interest in superhero films, or like the genre, but won't care for this one. No film is universally loved - and even the good notices for Avengers tend to say the film does have problems.

"Goram it kid, let's frak this thing and go home! Engage!"

I know, but it still kind of stands out when it seems like everyone else who went is lauding it as a really good time.
