I saw it several years ago and I think I have them to blame for my fixation with really bad news, well partially...I always was a little warped

I think the "dumb crooks" stories are just as fascinating... http://www.clumsycrooks.com/

Heard one on the radio a while back about a guy watched this other guy try to siphon gas out of a motor home, only he put the hose down the "blackwater hold tank" instead, and then you know how you usually have to suck start the siphon.......

Ahh, 'tis a warped little planet we're on

2003 Darwin Award:
Three robbers invaded a Madrid brothel armed with real guns
loaded with blanks. Police came; robbers opened fire with
blanks. Cops shot 2 of them dead, wounded the 3rd.

Certainly not my favorite Darwin award.

When I first ran across the news that Grizzly Man (experienced
outdoorsman, amateur naturalist & film maker) had died in the
jaws of a bear and his girl friend, too ... I ignored it in spite of my
morbid curiosity. I knew that my OCD would kick in, I'd need
to learn the whole story, & I'd be depressed about it. So, until
yesterday, I chose not to know about Timothy Dexter Treadwell.

He had lived with the bears for 13 summers. From the start, he
violated National Park rules.
I read a comment, "Mother Nature threw him a curve ball."
My antenna went up, "No. I doubt that!" Thus I finally read the
story ... and am paying the consequence for my curiosity.

He strikes me as a child, someone very unrealistic even as he
predicted his eventual death. Did the bears see him as someone's
stray cub?

My antenna-instinct-assumption was always, "He made a mistake
& he should have known better from his experience." After I read
about it, what happened, his timing, I knew: "OK. He was going
for the Darwin Award! He was. And I feel he truly deserved it."

My anger says, "Why'd you have to take Amie with you?"
Guess he was lonely, wanted company in the Afterlife.

There's one odd death that's always fascinated me.

http://jalopnik.com/5577768/florida-woman-killed-by-flying-porta+potty

And not 'cuz it's somewhat horrifically funny, but because I just have this thought that the woman woke up that morning and went about her day and wouldn't have ever have guessed she would die by flying porta potty. I mean her last thought(if it were me) shoulda been "Oh, NOW my whole life makes sense" and then the Improbability Drive from Hitchhikers Guide would whisk me away to another planet where things always made sense...

Can you imagine the FUNERAL?? I would be terrified I would break out in maniacal laughter and they would take me away to the funny farm...

I gotta say, every time I see Porta Potties on a truck I move around them a whole lot quicker now...

^ A sly smirk followed by maniacal laughter ought to be the current
fashion, I should think. Otoh, I dunno who they're putting into the
loony bins these days. Not at all sure what's Legal or Sane in the USA.

Death from Stubbing One's Toe

Famous Tennessee whiskey distiller Jack Daniel decided to come
in to work early one morning in 1911. He wanted to open his safe
but couldn't remember the combination. In anger, Daniel kicked
the safe and injured his toe, which later developed an infection
that killed him!

Moral of the story? Don't go to work early.

Good reply. This was the most recent Darwin Award thread I could find, prior was 2005. Should we start a new one?

Most recent thread on Fireflyfans or elsewhere? And if you want to start a new one, go ahead, but what's wrong with continuing this one?

Just 'cause I started a post don't mean you can't take it over if'n you like. Starting new threads around here in the summer is hard sometimes...

I try to avoid hijakking or troll-diverting or the illusion of whenever possible.
Your OP didn't specify Darwin Awards and I didn't want to detract. Also finding this subject under a title of different words can be more difficult.

But I don't mind continuing here until it gets too big or somebody jumps to another thread.
I don't need to stat a new thread just for the goal of having another thread created.
