I enjoyed the first time we saw Niska but this time he really was unforgetable. His whole delivery and how he carries himself really is scary. He deliberately kept Mal and Wash together I feel so they would help each other emotionaly and keep them alive longer. I truly saw and felt an evil character.

If he was this upset that people had heard of how Mal ended the Train Job how upset do you think he is now? People are gonna hear about this.

Why didn't anyone manage to kill him? He must of used an escape pod or something during the final fight, but I think mainly so we can see him again.

Also, I was wondering if they maybe got back any of the money when they stormed the place. Most likely not as it was either secured or Niska took it with him.

All in all though, another excellent acting job. How does this show seem to do it? He was definetly a character that could give you nightmares.

KURUKAMI

I didn't, but then again I got twitchy and had bad dreams after I first saw "Reservoir Dogs". So one might say I've been inoculated to the sight of ear amputation.

The violence was disquieting, yes... but it served the purpose of the plotline and helped to illustrate just how f*cked up Niska really is. Not to mention illuminating a couple more burning questions about Book....

History doesn't always repeat itself. Sometimes it merely shouts "Weren't you listening the first time?!?" and lets fly with a club.

Kurukami, aside from having a GREAT signature, makes some great points.

Not having any replay functionality...i'm wondering if Niska's accent is German or Russian...for modern American audiences, this is a great trick to imply evil (no offense to Germans or Russians)bringing up stereotypes of evil doctors and calm sadists...Any thoughts?

I always watch with the subtitles and actually when he is talking to his torturer he is speaking in czech. Maybe a distant relative of Milosovec's?

Thanks for this info! Very interesting, and I wasn't too far off the mark...Czech and Russian are both Slavic.
Niska is very Mengele-esque...I'm very interested in how accents are perceived socially. (I have my own to deal with, East Texas Backwater, to be exact. Generally perceived as DUMB.)

You're saying the captions called it "Czech"? Captions also called the Latin in The Thirteenth Warrior "Greek".

As for having nightmares after watching movies: if you're prone to that, don't EVER watch Mariah Carey's Glitter.

I'm not 100% sure now I guess, but likely sure(God, this show makes you speak western slang!).

My father came off the boat from Hungary and my parents took me to visit Europe quite a few times when I was younger. I've been around a lot of different people and even without the captions I was thinking Czechoslovakian from the git.

But alas, yes, it was the captions that said "speaking Czech". Unfortunately I have to watch with captions or I would most likely miss out on half the show.

BULBUS

I was taken completely by surprise with the ear thing. When he stopped her and said, "This is too much,"

and for a moment, I thought, "oh, he's going to let Mal go as well."

I know, stupid me, but I never saw the Train Job so I didn't have an inkling of just how evil he was.

That is why you generally torture prisoners seperatly. I wonder what he made of the good Captain and Wash's argument and if that influenced his decision to keep the two together, when normally you separate them so they can't make a plan. Had they not been arguing, there could have been trouble. Letting people into your spacestation and letting them walk out with an incentive to come back, however, is just stupid.
