Wondering if any other Browncoats will be attending AWA Sept 24-26 @ the Cobb Galleria.

I'll be there devoting part of my space at the Artist's Alley to promote Firefly & Serenity.

I haven't looked, but do you have a link for more info on the show? I would be interested in going, but I would like more info first.

Good luck at the show regardless!

I'll be there on Saturday. I have a hotel room but not enough people to make it cost effective to stay rather than drive over from Athens.

oh and the web site is www.awa-con.com

Is that a call for a roomie? Cause my current plan is to take couch space from some buds who live a couple miles away.

America loves a winner!

1st I've heard of it, but glad you called my attention to it. And really glad you're taking time to spread the good word about the BDM too! Might make a go of it, i'll have to check my ever so busy social schedule.

Why are you laughing? No, really..why?

AWA is definately a good way to spend a weekend. While its not the all-out bash that is Dragon-Con (and who doesn't love that), its more a 'casual hanging out with friends' atmosphere. The smoothest run purely fan operated cons I've ever attended....and one of the cheapest.

Definately show up Friday night for "Anime Hell" at midnight for the some of the most bizzare and hilarious FanDubs (FanBoy Bebop has got to be the best).

As for spreading the good word, always a joy creating new converts.

I wanted to tell everyone what a great job techiecl is doing, promoting Firefly and Serenity at Anime Weekend Atlanta. His spot in Artist's Alley is in a high-traffic area, and when I stopped by he had three or four potential Browncoats listening to his pitch.

I saw JessicaRabbit a couple of times, but not any other Browncoats I recognize. I did see a pair of Old West costumes from a distance, that didn't appear to be from any anime with which I'm familiar.

All in all, though, not a bad showing for a con that relates to Firefly only tangentially at best.

sadly I missed out. No money, so decided not to bother. Maybe my prereg can be transfered to next year. Glad to hear it went well.

Before my con report

Plutomoment, yes you can transfer your pre-reg, I recall seeing information about that on the AWA website.

Michizure, thanks for the phraise.

Now the actual report,

Thought this wouldn't be my first AWA, this was the first one I had trepidation going to. I remember in the early days of Firefly the scorn about it as being a rip-off of "Outlaw Star" and "Cowboy Bebop". I steeled myself and readied arguments to counter there claims....I'm glad it was all for nought.

AWA remained, to me, one of the friendliest and open cons. I was greeted by nothing more than courtesy and politeness by people coming by to see what was up with my table. The turnout was wonderful, I easily spoke to over 100 people interested in Firefly who were exposed to the buzz but never saw the series. Hopefully I made them all intrigued.

Many groups that came by my table had one or two friends who saw the series and used me to help them to convince there friends to see it. I also met several dozen Firefly fans who were completely unware of "Serenity". Most of those folks shook my hand and said I made there day. One of the most interesting encounters I had was with a women from the UK that was a huge fan and took some of my flyers to distrubute among the Browncoat Community "across the pond" and spread the word there.

The flyers were a hit, especially the Jayne: Serenity is Coming Flyer, the Southpark ones, and the Kaylee postcards. I actually had a Jewel Staite fan, who was unfamilar with Firefly, snatch one and practically drool all over it before vowing to watch all of Firefly.

As a last minute action before I arrived to AWA, I bought a copy of the box set to offer as a raffle.
Approximently 100 people entered both fans wanting to support the fan effort to promote "Serenity" and those who never saw it but wanted the set. (all proceeds after the cost of the box set will be going to the South Eastern Browncoats, the group that did the table at Dragon-con and Supplied me with my materials). The box set ended up going to a Fan, if I recall correctly, that was curious about the series but never watched it.

Following the tradition of signs at Anime Con (i.e. Will Glomp For Food, or Free Hugs with Art) I posted a "Will Singing Hero Canton for Donations" . I ended up standing on my chair and singing the complete version of the song twice at AWA, much to many con goers shagrin

Much thanks to all my buds that showed up to let me take breaks from the table. I had a blast promoting Firefly (as well as taking time to actually sell anime style art in the Artist Alley along with AWA's other events).

As soon as I find myself some webspace and time I'll post some of the pics I took.
