Interesting mix of firearms too!
Is this for a fanfilm?

Wow, that is AWESOME, I did not think such a thing existed, thank you so much! I put it in my fav list so I can direct others to it in the future...
PS, where did they find Kaylee's sister at for Mosquito?

Seems there is just about every flavor of fan made, and I think they had more fun making them than anything...

Does this kinda thing go on for other fandoms alot?? I mean this involved??

Thanks. I did my own lighting, though I have a very hard working group of helpers with gaff and grip issues. one big problem is power distribution when in the wilderness.

No Army base. Being a micro budget Fan film, we borrowed the tanks, APCs, artillery guns, small arms, but we had to pay for the actual pyrotechnical explosions. Since it is a fan film, all the people helping are fans and donated their time. Even for the explosions, all I paid for was materials.

Yes, it is a micro budget fan film being shot by Browncoats in Northern California. If you were wondering what many Browncoats in California were doing in the last three months, well this is it :)

The mix of firearms was intentional (partly) the rest of the choices were that some of the firearms were having jamming problems (we had some weird weather where it was windy and then died down, we were about 20 minutes from the beach and dust, dirt and tree branches were landing in the gun actions). Some of the initial guns had to be retired back to the prop truck and others were issued to the actors, because those ones were not jamming with the blanks. Unlike live fire, blanks are notorious for jamming. All in all, over 50 different firearms were issued to the various armies so far.

Did you notice the Flak38 AA gun? Yep, same one mounted on Serenity back in 2005. Had to clean it up, though, it had been sitting for years.. :)

That's the actual prop gun? Shiny!

Please keep us up to date on your progress!
Finally seeing Bellflower has gotten my interest in fanfilms back up. And I always enjoyed the War sequences in the show.

Good luck with everything!

Being that Bellflower is Australian and Into the Black is Canadian and they've gotten a lot of positive press in their local media, I figured, what the heck are AMERICAN browncoats doing now? Someone's gotta represent us in 2013 when I expect these guys to release :D

Thanks for the support!

2013 is looking to be a good year for Firefly Fan Films!
I was happy to see Bell starting to release, and now they will have company.

I updated my Firefly Fan Film Round up to include Independence War

http://fireflydvd.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=37708#37708

It is on the second page.
Everything so far is looking fantastic.
As others have noted, great night photography, ambitious production values, 'splosions; Oh Boy!

I find myself wondering how big the crew is?
I've read of small budget Civil War productions having their actors play one side, change uniforms, go to the other side of the field and then be the other side. Hey, ya do what ya gotta do.

This is debuting as a very ambitious undertaking.
I certainly wish all involved much luck to go with the hard work to see it completed.

Mike
change uniforms

Thanks! We did our test footage with XF305 and 5D MK IIs and the MK IIIs but the main body of the work is Red EPIC. :)

Funny you say that. My first draft was crammed with all sorts of Chinese cursing. hahahahaha. It helps that I have cast who are fluent in Chinese and they pointed out the flaws in even the canon Firefly Chinese cursing. So I cut way back on the cursing because it was just too much. Yes you are so right. Cramming it in seems cute when one is writing the script, but too much is cringe inducing in the final product. I will be preparing tasty tidbits soon. :)

The crew started out really small. As word got out, it got bigger. I now have a crew of nineteen not including my post production team of ten or so. Everyone has a day job though, and they're not getting paid so it varies as to when people are available. You all know that drill by now ... :D

We've done that, but mostly for stunts. I like using people who know how to do stunts for explosions, hits, falls, etc. Since we are still filming, I don't like to predict what the total final count of cast will be (including extras), but I can comfortably see (including the city scenes) over 100 costumed persons on screen at one time or another. :)

That's a peck o' people
(and they peck pretty hard around here; oops wrong story).
I know fans really enjoyed the chance to serve as extras in Browncoats: Redemption.
Do you think you'll be needing local Browncoats to fill out the ranks a little?

And for things like that, or just updates in general or other news,
were ya'll considering a website?

Keep Flyin'
Mike

Working on a website and other items (facebook, twitter, etc.) but I have a staff for that. The one problem with having multiple volunteers is that there are those 'lost days' where people's personal schedules keep them out of the loop with one another. You all know that phenomenon. It's almost like a 'relationship', it takes LOTS of work and patience with others .... LOL....

Thanks!!! We're on a rain day hiatus now... but we'll continue filming (at least if weather permits) The rains made the dirt roads to the locations impassable, even to tracked or four wheel drive vehicles. Keep everyone posted.

Until then... Here are some more pics from production.....

------------------------

Sgt. Maura Santee barks out orders to 'prepare for an Alliance offensive' at the Browncoat trenches. Here you can see the scale of our trenches and defensive positions.

Another Browncoat ambush team waits for more Alliance troopers to fall into their trap. The Alliance ARMORED attack was thwarted by Browncoat Rocket fire. You can see one of the explosions taking out a 'roller'. The tracks here had a "dozer blade' attached to the front but the Browncoats hit the vehicles in their 'exposed soft spots'.....

Browncoat squad rushed a gun position during their counter offensive This is a 40mm BOFORS AA gun by the way ;) And yes, it was incredibly heavy. Most of these artillery pieces took a tracked vehicle like a bulldozer to tow and put into place on the set. :)
